On this date in 1979,
10 Men Won the league when Celtic beat Rangers 4-2 in a comeback victory.
Our 1979 title win was similar to 2026 because for long periods throughout the season finishing top looked unlikely.
1979 was a horrendous winter which played havoc with the football fixtures in the days before undersoil heating.
Celtic went into Christmas in 6th place after losing to Morton and then we never played another league match until March.
I think Celtic were then about 3rd bottom but we had loads of games in hand.
Celtic were 4th bottom at the end of March and only ahead of Partick Thistle on goal difference.
We were 10 points behind Dundee United ( 2pts win ) but we had 6 games in hand.
Celtic were 5 points behind Rangers but we only had 2 games in hand.
Celtic played an incredible 8 league games in the month of April.
We finished April only 5 points behind Dundee United and we had 5 games in hand.
Rangers were now 1 point behind Celtic but they had also played 5 games less than Dundee Utd.
Celtic then played another 6 league games until May 21st when we clinched the title, which meant we played 14 league games in only 47 days.

Buzz, I've said this before but I was there, second half was the best 45 minutes of football of my life, Celtic 3-2 after about 90 minutes, bobby lennox picked up the ball on the right wing, passed it right across to the left to Murdo who took a few steps and lashed it towards the goal from about 30 yards, I initially thought ' he's booted that out the park to waste a bit more time', then it hit the back of the net.
