I have just read an article from ex France and lyon goalkeeper Gregory Coupet on how his greatest experience as a footballer was playing us at Celtic Park in the CL back in 04 I think it was.
So it got me thinking, of my 20 or so visits to Celtic park, most of which were European nights, this night against Lyon sticks with me as the best atmosphere I have experienced at Paradise. Sutton and the late Liam Miller with the goals that night in a 2-0 win. Larsson was outstanding as usual.
Coming from Derry and moving to New Zealand at 23 I haven't got to anywhere near as many matches as I would have liked. So im just wondering what everyones opinions are in terms of greatest atmospheres ever experienced at Celtic Park?

Always think about the game against fc tirol when i was 12. Maybe not the best atmosphere i've been at but from memory the game was bonkers, through one minute then looking like we were going out the next. Huge sense of relief when it was over.
The Barcelona 125 game was good, also remember seeing the speakers rocking from the roof in the 3 nill game against Rangers, around March time i think. Lenny was manager and hooper scored a couple.

I liked a St. Patrick’s Day victory against Rangers in the old Celtic Park in the early 1990’s when Celtic won a Scottish Cup tie 2-0.
We also won the league match 3-0 the following week.
Another match that sticks in my mind was a 2-0 New Year victory against Rangers in 1988 because it was a Centenary celebration.
I was in the Main Stand for all 3 matches but it was amazing watching the old terracing in the jungle and the Celtic End bouncing.

Hartson scored the only goal when we beat Hearts to win the League, Beat Barcelona 1-0 Alan Thompson scored, Beat Rangers 1-0 in a SC qtr final Larsson scored and away from Parkhead was the 3-1 win at Rugby Park when Di Canio came off the bench to equalise, Cadete and Thom scored. Thought we were immense second half. Also the 6-0 win against Killie at home that season aswell. There's been a few!

I'm going to be a bit controversial here and say that the best atmospheres I have ever heard were at the old Celtic Park with the Jungle etc. I've been to a few in the new stadium and although, I accept, that the overall atmosphere is special, you could hear clearly what someone a couple of rows away was saying. In the old stadium you couldn't hear yourself think.
Best games I experienced for atmosphere were against Red Star (1968) , Basle (1974) and for all the wrong reasons Atletico Madrid (1974) .

Juventus 4-3 game plus Partizan 5-4 games were both brilliant atmospheres.

Stengo must agree with you about the atmosphere in the jungle at the Red Star game. If memory serves me right Jock Stein told Jinky that if we had a decent lead going into 2nd leg he would not have to travel due to his fear of flying and in my opinion Johnstone had one of the best games ever in the hoops. Another night that will remain with me is when the team came back from Lisbon. The noise and atmosphere were unbelievable. So many memories from the Jungle.

Celtic54 it was funny that game. JS with mind games told Jinky that to stop him from flying to Yugoslavia he had to ensure that Celtic won by so many goals. As you said it was his best ever game in the green and white and he scored two of the five and assisted in the other three. After the match Big Jock took Jinky aside and said to him that he had to go to Belgrade to let them see how special he was. Jinky told the big man to FRO - he wasn't going, period and he didn't go. Big Jock suggested that he travel by boat but JJ said that he wouldn't be able to find oars big enough.

It’s almost impossible to differentiate between games we saw in our teens and maybe earlier, compared to games we have seen in recent years as matured adults . The exciting games seen through youthful eyes and youthful experiences often improve with passing times . Similarly games that were a hard watch back in those days often are even worse when we look back or completely forgotten.

The Valencia game when it went to extra time, possibly the loudest I've ever heard a crowd as extra time started.
