Yeah, Willie Henderson stopped Jinky from more caps. Not Henderson's fault. Just the way it was around the Scotland set up then.

James McGrory, with 539 goals in 534 games at club level amassed 7 caps for Scotland - and scored 6 goals in those 7 games - 30 years before the Lisbon Lions era. You can read about the very strange Scotland team that was selected to play a friendly against the USSR (that's Russia for the young 'uns) two weeks before we were due to play in Lisbon HERE.
There was a clear bias against Celtic players by the SFA, their selection committees & managers up to the late 70s at least, although some people might say there were managers since then who done the same in their own snidey ways.}

{Ed007's Note - I'm no lover of international football and I'd prefer Celtic players didn't play for their national teams but I also know how important it is to players and when you see how players like McGrory, McNeill & Jinky etc were treated it shows that the selection system stank from the start.}

Just read that bit you put on here Edd and it made my blood boil, to play 7 Celtic players 2 wks b4 the biggest game in our History is diabolical, a don't watch Scotland but going to watch them evn less now?.

I was aware of the McKinnon bias over McNeil but I hadn't appreciated the facts around James McGrory. Can't find the words how bad that was. I recall being at the Celtic end for a Scotland game against the ROI mid 80s (I wasn't really bothered who won but I leaned towards the Irish) . A guy next to me kept saying Jazzer this. Jazzer that (Jim Bett of Rangers for the benefit of younger posters) during the game. Really put me off Scotland combined with the anti Celtic bias I remembered from the 70s.

Even if the entire Celtic side was playing for Scotland under a non-Celtic manager you couldn't guarantee there would be the same harmony on and off the field.

Sure Im not making this up but I think there is a clip out there where Jinky said he didn't actually enjoy playing for Scotland and might even have been booed by the Rangers part of the Scotland support.
I thought Willie Henderson was a great player and a good drinking buddy of the Wee Man but not a patch on Jinky.
SFA should be ashamed of the way they have run Scottish football.

Having watched quite a few Celtic and Rangers matches in the late 1960’s I thought that maybe apart from our goalie, after Simpson was forced to retire, Celtic were stronger in about every position, than the Rangers player
Of course despite my youth, I thought I was an expert on all football matters.
Years later I realised that, as a teenager in the late 60’s, I. didn’t know as much as I thought I did.

When i was a teenager I wasn't allowed to go to Celtic games. I went to a few Scotland games and remember our players getting pelters. It was the last Scotland game I ever went to and I don't even watch them on the tv.

Mibby a bit late to party on this, I hate internationals don't even bet on them lol but we live in a proddy country they always try chisel us but at least we're not at back of bus anymore were driving it.
