Was at the game tonight and as mentioned first half poor, second half much better. Good to see CCV back first and foremost, few other players did well. Scales was solid enough but I reckon he is a squad player at best.

Our midfield is weak and there is no drive or strength there, we are crying out for a comative, driving force midfielder, who can actually tackle. CCV also needs moved on, I just don't see the class defender a lot of people say he is.
1.) 16 Mar 2025 16:51:24
CCV is still a good defender and Celtic should be looking at a similar Quality or better left sided defender to partner him next season.
2.) 16 Mar 2025 16:58:18
If we are to improve we need someone to replace ccv. Otherwise we are just standing still and appeasing the fans that are happy to be just ahead of sevco.
3.) 18 Mar 2025 18:35:28
Jury must be out on CCV, he is superb defender when he isn’t directly marking a direct opponent . However he misses too many games through injuries and when like Sunday he has a big striker to handle He was nervous enough on Sunday certainly wasn’t able to inspire or show others how to do job .
When we had Scales and Taylor playing on our left some thought they were weak. and concentrated on that side . I never conceded that there was a weakness, maybe awkwardness and a bit slow, but neither conceded much . Now when left side is supposed to be stronger opponents are coming down opposite side and weaknesses are apparent with CCV and Johnston.

I think losing Kyogo was a blow, but honestly the day Maeda leaves us, I will be distraught. The guy just never stops.
1.) 09 Feb 2025 18:58:33
Madeda is on fire, urgently need to extend his contract. Best I’ve seen since Larson.
2.) 09 Feb 2025 19:08:45
His awareness in the box, his speed of movement is unbelievable. I think he will enjoy his new role.
It may be the case the Japan national Manager knows more than he rest of us.
Just a pity he misses the next match as our forward pace on the break would cause them a lot of problems.
3.) 09 Feb 2025 19:27:08
Hes contracted until summer 2027 by that time he will only be running at 70mph so probably time to cash in then ?.
02 Feb 2025 00:41:53
The January transfer window has always been a tough window to sign anyone in, clubs are reluctant to let players leave and if they do, they want an inflated transfer fee.
I think it looks more likely that a striker will come in on loan until the summer, then we look again then to sign someone then.
Not overly impressed with the scouting set up so far, there must be several decent strikers out there between 7 -10 million, surely they must have identified a few targets.
I will keep the faith that there will be positive news on the transfer front before the window shuts.
1.) 02 Feb 2025 09:33:01
February's schedule looks to be another packed fixture list and we need to have the squad re-enforced to cover the weaknesses or all the good work done in the first half of the season comes under pressure.
2.) 02 Feb 2025 11:38:39
We had no problem flogging our top striker for a knock down price.
There is deals to be had if you look in the right places.
3.) 02 Feb 2025 12:22:52
I don't care if it is difficult and I am sure many of our fans won't either.
If you sell your top striker in the middle of a season and you knew about it 6 months ago, you had better get a good replacement in or there will be hell to pay from the fans and the manager.
4.) 02 Feb 2025 12:49:53
Clubs are reluctant to let players leave?, unless it's us, never seen any club shove a player out the door as fast as Celtic did with Kyogo .
5.) 03 Feb 2025 18:10:58
Derry Tim, normally you post very sensible posts, that illustrates a good understanding of game, but the idea of us flogging a striker for a knock down price is certainly a blip in your fine contributions .
Board nor Manager could hold on to striker who changed his agent in summer to a selling agent who first of all had Man City buying him and then he dictated the Rennes deal . For Celtic to get £10m for a striker who missed four times what he score this season was magnificent . He was referred to as 1 in 5 earlier .
His first game for Rennes didn’t bring fans to their feet, he had a record least touches of ball in his debut, for any player playing more than 60 mins.

I think both our strikers are bang average. Kyogo misses far too many chances and Idah is off the pace and probably needs a consistent run of games.
I hope we are definetely looking at getting a new striker come the summer.
Also on GT a decent right back and has been a good servant but I would not be unhappy if we moved him on. Not sure bringing KT is the right option either.
Another 3 points and sevco dropped points, so all in all a decent day.
1.) 06 Jan 2025 05:41:52
Paulm74 . I tend. to agree with u . I feel we should be looking to buy a better striker than either of the two we have and let both Kyogo and Idah compete for half a season to see which. We should keep as back - up.
2.) 06 Jan 2025 10:26:32
Kyogo is nowhere near what we saw under our previous manager and Idah is still not the finished article. I have mentioned before that it's the first season for a while where I feel we do not have a 25 -30 goal striker to put away the chances we create.
Thankfully, there have been goals right through the team for much of the season, but I agree it would be wise to bring in more fire power.
3.) 06 Jan 2025 12:33:41
Kyogo has seriously regressed since Rodgers has taken over. I was and still am confident there is a good player in Idah but he can't get a run of games. He needs to do better when he is given starts to impress.
To be fair to both kyogo and idah the service into them has been dreadful for a very long time. We seriously need a playmaker and stop being so 1 dimentional with going wide all the time. We need someone that can split a defence with a pass. Mcgregor, Bernardo, Hatate and Engels are not capable of regularly providing thru the middle. None of them see a run and the odd time they do they rarely pull it off.
Anyway, back to our striker issue, Id like to see young kenny and or cummings get some game time. Kyogos days are numbered and will be replaced although will likely be the summer.
4.) 06 Jan 2025 12:35:08
I would say that both strikers are not hitting form just now but I don't think I would go as far as to say they are average.
I personally like Idah but feel he should be working harder off the ball. If he pressed quicker and with more intensity (not just him) then we would create more opportunities. I also feel this is why Brendan usually opts for Kyogo to start, as he presses better.
I heard Thierry Henry talking about how Pep made him love pressing. He said Pep educated him on why he should press. He asked Henry if we wanted to do less running and spend more time in and around the box. He explained that if Henry pressed the whole team would be higher up the pitch and we would do less running as he would not need to track back to the half way line as often.
With regards to Kyogo, I really rate him but think he is on a higher wavelength to the majority of our team. He often makes really intelligent runs but nobody plays him in. I also feel that our system does not suit him at times because we can often be very slow in our build up, which means that the opposition are all back defending and there is little space for him to exploit. If we moved the ball forward quicker and whipped balls in to the box from deep, we would see a different player.
5.) 06 Jan 2025 16:56:54
It takes a world class midfielder to be able to split 8 to 10 men defences, like we come up against regularly in Scotland. When we are struggling against this type of cover defence, many people argue we have to go down the wings to create space. We often do this regularly and get decent crosses in but neither Kyogo or Idah seem to be able to steer enough crosses home . I don’t think Kyogo isn't near as sharp and accurate as he was in first couple of yrs. Idah is only a shadow of the player wanting a contract with us, he seems too fond of trying to flick a cheeky type goal than burying ball .

Great performance last night and still on cloud 9. Last night took me back to the great champions league nights under Martin O'neils team. Long may it continue.

Looks like McCowan has also been confirmed.
28 Aug 2024 17:32:23
Augsburg only doing to us what we did to other teams with MOR. We did not budge until a team met our valuation of MOR.
Teams know we have money and will know we are desperate.
26 Aug 2024 21:31:49
Derry Tim that's what worries me no CB.
15 Aug 2024 17:31:39
Would love to see the boy Engels signed, however I think this would mean MOR is away. Would prefer MOR to stay for one more year, however Atalanta seem determined to sign him.
28 Jul 2024 01:04:50
We need a CB better than CCV. Scales should be backup along with Rocki, although he is having no luck with injuries. Welsh and Kobayashi can both go, simply not good enough.

I was at the Partizan match as a young boy and don't think I have ever experienced as many highs and lows during one game of football.

I am just enjoying the bhoys being in a knockout tie win, lose or draw. I am proud of my team.

No doubt Kyogo was great for us and I wish him well, but the amount of chances he missed was horrendous.
30 Nov 2024 21:05:20
I was pleased with the point against a very decent side. Keeps us in a good position to qualify.
