The Dons gave Thelin time to implement his ideas before sacking him. We even chipped in by gifting him a Cup victory last May. Celtic cannot afford to wait. Who can we bring in if we sack him. Go cap in hand to MON? Wouldn't blame him for saying no.
But who else is oven ready to Boss the Bhoys?
We must get it right. We can't do a Sevco merry go round of unknowns. So lads give me a name or names for immediate hire? And don't just say 'anyone would be better than Nancy. ' Name quality.
{Ed007's Note - Nicky Hayen could be appointed immediately, so could Marco Rose. Kieran McKenna or Regis Le Bris could be options in the summer, Knutsen looks like he's resigning at Bodo/Glimt but it's not a done deal yet...

Big ange.

A don't get the can't blame O'Neil thing, he knew what was happening and giving him the job for Cpl months probably gave him a new lease of life, a love MON but don't think he's the Answer even until end of season, Ange for me or Hayen.

Ed007, Hayen and Rose were both sacked by their respective clubs. Why do you feel either is good enough for Celtic despite being discarded from previous posts?
{Ed007's Note - Brendan Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool, MON and Ange were sacked by Forest.. I don't see your point, most managers have been sacked at some point, even Jose.}

I would like Knutsen as he has a long track record domestically and in Europe. He will know the Scandinavian scene in minute detail which is usually full of strong robust players.
With my negative head on I think the board want a cheap punt who won't put many demands on them.
Step forward Shaun Maloney.
{Ed007's Note - The thing with Knutsen and to a certain degree Hayen is that the clubs are built towards their success, they are only a cog in a much bigger wheel and they could struggle without the proper set up.
Havard Sakariassen would be a much better "signing" than Knutsen.}

MON would be my first point of call, it would be his for as long as he wanted it as far as I'm concerned. I don't think we can afford another risk this season!

Agreed on the set up Edd07 however perhaps we need that forceful type to implement those changes behind the scene.
Like I said previously though I think they want a manager who won't make demands on them?.

Ed, I would take any of the 4 you mentioned. All experienced managers and as you say just because you get the sack doesn't make you a bad manager but there are exceptions and our current Manager is one of those.
However as you also said it is OK getting one of these guys in but we need to get a modern infrastructure around them to be successful and to do this we need a new board.
If we continue with the current regime I really fear that sevco will strengthen and we could find ourselves falling to 3rd or 4th in the league.
What us worse for me then what our board are doing is seeing that smug p***k McInnes all over the media relishing our demise.

Havard Sakariassen with Knutsen in the summer would be ideal. It would be seen as progressive and get most fans onside. They'd have time to implement their style over the pre-season.
Shame that Hayen has already taken the Genk job since leaving Club Brugges. He had them playing some great stuff. As much as he was a cog in the machine, Brugges were operating at a similar level to us. He'd have been sure to have a few players he could have targeted for us.
For here and now we need someone to come in, steady the ship and see us through to the end of the season. The league is still absolutely there for the taking but if we keep Nancy we will be lucky to finish 3rd. I'm not sure O'Neil would fancy a another return. I would also be surprised if there's current board could attract Ange back.
Any realistic suggestions for a stop gap until the summer if it's not O'Neill?
{Ed007's Note - I missed Hayen going to Genk ?♂️ but you get my gist

The Motherwell manager, or are we too snobbish,
05 Jan 2026 10:08:59
I suggested that after BR left. Motherwell playing nice football on a shoestring.

Same Ed, I only seen it mentioned earlier that he went to Genk.
My worry is the board have no plan B regarding Nancy. There is no stand out contender to come in and take over if its not Ange or MON.
I can't see someone like McKenna taking it just now given all the negativity around the club. Maybe in the summer when they know they have a chance to rebuild.
There will be uproar from a lot of fans if someone like Strachan or Maloney is given it on an interim basis. The board are well and truly snookered .
Is there anyone we'd be happy with on an interim basis until the end of the season (excluding Ange or MON) ?
