I honestly think if they give O’Neil decent bit of cash he will transform the squad, they will be big strong but with quality, here we go to ten a row.

{Ed007's Note - MON has said he doesn't do projects which is a good sign but do you seriously want him to be in charge of spending Celtic's money?
That's been the biggest problem at Celtic for years, managers shouldn't be in charge of recruitment - no other "big" club does it, in fact not many clubs do it these days because it is just so short sighted and short term.}

Tbh mate whoever’s been in charge still ange left has been murder, even Nygren who’s number are great ain’t got it, I don’t think we do the number game that hearts do but I am led to believe that’s how we got oreilly.

{Ed007's Note - Ange wasn't in charge, that's just not true. He had a lot of say/sway but do you really think Ange knew the likes of Starfelt, CCV, Jota, Abada, Juranovic etc etc and for every Kyogo and Maeda there was also Ideguchi & Kobayashi.}

Most big clubs have a reliable scouting and recruitment set-up. Even some SPL clubs put Celtic to shame in the way they operate.
MON needs the proper people and network in place to rebuild and it's imperative we avoid and never repeat recent transfer window fiascos.

I don’t mate no but we did seem to have better hit rate on players then, ange first summer 90% players turn out great.

{Ed007's Note - Did we? How many of them did Ange Pick, Joy Dawson, Liam Shaw, who picked them, Joe Hart and James McCarthy. You think Ange knew who CCV or Jota were?

It's the same old same old, if a player is a success it's down to the manager but if a player is a flop we'll just blame the board.}

Underwhelmed if what i'm hearing is true about MO. Yes he won the double but the football was terrible and the transfers were terrible. We won the league not because of how well we played but because of Hearts and Rangers choking after the split.

Not a manager with a network for potential signings and not a draw for new players. Surely the club must have had some quality managers interested in the position or were we only interested in MO or Keane.

M8 I’m no saying ange picked them, I’m just saying it seemed better ran.

{Ed007's Note - And isn't that down to the board and recruitment team at the time then?

05 Jun 2026 21:24:25
Mark lawell signed all those players and whilst there was a few bad players the majority of those were great signings he was pushed out by fans and we ended up with Paul doctor death tisdale.

05 Jun 2026 21:24:41
Dom mackay seemed to beable to get them in.

Limerickcelt we won the league because O'Neil only lost 1 game when it mattered. If we hadn't appointed Nancy i'm positive we would have won the treble and the league with a few games too spare.

Yes I agree the football wasn't great but he definitely got a tune out of players that the rat and Nancy couldn't get. Give the guy the credit he deserves. HH.

SB

MON certainly gets the credit for winning

However let’s be honest the league was won due to the following

MON getting results when it mattered

AJ, Engels returning and Maeda hitting form when it mattered

Sevco and Baby Sevco both chocking big time when it mattered

McInnes should have played for the draw and shut up shop for the point he needed but he went for glory and his team bottled it with mere minutes left to go.

Letting the wrongly banned fans back in was a major boost as well.

If we hadn't let the fans in and if maeda had not hit form, we would not have won that league.

Ed am I right in thinking we can outsource the data side of recruitment to a number of companies that take our requirements and parameters and draw up unbiased lists of targets that we then look at, and there’s companies that have scouting networks for a fee will hand over there reports, not ideal as in house direction with a club based person would always be better alongside a structure that supports a specific identity/ vision etc etc ….

but in our scenario there’s plenty to go on basically and while not ideal it’s not be all and end all.

{Ed007's Note - The data is all out there and available - even in Football Manager - but yes there are companies like Hudl Wyscout & Analytics FC who collate all the data and stats that clubs hire/use.
Every club in football has access to the all the same data/stats, it's how they use that makes the difference but a lot of clubs have their own dedicated department, even Celtic but ours isn't a stand alone model, we use outside agencies too, whereas Hearts obviously use Bloom's Jamestown Analytics and then Man Utd have their very own in house dedicated department.
I'm sure our head of data analysis still Antoine Ortega.}
