I don’t watch much international football but stuck the Scotland game on last night out of boredom, was a cracking game end to end, could have been 5-5 if either side had a decent striker. Won’t catch on for me tho, look forward to real football back at the weekend.
One thing I did want to say tho is I’m getting very annoyed about Ben Doak, that guy is going to be a £15-20m player very soon, if not already, possibly even more and we lost him for a song.
Why do we even bother with an academy, any half decent players heads to England or Germany at the age of 16 and we get buttons. Total waste of time and the more I see that guy and guys like him the more I think we should just rip it up.
{Ed001's Note - he is already worth much more than that.}

Celtic hands are tied because the setup in Scottish football is poor.
We will continue to lose decent young talent unless Scottish football bring back competitive reserve football.

Im not sure it wasn't for a want of trying. Wasn't the lad in the first team squad before he left.

If Liverpool come calling and the potential of working with Jurgen Klopp (at the time) you would be stupid to turn the chance down. You have to remember Celtic have got 0 structure in place for young guys coming through our system. 1 in roughly 100 players end up playing 50 games for the first team. It’s the structure that’s the problem.

Not until Liverpool showed an interest then they gave him some minutes. you read a lot of these boys saying there is no clear plan of development progression and lack of communication. the bhoy Kenney was recently talking about it. On the lack of communication from Celtic regarding himself and how he's doing on loan . is it as backwards as blindly assuming the bhoys are Celtic fans they'll stay and put up with it?

We tried to keep him he wanted out.

So I get we wanted to keep him, that's besides the point. And as for no pathway, no reserve league etc etc, yes that's true also and probably doesn't help.
But my point was, we can't tie down good prospects properly (possibly rightly so, again different argument) so what's the point in us ploughing money into an academy when anyone good enough for our first team goes to England/ equivalent, anyone not good enough goes to Ireland/ equivalent. And we get about 1% of the compensation we are due for players.
There's no point in us busting our guts to produce the next quality street gang when all they'll do is go to liverpool/ man utd/ bayern/ whoever and we'll get about £100k each for them. Why bother?
Surely just close our academy, put the money into scouting, and buy players from elsewhere at the age of 16/ 17, play the game to our advantage.
