Guys go to BBCsport/football. There is a very informative if somewhat confusing explanation of how the co-efficient points work for the CL & EL. After reading this it really brings it home how corrupt the whole thing is and the fact that our team has even made it to the group stages brings home just how well we've done. Unfortunately it's not going to change and the only thing that will realistically help is other Scottish teams doing their part but that's not going to happen is it?
However I don't feel we have to settle for mediocrity and lack of ambition. let's be realistic, we are never going to win this competion again but we are in a very sound financial position and luckily able to bring in some talent. If PL loosens the purse strings just a little and backs NL the players he acquires will get CL experience this year and be bedded in for next years assault and if you read the mentioned article this can only help us move from pot 4 to 3 therefor making the draw slightly more favourable.
Hail hail

1.) There shouldn't be any country coefficient points at all. It is a club competition. There can be a seeding system like tennis. Based on immediate past performance of each club. That's the only fair way.
In no way should television viewing figures have anything to do with seeding club sides. That's a corruption of the sport right there. It wouldn't stand up to judicial review.

2.) IMO, the clue is in the name, Champions League. All champions regardless of country should qualify then play offs should take place for the remaining places. Never happen though :-(

I don't get to half as many games as I'd like but managed to get up the road for the match today. The point I'm here to make is the atmosphere was non-existent!
The Green Brigade did not stop for 90 minutes and tried their best to generate some sort of support, but too many of our fans are of the mind-set that they are just there to be entertained. We bang on about the Celtic family and the Celtic way, well surely this a two way thing. The team need support, even when they were arriving at the ground and getting of the coach there was nothing! Not even a cheer!
Of course come Wednesday night it'll be bouncing, nobody expects any less but on days like today WE need to get behind the team.
I don't have the magic answer to our on-field problems, I wish I did but supporting our team vocally on match day might go a long way to helping us beat very ordinary teams! {Ed007's Note - Great post mate. The GB are there to help create an atmosphere but it is not solely their responsibility. Far too many fans are happy to sit there with an 'Oh let's sit and watch the GB' attitude instead of joining in the songs and chants.
It might just be part of the modern game because it isn't only a CFC problem, it does seem to be a British thing. The atmosphere at EPL grounds is like a wake, I know there are serious concerns at Man Utd about it, from the club and sections of their support. They have looked into introducing a 'singing section' as well. Roy Keane was spot on when he spoke about the prawn sandwiches.}

Dorsetbhoy

1.) Ed you hit the nail on the head with your mention of " let's sit here and watch the GB "
That is spot on what is going wrong. I sat explaining to my son today that years ago when I was his age the stand we were sat in was a terrace known as "the jungle" and the atmosphere was unbelievable but today was. The only word that gets close is . disappointing!

2.) Great post dorsetbhoy the clue is in the name, supporters! get behind the team at all cost hail hail mm

3.) Football is sanitised and it is killing the game. Seating was always going to cause this.Your point in the waiting to be entertained has two sides though. The atmosphere would be better if the tempo of the team was upped and we were pressing teams. Domestically last seasons best atmosphere was v Aberdeen when we came back to win 4-3. The team and the fans had a sniff of getting at them and went for it. We need to bounce of each other.

On the prawn sandwich brigade ED. Your bang on. As you know through my wife I can get corporate to any CL game.The only problem is they are bloody awful! Full of people who have never played, or even have any interest in, the game.Even during great games your lucky if they are back in their seats 20 minutes after half time. green jhedi {Ed007's Note - I've sat with them myself GJ, and don't get me started on the Rod Stewart's amongst our fans. Multi-millionaires who have never put a dime into the club for tickets or food etc. They turn up and everything is there and free for them while some poor guy is scraping £100 together to get the ticket package.}

4.) GJ, understand what your saying about it being a 2 way thing and all your posts I've read before make total sense but without trying to sound argumentative " what came first, the chicken or the egg?" I do understand what you mean about the tempo of the team but surely by urging/supporting the team forward this would then happen? To not support them and generate the atmosphere and think " I'm only supporting you if you try harder" is counter-productive surely?
Please take this the way it's meant mate, I'm not trying to get in a bun fight.

5.) @Dorsetbhoy@ A really valid point mate. Your chicken/egg argument holds a lot of water. I think ultimately it us up to the team to start the whole thing. When they walk out they are us.As soon as the whistle blows they should be going for the jugular at a high tempo. From the off we should be pushing on top of any SPL team, Europe of course is different as teams are invariably more skilful, and press them back. It's all about the speed of our game. green jhedi

6.) When the team walks out through to the huddle the team get a great response from the crowd - after that we are going to back them of course, but if the team don't look up to it or interested what kind of backing do they expect - any Celtic supporter would burst a gut every game for the team, how many (apart from Brown and Matthews) looked like it meant anything to them today?

7.) This thread could run forever and obviously it's something I would hope as fans we're all passionate about. I guess what I'm trying to say is Celtic are in a difficult place at the moment, some of it due to the state of Scottish Football at the moment and if we're honest some if of it our own doing. The team needs us and as fans we need our team, so let's all get behind OUR TEAM, starting with Wednesday evening, good bad or ugly this is OUR TEAM.
Hail Hail!

Hi Ed, first time poster, great site!
Sat watching the match and have been impressed by a few of our bhoys. Common's passing is fantastic, Boerrigter looks like a find and just what we need on the left so izzy can concentrate on defending. The most worrying thing for me at the moment is Ambrose, the guy is not Celtic quality. Every time he gets the ball I'm waiting for the inevitable mistake, that guy is going to cost us goals this season. Moan over, time for the 2nd half, c, mon the Tic! {Ed007's Note - Welcome to the site and thanks.}

Ed, am I doing/saying something wrong here? My last 4 or 5 posts have never been put up!

{Ed007's Note - The only other post from you recently is this one earlier tonight, you weren't logged in when you sent it buddy:

Che, I'm almost in full agreement with you. My worry is that while we are winning this one horse race of a league (yeah it's poor but it's not our fault) that elements of our support are happy. Jesus...wake up FFS!
We are not progressing as much as we should be, I'm not arrogant enough to say we're not progressing at all but don't fool yourselves, we could be a lot better!
Che, you mentioned investment? Spot on! We are coining it in...So spend some of it! We should be and need to be so far in front of the when they eventually make it back to the big boys table that we are untouchable. This could and should be a defining point in our clubs history. We can achieve success in the coming years that should remain unrivalled for ever. Instead we are settling for mediocrity! If the board don't think there is a need to invest (because of the standard of the league) then lower all the prices we as supporters pay, that's fair isn't it? Afterall with little investment, we're still going to win the league? So is it about the profit and the heated driveway for PL or is it about how successful the board (who we pay) can manage Celtic Football Club to be?
You mention the board supporting the fans? Contentious that one. If you are talking about support in the respect of investment, then f*cking right they should. For support in other areas? Then I disagree, certain individuals/groups are chipping away at our clubs good (well earned) name. Offensive banners, pyrotechnics and songs romanticising terrorism/terrorists have no place in todays football stadia
The clubs view on Scotlands shame? Again I disagree. What's our view got to do with anything? Anything we as a club say will only be twisted by the media. We know the truth and what's even better is so do they, but they can't admit it. Sometimes it takes the bigger man just to smile and walk away.
Strong manager? I'm with you on that! NL is not developing, why? because he can make tactically inept decisions in our league and still cheek a win. Anywhere else and he'd be found out (Champions League) He consistently plays guys who shouldn't even be on the pitch. Why? Cos he can and knows in this league he will get away with it.
You mention a united support? Investment in the team will produce this. As for the half & half scarf tweeters, unfortunately that's a sign of the times. Like or hate it...social media rules!
You all still awake?
Living wage? I'm with you 100% on this.
When you're on holiday and trying to explain to someone that your love for celtic is all about our ethos, our history and our founders and the foundations they layed for our great club (and it is a great club) When you find yourself welling up while singing YNWA with 60000 other likeminded people. When you find yourself hugging a complete stranger at the temple of doom as Commons scores against the scum. All of this is a passion that derives not only because of what's happening on the pitch but because we grew up steeped in history, from 1888 til present. We are rightly proud of our clubs charitable history! So for a board of millionares to forget where this club came from and deny it's employees the living wage is an insult to it's forefathers and they should hang their f*cking heads in shame!
That's my opinion folks. Some will agree some won't...so be It.
