Anyone on here up for a 'sack the board' protest tonight?

Agree4 Disagree0

No!

But, just curious, what have the board actually done to deserve to be sacked?

I'm looking for specifics, the John McGinn example is something that the board dropped the ball on, but please enlighten me as to what has happened over the last couple of years to warrant this?

For all anyone knows we might have been turned down by several players who just don't fancy the Scottish league, crap plastic pitches, long winters, no exposure, 47% tax rate. It's a very hard sell.

Sorry 48% (didn't realise it had gone up again, I don't live in Scotland)

To put that into perspective a player on £10k a week will lose £17,000 a year by opting to play in Scotland rather than England

A player on £20k a week will lose over £33,000 a year.   And only get more the higher the wage (the better the player, players who might actually improve our team) . These are not insignificant amounts of money.

The other thing is, clubs want to hold onto good players as long as they can - imagine if we'd sold Daizen at the start of August? We might well sell him before the window closes but you'd much rather start the season with him get through qualifiers, league cup, build a lead in the league first. Only out of favour players, troublemakers, etc clubs are happy to get rid of early in the window. Last few days of the window much better players will be available to us (especially if we are in the champions league) .

To paraphrase the rebel song . being on the board makes them guilty so they're guilty one and all.

Gerry

What have the board actually done?

15 Aug 2025 13:46:02
Short memory and spoiled fan syndrome it seems here. I grew up in the 90s so to see the success we've had over the past 15 years is something we could never have dreamed of back then.

Seriously?

Last season we spent over £40m, the most transfer outlay of any season in our history, and indeed that of any club in Scotland.

This season we have already signed a player earning more than £50 a week, our highest paid player ever (and the highest paid player in the history of Scottish football)

Last 2 managerial appointments have been very successful (not many clubs in World football can say that)

We turn a profit every year and are sustainable and futureproof

And most importantly, they have presided over the most sustained period of success in the clubs history.

Gerry, good post but that only applies to their 'official' PAYE income. Image rights can still be through side businesses, CalMac Ltd for example. there are plenty of loop holes in our tax system.

15 Aug 2025 15:06:52
Seriously

Last year we did not spend 40m, we reinvested some of the Matt ORielly money.

This year we are still to spend any of the Kyogo or Khun monies.

Have you listened to our manager lately.

Our board aim to come out of every transfer window richer not stronger.

Last season we bought Sinisalo (1m) , Bernardo (3.5m) , Idah (9m) , Trusty (6m) , Engels (11m) , McCowan (1m) , Jota (9m) that's £40.5m. Not counting loan fees for Valle and Schlupp.

Where the money comes from is irrelevant!

Manager wants complete control of buying players, he's never going to get it, no manager ever will or should be given it. Personally I think he's working his ticket anyway as already decided he doesn't fancy staying beyond the 3 years.

15 Aug 2025 17:18:10
And not one player of that 40m is likely to be a first pick anytime soon. BR needs to take some responsibility for that.

Can I bring my shark?

{Ed007's Note - As long as it doesn't swear.}
