With Newco thinking (deluded) they will spend spend spend now is the time for our board to be truly ambitious. Spending big doesn't guarantee anything (Trusty, Idah, Lager recent examples of performance not matching outlay) but we need an injection of quality, pace and dig across the team. We are soft and can get bullied far too easily. Don't know how many players we need, but with Jota and Hatate out/ playing catch-up probably around 5 players. A young and pacey CF is a must. Should be an interesting cpl of months and will tell the manager, and us, if the board are going to support him.

Am a big fan of Idah and I am happy with how his season has went, Trusty is a no for me not fast or hard enough for me, my priority is a hard as nails Cb who is commanding who a don’t know ?‍♂️.

Idah won us the League and Sottish Cup with his goals!

The Board hasn’t got the final say as to whom we sign . BR has managed to get himself the final say whether we sign a particular player or not .
World wide football haven’t an agreement on whether manager has final say or whether it should be Director of football or Head of Football Organisation .

There is an argument that Manager lives or dies by results on pitch, hence he should have final say as players either brings him success or failure . . The other argument is that manager’s come and go and so cannot be trusted to build for long term . Director of Football is normally long term and thus is likely to plan long term. The problem we have is if a Director of Football is thought to do very well he. will be head hunted by the very cash rich EPL teams.

@ Troy Colour : I think your in the minority on Idah - £9m he needs to producing a lot more than he has.
We need 20 goals / assists a season from our CF.
I think this will be a defining season for him and if he’s not scored a few by the Jan window he could be sold.

{Ed007's Note - I think you're in the minority on Idah, 20 goals a season from a guy who was our back up is fine by most people who aren't hung up on a fee, I don't want my CF having any assists, I want a CF that'll put the ball in the net, that's his job. By this time next year Adam Idah will have scored more than 50 goals for Celtic.}
How much do you think a striker that can score 20 goals & give you 20 assists as well would cost? Only 2 players in Europe had more than 20 assists in the season just finished, Maxime Lestienne & Xherdan Shaqiri and both of them are wingers.}

The big man just needs better service, it was non existent in the cup final with Rodgers boring backwards, sideways, backwards, sideways dross, get the ball into the box and big Idah will score a barrow load of goals for us, great finisher too, which will improve more with decent game time.

{Ed007's Note - I have consistently said that Idah was a better out & out striker than Kyogo, he has that natural poachers ability to sniff out and get on the end of chances like your LG's or Gary Hooper, the sharpness in front of goal will come with more consistent game time & confidence but also as you say he needs proper service, get balls into the box, get wingers hitting the byline and crossing it into the danger area and let Idah attacj the ball in and around the goal. The lad's a unit so let's use that instead of getting out to the wing turning back or inside and the ball ending up back with CCV.
Far too many fans are quite happy to run players down and no matter what happens nothing will change their mind for fear of admitting they're wrong, because of their price tags Idah & Engels will always have their detractors whereas Trusty gets a bye so they can slag Liam Scales...
Look at our recruitment, good, bad or indifferent - look at the money and success Celtic have had in the transfer market and not once have we found a left back better than Greg Taylor...

The squad definitely needs some upgrading. And hearing Rodgers comments that some of our best players may be sold in the summer, then even more work will be needed from our slow moving board. I'd say a new LCB, CAM, RW and CF is required. Also need cover for KT at LB. Will Rodgers rely on Forrest or Yang to provide cover before Jota returns after a lengthy injury? Personally I'd rather we loaned Yang out for a season for regular games as there is a player there. On some of the players leaving, who could he be referring too?

I think it's imperative we get Taylor on a new deal.

31 May 2025 21:24:37
Idah, is a good old fashioned, hard working £2million striker.

@troy colour good shout. The boy is brutal. Folk saying he won us the Scottish Cup. Definitely didn't win us it this season. Was that bad he didn't even feature in the highlight package ???.

If Taylor really wants to go, Celtic have to let him go . I have been proud to support Taylor since he joined us, but no man is irreplaceable and we shouldn’t keep Taylor against his wishes. Is he not confident that he will get enough game time with Tierney back, then why shoul we have confidence. At the moment we have a striker and a half. Idah is full time striker in that is his position all the time he plays.

Maeda is half a striker as he is equally adept and is certainly needed playing as a winger . Is it co - incidental that out two ROI players, Idah and Scales are the most criticised player at Celtic Pk just now. I cannot argue with Aindoh’s valuation of Idah’s ability, as I always thought that a club who isn't short of a couple of £’s shouldn’t shy away from price of a player who they want, especially if he can contribute £20 goals playing less than half time available . The valuation of a player is best left to those who are professional and have experience and know how.

I really feel Roger’s doesn’t play to a striker’s capabilities, yes our wingers and midfielders make up with plenty of goals but our style really leaves a striker isolated at times, this I think feeds into the anti idah things we hear, we saw just before kyogo left that when used wide he seemed more in game and for some a better player, idah for me needs a better balance of our overlapping defenders getting to by line and delivering a good cross over the wide players constantly coming inside and the ball switching across pitch 20 yards from goal, in kt (when fit don’t shoot me Ed for mentioning him ) we know we have one of the best crossers in the game, hopefully idah or a new cf can get on end of some of these .
