What positions do we need to strengthen before the window closes?
I personally think we need a CM to replace Holm, a striker to replace Kyogo and a LB to replace Valle.
On top of that we may see another winger, which would indicate either Maeda moving to the middle or Yang heading out the door, with my money being on Maeda moving to the middle and no striker coming in.

Sarcastically speaking, we are looking for a LB, ST and CDM in the likeness of Wanyama. But the clock's ticking and it'll be last minute stuff like always. Who have we signed in the last 4 weeks?
So, at 11pm on Monday night we'll end up with Wanyama for £18m, Shankland for £15m and Michell Frame and Adam Montgomery to fight it out for the LB slot.

We need lb and striker both 1st team ready . I am not sure in this window we need to replace a non playing mid fielder . However if we get a good right sided centre defender who we could expect to play at a good standard every game, as CCV is unreliable.
{Ed007's Note - It's surprising - and refreshing - to see there's more and more fans seeing that CCV isn't the defensive rock he seems to be portrayed as. I'm not saying he's a bad player and he is our best CB but when you look at the others is that such a difficult/great achievement?}

Am not a Ccv, Mcgregor or Teirney fan for Europe yes they are decent in SPL but my main area needing strengthening is big Strong CB in the Ramon Vega mould and am worried no1 has been mentioned even against sevco we wer exposed. got to be sum1 out ther.

I’m a big CCV fan and he’s up there with our best Centre Backs over the last 20 years.

@Wee Des - With Holm gone, we only have 5 midfielders, which we don't have cover for one of the positions. It only takes us 2 injuries and we don't have any cover in the midfield. So unless we have a good midfielder in our B team, we need to bring in cover.
01 Feb 2025 15:05:44
we should've brought in someone who is better to partner him not projects or prospects or hope will be's.
{Ed007's Note - In an ideal world the new LCB should have been an upgrade on CCV and when he moves on the new RCB should be an upgrade on the LCB.}

Would you say that about CCV in a CL context Buzz?
01 Feb 2025 17:13:19
Replacement for Holm. he hardly kicked a ball!
01 Feb 2025 17:25:50
@vosbhoy you are missing the point. We need at least 2 players for each position. With Holm leaving we do not have that.
Now we only have Callum, Hatate, Engels, McCowan and Bernardo to cover three positions.

The frustrating thing is we knew what we needed when the 'Window' opened and that includes them knowing that Tierney was not a certainy thus month and Kyogo wanted out. However, here we are at the tail end with the clock ticking with several positions needing attention.
' Personally, I think our Board were too busy with the mutual back slapping regarding our accomplishments at the halfway stage to even bother about what was required and how urgently it had to be done.

Rumour we are after Kelechi Iheanacho. BR was after him before. Not sure if he is still as good as he was. Might be decent loan to buy.
The Danish guy is a no go, as we refused to pay way over what he is worth.
There were those who thought we would overpay as we are desperate but it seems rather than pay over the odds, we might get loan and stick with Maeda and Idah.
Like Ed I would like a big strong experienced CB, who is good in the air and quick but it seems to be up front and out wide this widow.
I just hope Idah seizes his chance and continues to hit the net regularly.
I loved Kyogo but his goal tally this season has made it easier to move on but his closing down will be hard to replace.

Knowing what positions requiring new players before or when windows open is certainly preferable. I am confident that our Board have clear targets from before window opened and now fully intend to do their business, today or tomorrow, when the vast majority of transactions are carried out
I don’t think club are actively searching for anyone other than lb and striker .
Centre defenders positions should be up for change . Maybe next summer we should sign a big strong right cb who either replaces CB or else has CCV as back-up . Either Trusty or Scales should be sold and a new cb better than any currently at Celtic is bought . Just like MO’N never filled goalie position with a good keeper, Ange and BR haven’t signed quality Centre backs .
I just don’t see a midfield addition coming in, currently we have 2 quality centre midfielders capable of improving our midfield by two replacements
If we buy a 3rd replacement, it will become more difficult keeping everyone happy by dividing match time by 6 for 3 positions, will dilute play time too thinly.

Earlier in the season the majority were happy with CCV, Trusty and Scales. The only debate being had was should we play Scales or Trusty as LCB.
I think we are often too critical of players and like to attribute blame. Often our centre backs are left exposed because our full backs and midfield are up the park and our Centre Backs are high up the pitch as well, sometimes helping out in attack. This is not their fault as this is how the manager wants them to play.
Therefore, when we lose the ball, our team need to quickly transition to defence and have a lot of ground to make up. This looks bad as attackers often have an abundance of space and an overload while we are tracking back.
{Ed007's Note - I've been critical of CCV since we signed him, his lack of height and poor ability in the air stuck out immediately and is a constant worry, he can be forced off the ball too easily at times and bullied by physical attackers, he misses too many European games and the one's he does play in he is as much a liability and prone to costly errors as CalMac is at that level.}
02 Feb 2025 14:03:52
We have no cover for ccv who misses a lot of big games.
02 Feb 2025 14:36:53
We need central defensive cover for CCTV and Trusty, Scales isn't good enough for the higher standards in Europe, and unless Murray shows that he is capable of doing that, we definitely need a central defender.
03 Feb 2025 18:22:45
There has been knockers for Scales since he came into the team . He and Taylor have been ridiculed and abused, not by opposition fans but by Celtic so called fans . Yet they played together all last season and did a very good job . BR had no difficulty pairing them together and unlike another centre back neither missed more than a game or 2 through injury.
