Respect from Celtic Board to good Celtic Managers.
Jock Stein - treated appallingly
Tommy Burns - treated appallingly
Brendan Rodgers - treated appallingly
The hierarchy at Celtic Park have not supported managers in various forms over the years, Stein and TB, s departures left bad taste in the supporters mouths and its looking like departure No2 for Brendon is heading the same way. let's support our managers please the same way the fans support the team . You'll never walk alone, Im not sure our directors buy into that regarding the manager of our club.

Could you add Wim Jansen to that although I don't know the background to that?
13 Aug 2025 16:08:09
Davie Hay allegedly was told to buy a player he wanted from his own wallet!

Tommy Burns was backed to the hilt! We had a cracking team under Burns. I'd rather have Cadete, Di Canio, Van Hooijdonk and Thom than Maeda, Idah, Nygren and Forrest! Ultimately Burns' teams came up short in the league and Burns was replaced by Jansen which proved to be the right decision. How much has BR spent in comparison to other Celtic managers?

Buzz
They certainly have previous.
Jock Stein gave a former player whose career was ended through injury at a young age £2k out of his own pocket because there was nothing forthcoming from the board.
Says it all eh? Best bit of advice I ever got was from ma old man ‘Judge a man by how he treats a person who is no longer of any use to him’.
The biggest problem here though appears to be major share holder.

I was also thinking Wim Jansen because he refused to stay longer than his historic season.
Wim mentioned he couldn’t work with general manager Jock Brown anymore and that he hadn’t spoke to the Celtic board including Fergus since the January that season.
His Number 2 Murdo McLeod was the go between our Manager and Board.

That’s true JFP.
A couple of AGM’s ago, the ordinary shareholders vote showed NO faith in 2 Celtic Board members but Dermot Desmond had the majority of votes to keep those same Board members.
That’s no good and makes a mockery of a resolution vote in the first place.

Tbs treatment and departure and lack of backing was all down to the man fans want a statue of.
13 Aug 2025 16:59:54
WJ never wanted to work with then after 1 season.

Tommy got short changed by McCann. The 3 amigos played 1 season together and it was disrupted by constant extension talk. He did get money but was up against a Zombie team with big pockets. The stadium build and McCann fighting shadows over a pound cost Tommy. A Celtic legend that people forget what he gave our club.

I seem to remember Wim Jansen was hindered and hampered by the brother of Craig Brown (JOCK) who really had no business being at Celtic in the first place IMO.
Generally though, as far back as I can remember back to Sir Robert Kelly's rule, we have seen Celtic usually run as a Dictatorship.
With little respect for managers and none at all for the support.

I think the board is gambling with the CL qualification. Not giving us the best chance to do so is gross misconduct IMO in most jobs people would be at risk for being sacked for that. No one can be complacent about us qualifying regardless of who we are playing.

Tony
It’s absolute insanity.
13 Aug 2025 18:26:34
If they had bought the cb and keeper tommy wanted they'd have won the lot.
13 Aug 2025 18:43:05
Who was the cb and keeper Mally?
13 Aug 2025 20:01:44
Sorry, but if we can’t beat the team from Kazakhstan with what we’ve got then Rodgers deserves the sack. Once we win, then the players that are needed will want to sign as we will have the group games.
13 Aug 2025 20:31:47
Edg this is something that completely goes over people's head on here. Oven ready CL players won't sign for a club that isn't in the CL.
13 Aug 2025 22:15:10
Edg why Rodgers and not any of the board? I get that we are favourites and quite rightly so BUT we are down our best striker from last season and we are down Khun who was flying at this time last year up front there is no doubt in my mind we are far weaker up front than this time last year, Why are the board putting the team and Rodgers in this position going into a Qualifying round travelling 5000 miles then to play Sevco 5 days later? With a weaker team?
13 Aug 2025 22:15:42
Tommy wanted a cb and a decent keeper the board bever sanctioned ir, that's all that team needed we got big yogi for a song but needed better.
14 Aug 2025 01:33:56
It's not Kuhn that's needing replaced it's Liel Abada that hasn't been replaced!
14 Aug 2025 07:58:32
Tont2bhoy it’s not about who we have or haven’t sold or signed at the moment. It’s about what competition we will be in before we sign players. Champions league means better players and therefore more expense. If we were to sign a few players on mega wages with big transfer fees and lose this play off we would be see players without the money coming in to cover. This could be for a few years if we weren’t to get back into the group stages. It’s not about us being weaker and having to buy. It’s about making sure we know where we will compete this season.

The major anti Board articles concerning Jock Stein was Celtic Board offering him a role as Head of Celtic Pools instead of place on Board which jock asked for. Remember J. Stein had a very bad accident less than 3 yrs previously. Stein turned down Celtic offer and SMSM had a great time ridiculing Celtic Board saying they didn’t want a Protestant on their Board and that was only reason.
However they didn’t compare Celtic’s offer to Stein to Man Utd’s treatment of Sir Matt Busby . Utd gave him a place on Board, however rather than been the plume position both men sought, this turned out to be a disastrous . This Job as. Director wasn’t allowed to pay any wages and Sir Matt was insistent that he must have a wage . A compromised was met which resulted in him walking to a shop that was somewhere in stadium, and he was given a paper bag filled with silver coins and had to carry this home . Very insulting for a man who had done so much for club, it’s hard to think of anything more humiliating.
That would also been the fate for Jock Stein as he retired with very little or no money as he had lost all his money to bookies. Imagine how the SMSM would have been delighted if by chance some of them may have had a brain wave and found. out Celtic had paid one of their icons tax free, this would have been a God send for Rangers even though they had over 30 tax frauds at the one time .
Jock Stein was a first class manager of Celtic . He rarely publicised differences between he and the Board. JS. had the ability to talk the Board into agreeing with funding the players he wanted . He agreed with individual players new contracts, many players preferred to discuss terms with Board rather than JS.
Not only did Jock Stein in public show respect to Board, but he always insisted on his players showing respect, by sending them to apologise to Board in person or in writing.

McCann refusing to back Tommy is not forgotten, by those of us who were there and old enough to realise what that cost us.
14 Aug 2025 15:47:51
I was there during they days and the quality of player McCann backed Burns with was exceptional. McCann is not responsible for Burns failing to win a title. McCann was at the helm when Jansen took over and won a title.
