Do u think the celts should go in and sign m o from st johnstone he is celtic man his dad works and celtic and it would really get it up that new govan team.

I actually like O'Halloran as a player - and think he'd offer us something - but I don't think we should be signing anyone because they support the club, they have family who work for the club, or to "get it up" any other team.

2.) 24 Jan 2016 14:39:47
Forgetting the hilarity value of getting one over on Rangers again, I am undecided on whether or not we should try and sign him.

The times I have seen him play (admittedly not that many) he has looked good. He does have lots of pace, which could prove useful in Europe where we might play counter attacking football. That being said he is far from the finished article and has much work to do on his finishing. On a different note I don't see the point of signing him now, unless we sent him back to Saints on loan, because he is unlikely to feature as we already have 3 strikers vying for 1 spot.

However, if we did sign him, I reckon Ronnie could develop his finishing and turn him into a better player. Not only that he would be cheap (unless you are Rangers) and would not command a big wage.

3.) 24 Jan 2016 14:41:16
Sign him then loan him to hibs lol.

4.) 24 Jan 2016 14:55:52
Haven't we already done that with Allen? is ohalleron better than what we already have? maybe with us dumping him once already he might not want to come back on us as we already have 5_6 people vying for positions in s the areas he plays in? I'd like / hope we start bring in better than we have or we will Need the biggest dugout in football to hold all the squad players coming in.

5.) 24 Jan 2016 15:19:46
Should say, I'd rather him than James Forrest - but I am still hopeful we will sign Elyounoussi.

6.) 24 Jan 2016 15:40:03
Nadir to saints on loan carlton cole to rangers on free as they are looking for player with pace ha and michael o be signed by tomorrow.

7.) 24 Jan 2016 18:22:56
We already have players of O'Hallorans calibre. What we need is to sign guys at a level above what we already have to push on and become more competitive on the European stage.

8.) 25 Jan 2016 00:29:19
We should be only signing players who will make us a better team in the short, medium or long term .
Any other reason doesn't make sense.

28 Dec 2015 18:45:59
Think he would be better than what we have edd just a suggestion.

celtic689

{Ed007's Note -You might be right, I don't watch Scottish lower league football so I wouldn't know. Do you watch a lot of Hibs matches?}

1.) 28 Dec 2015 19:03:37
Seen him a few times edd. he reminds me of leigh. he has grown up a bit seems to have knuckled down. we have good talent here in scotland whether people like it or not remind me where the lions were all from again. we have wasted ten to fifteen million on rubbish over the last ten years. thing about scottish players is they have been brought up playing here. if we signed messi do u think he would be good playing inverness on a wed night in the snow?

2.) 28 Dec 2015 20:04:01
Yes I think he probably would be.

{Ed007's Note - People said that and are still saying it about Scott Allan.}

3.) 28 Dec 2015 20:10:12
Maybe celtic689 :) . I'd give Messi a place even if he was wearing two jackets and a pair of snow boots.
That said I don't fully agree with the amount of talent Scotland produce. We have a couple of guys that cut it in the epl in mf but they aren't on the same level as guys from other nations down there creativity wise. I'm hard pushed thinking about any of our internationals that have done anything abroad in better footballing leagues in years and it is sad. Till we produce better homegrown players or don't miss out on the best that slip the net then I'd rather have players from the four corners than be sentimental.

4.) 28 Dec 2015 20:15:36
Just to clarify my comment was about whether messi would be any good playing Inverness in the snow on a Wednesday. I've no idea who the initial comment was about.

5.) 28 Dec 2015 20:19:03
We have signed or 'borrowed' some garbage in the last few years - some of them I can't even remember the names? Miko? Braffheid? Brozak? Berget, Balde, Blackman, Bangura, El Kaddouri, Murphy, Kapo, Lassad, Gershon, Moukoyolo, Scepovic, Pukki, Wakaso Blacket, Tonev and a few forgettable others.
The list may go on to include the likes of GMS and Ciftci and a couple more?
Of course we have signed or loaned some gems in the same period, but the amount of unsuccessful signings we have made recently is the reason I do not look forward to transfer windows and worry about the the clubs whole transfer and recruitment strategy from scouting to contract.

6.) 28 Dec 2015 20:24:00
celtic689, I have to disagree with you about Scottish players, I think our leagues up here are of a very poor standard at the moment, there are no Scottish teams who can get through the qualifying rounds of any European competition, and the national team are the only one of the home countries not to qualify for the European championships.
In the last year we have signed 2 Scottish players from Dundee united, but I don't think these players are any better than what we already had, Scott Allan was supposed to be Hibs best player, but so far he doesn't look anything special in our squad. In my opinion, if you keep buying players from Dundee united and Hibs, then you just become Dundee utd or Hibs, I don't think that's setting the bar very high.
The Lisbon lions were from a different era, when Scotland used to produce some really good players, those days have gone at present, I think Celtic should be looking further afield for talent, we should be looking to bring in players who will actually make us better, and not players who make no difference to us, but weaken any competition we have in our own League.

7.) 28 Dec 2015 20:56:25
Robson,Caldwell, Kennedy, mcmanaus, pearson,Hartley, maloney all replaced or where in the process of replacing the seville team and gaps left by departing players afterwards . Few of those guys played a part and were the best we had as a nation to offer but we didn't advance from where we were then as a club and I don't see the point in having a strong scottish scottish core now unless they are good enough. The same applies to our current squad.
It doesn't matter where a player is from.

8.) 28 Dec 2015 21:00:08
I'd have a few of those guys back now over some in our squad

9.) 28 Dec 2015 21:07:20
I think if Ronnie had been in charge of the Lisbon Lions, they would have never have gotten anywhere, he would have rotated the squad so much that, the team would have never have had a chance to gell, he would have kept the creative players on the bench, maybe giving them 3 or 5 minutes at the end of the game, like he's doing with Allan, in favour of the more productive (in his eyes ) players, and play other players away from their best position, like he's doing with Armstrong.

10.) 28 Dec 2015 21:31:50
Aindoh. The players in the lisbon team shoulder to shoulder were some of the best in European football at that time. Stein was one of the best managers of that time. Come on mate. It's a different galaxy.

11.) 28 Dec 2015 21:54:50
They became the best because they were allowed to play together and grow and develop together, and were coached properly and played to their strengths, they grew in confidence and what they lacked in skill was made up in self belief, they were a team first and foremost, i think if Ronnie was in charge, and if he had the same pool as Stein, he would maybe have picked only three of the team that Stein ended up picking.

12.) 28 Dec 2015 22:26:01
You forgot Boerrigter matet, Celtic have had 3 naffish Dutch left wingers over the years (Petta, Blinker) and he is the third best .

13.) 29 Dec 2015 04:39:38
bit harsh on petta there lol he gave me one of my most enjoyable moment's in an old firm match during the 6-2 game where he done ricksen so many times he never even made it to half time before being hooked.

14.) 29 Dec 2015 10:29:19
RD would probably have played jinky as a holding midfielder and Bertie as outside right. Seriously the majority of the Lions had been there for a few years before big Jock arrived and had little success. He made them the team. RD doesn't seem able to make this group of players a team.

15.) 29 Dec 2015 14:42:09
Jock Stein once experimented with playing Big Billie as centre forward .
It didn't work but it didn't mean Big Jock was a bad manager . He also dropped T Gemmill from a League Cup final against Parthick Thistle we got stuffed . Wee Jimmy replaced J Craig injured ( only one sub ) didn't make Jock a bad manager .
Imagine if RD had a squad like that and made some of decisions that Jock made the young uns now would have filled with so much despair and hatred that they would lose control of themselves.

16.) 29 Dec 2015 14:54:14
Think your grasping at straws Oldbhoy.

17.) 29 Dec 2015 23:14:45
My facts are your straws Aindoh . If u don't know the facts don't query . I wouldn't post lies about any Celtic manager, certainly not J Stein.

28 Dec 2015 18:16:34
Jason cummins and leigh up front thoughts on that edd? good young talent send stokes to hibs in deal.

celtic689

{Ed007's Note - Why do we need any more players from the lower leagues of Scotland?}

1.) 28 Dec 2015 20:18:15
I'd take him definitely. Seen him about a dozen times and he's more often than not a standout. His record against the Govan mob is terrific as well which is always a bonus 👍🏻.

2.) 29 Dec 2015 14:46:30
The SMSM seem to think that the Championship is the best league in Scotland Some of our fans seem to agree .

3.) 29 Dec 2015 17:45:35
I doubt anybody on here thinks that Old Bhoy.

4.) 29 Dec 2015 18:18:48
They watch it. And recommend players from it . In addition many share the SMSM views about the SPL champions and leaders.

5.) 29 Dec 2015 19:32:45
I've watched Hibs and Rangers play a few times because they're usually entertaining games with a bit of an edge but the standard of league is worse. Jason Cummings is a better player than Ciftci in my opinion, he's versatile, works harder and scores more goals.

6.) 29 Dec 2015 23:21:31
If you put a player in a low enough league he will probably score .
From reading here I thought Cliftci was a cart- horse with tortoise speed yet on Sunday he out paced the Hearts left back who just managed to get him tripped .

I wonder who gets most encouragement from his supporters Cummings or Cliftci .
Does Cummings hear groans when the ball goes near him

A player without confidence is easily marked, and doesn't achieve much
A confident player will take on the world and achieve much .

7.) 30 Dec 2015 12:02:06
I'm not saying Ciftci can't do a job for Celtic, I'm saying Cummings is a better player, regardless of playing in the Championship. He's not in that league because that's his level, he's in that league because Hibs got relegated before he was in the first team. Hibs have been responsible for producing probably the best youngsters out of all the teams in Scotland over the past decade or so and for me Cummings can be just as good, if not better, than Riordan or Fletcher. In my opinion he could immediately replace Forrest as he has a far better end product.

8.) 30 Dec 2015 14:22:13
We see how good he will turn out Kevbhoy who do you support?
You won't be expecting a job as a scout by judging a player after watching a low division game on TV .
Personally I love Celtic too much to watch lower League football.

9.) 30 Dec 2015 22:16:44
Not looking for a job Old Bhoy but I reckon I know enough about football to know a decent player when I see one. I don't understand how your love for Celtic would affect your ability to watch other teams or leagues but the fact that I have seen him play multiple times would suggest I'm better placed than you to comment on his ability and potential. Although I respect your right as a fan to have higher hopes than a Championship player.

10.) 30 Dec 2015 23:12:45
Kevbhoy, you must be exceptional. Every top club have maybe hundreds of scouts, not sitting on their arse listening to comments from either failed managers or else people who hadn't the confidence to become managers, and be influenced by these nobodies . The clubs actually spend money sending their scouts to watch a specific player or maybe maximum of two players . The scouts come away from that match and usually wouldn't have an idea of how other players perform . Different scouts watch the prospective player up to head scout or manager before club make an approach Yet you know exactly from watching on Tv whether a player is the next Fletcher .
( I would suggest most young players would cast their aspirations higher than Riordan, remind me who has he starred for over the last 2/ 3 years .

11.) 31 Dec 2015 01:05:08
Nobody for the past 2/ 3 years but he's the SPL's 3rd highest goalscorer so I'd say that's a fairly decent level to aspire to. I don't really know what your issue is here Old Bhoy (as always) . Are you saying I'm wrong about him being a good player because I'm not a scout? Is my opinion not as valid as anybody else's? I happen to think he's a good player having watched him and been impressed and you seem to be intent on disagreeing without having ever seen him. I don't see the point in anything you've posted on this thread.
