I hold my hands up and say I didn't believe this when I read it first and had to go and check it from another source . Of all who enter Football Academies at 9 yrs of age only 1% ever sign Professional Football forms . Less than half the 9 yr olds are still with an academy at 14 . Important to note clubs running academies have more players providing opposition to the players they may have some expectations as they need this backup to develop those who may have a chance.
Worldwide out of 250 billion 130,000 make it to Professional level.

There are even some of that 130,000 where you struggle to believe how they made it. I suspect of the majority who 'drop-out', many have great ability and talent, but are rejected because of issues with stature, attitude and application, discipline, fitness and mental strength and of course like any other entertainment industries, it all boils down to someone's opinion where faces might not easily fit.
I don't think there are many of us who grew up with players with great skill and potential, who actually made the grade.

2.) 25 Apr 2024 18:32:12
Maybe the academies are over coaching the kids and stifling their natural abilities, and throwing the babies out with the bathwater and keeping the ones that fit the profiles of what they perceive as a player of the future.

3.) 25 Apr 2024 18:55:33
I'm sure that does happen aindoh. Can you imagine Pele, Maradona, Jinky, Best, Ronaldinho etc etc in a Youth Academy? Their talents would have been stifled. Mediocre players can be coached to improvement. Real naturals are special and they embrace and light up the game with their skills.

My son’s under 10s at Queens Park. I wouldn’t say the training was strenuous, but it’s very much the coach will explain a drill once and they’re expected to pick it up quickly. I’d also say it’s heavily based on attitude and work rate they’re expected to play, at that age in every position bar goalkeeper, and if they’re hurt they’ll never be coddled they’ll be expected to get up. In my eyes makes sense because you need to be ready for that physicality. I also had to fill out forms about my own height ect and they’ll look at parents to see what height and build they are to determine the kids. He’s also had to do cognitive tests on the computer, so a 4 by 8 grid will show on the screen with arrows point different direction, it’ll flash off then flash on and he’s to pick the arrow that’s changed direction. I could barely do it. The standards are just very high and they no longer look at age groups under the age of 12 unless they’re exceptional talent.

Sounds like Queens park might be throwing the babies out with the bath water.

At the end of 120mins on Saturday I was very disappointed with the performance of Celtic . I didn't see any individual players were any more to blame than others, except Yang who has never regained the form he had before he was blatantly dismissed wrongly v Hearts .
However we are in the S C final, just like Manchester Utd who year in year out are often amongst the biggest spending teams in the World . Utd drew with lowly Coventry who were last in EPL in 2001 . Utd struggling to win on penalties reminded me, something many may have forgotten, there is magic in the cup and strange unforeseen results often happen . Maybe Celtic like Manchester Utd suffered from the cup jinks and actually did well to win through.

Yang was playing on the right wing when he had his best spell.
It’s not the best excuse, with him back to playing poorly recently.

2.) 21 Apr 2024 22:10:45
Yang needs a seat on the bench and personally I'd be looking to loan him out next season.

At this stage of the season we have just one game that isn't vital . This weekend struggle against Aberdeen is certainly a game I want us to win but I won't be heart broken if we lose it . The cup and especially a Cup league double is always very nice to win . This season and the position we find ourselves in at the split means that. winning the cup alone would almost be an anti - climate
Let us get behind our team in Hampden where we have in recent yrs, despite it been a truly awful National Stadium, have been very successful, and let's hope for a 2nd appearance this season in May. The SPL is number one, the Scott Cup is number two .

Must win for me theyte a poor Aberdeen side . lose to them could halt momentum and let doubt creep in . also gives a potential party after title winning party.

2.) 17 Apr 2024 15:03:43
Celtic losing the Cup tie will put extra pressure on us to deliver the title because our rivals might then have the chance of a treble, if they qualify this weekend.

3.) 17 Apr 2024 16:03:28
Absolutely no way is the Scottish Cup less of a priority for me, and no way we should even be considering getting beat by this Aberdeen team who are just honking.
If we win the cup, either way it's better - either we win a league/ cup double or we stop them winning the treble, it's a no brainer!

4.) 17 Apr 2024 16:04:35
Must win for me just don't take it for granted.

5.) 17 Apr 2024 16:35:15
The title is by far more important than SC, I desperately want to win them both but the title this year is massive considering the riches at stake. If the title was to go elsewhere this season it could be a game changer, if it stays in Paradise the other mob will struggle to keep the lights on next season.

6.) 17 Apr 2024 16:56:02
We have struggled for a consistent string of wins for much of the season, mainly due to injuries to key players and a limited ability/ experience squad. Right now we are very close to a full strength team and decent bench who have in the majority been down this course before. BR needs to instill the belief and focus.

7.) 17 Apr 2024 18:27:33
A double means we would equal the amount of major honours won by both Ibrox clubs combined?.

8.) 17 Apr 2024 21:08:55
Bookies have Aberdeen to beat us than Hearts over them. Tells me bookies know they are easily parted from their cash. ?.

9.) 17 Apr 2024 22:42:13
Bookies tempting fools to part with money . Losing this yrs SPL would be the very worse sporting disaster I could imagine. Nothing not even losing to a v poor Aberdeen team could match it . I agree with many our team are in a good frame of mind and losing on Sat would destroy our momentum.
But Celtic are often used to heartbreak and I am sure BR could lift them for SPL
Hopefully we won’t need that, and we take care of Aberdeen and the final 5.

We shouldn’t judge Miovski on the way he has played against us . When playing for us he won’t come up against one half fit centre half . Instead when playing domestic football when the ball comes towards him he will have a blanket defence and any player trying to find him with a pass will also be tightly marked.
Having said that it looks like Miovski Idah and Kyogo would be a good front three and give BR options to be less predictable .
Limerick Celt . We can go into next season in Europe hopefully of improving our recent record . Individually and collectively we can play better, with some players better than our weaker players and better luck we can move ourselves up a notch and not finish bottom or 2nd bottom of our bigger group.

Jonbhoy 71 . I have no doubt that your post is accurate and plans are afoot to sign some players at a slightly higher price than recently . What I don’t expect is Celtic. Football club to really embark on a spending spree and spend about £40 on 7/ 8 players in the summer window . Maybe a bit over half of that on about
4/ 5 players .
Why I think our spending will be nearer £20m is that we have removed M L and his sidekick and not replaced them and we are now in last week of April .
If we are going to spend high with these positions vacant, then why would we fill them in future .
Nothing to do with your post Jonbhoy71 but I think just like the past few years there has been far too many posts between windows linking us with far too many players that are valued far exceeding our normal price range . These posts give us inflated expectations of what we can expect to buy during window and our disappointment is all the greater when we come up far short.

{Ed007's Note - I've also heard and read that Rodgers told the investors meeting that Palma doesn’t fit into his system or his style of play and doesn’t really have the skill-set he looks for in a wide player.
Lagerbielke has never impressed in training and that Nawrocki - who was actually only brought in as a squad player to back-up CCV & Starfelt - is never fully fit, no matter what the coaches do with him.}

Referees and VAR has removed tackling from our armour . We have to try to make opponents run into trouble, while they have no fears about tackling
BR wants us finishing with 11 men against opponents 13.

Maeda would be one of the first names I would put on team sheet, as we don’t know what to expect, he disrupts opponents all over pitch and can score or create out of nothing . Kyogo should be able to adopt to. BR tactics, but I think his main problem is that he isn’t making chances for himself and isn’t scoring from many chances, team are not feeding him as much, because he isn’t accurate enough . Cal McGregor is attracting closer marking than previous yrs and isn’t capable of freeing himself and contributing enough . A period of coming on near end may suit him better. I think that all 3 midfielders MO’R, Hatate and Cal form suffers, if one of them is off form . Hopefully an in form Iwata can lift form of Hatata and MO’R.

God help us if re are relying on only keeping MO’R, CCV and Johnston, first 2 are certainly capable enough but do their agents see them playing in the hoops next season. It could be a problem getting rid of all but 3 first team players and one or others then leave .
I am not sure about Johnston, he blows hot and cold, in my book totally to blame for the last 2 goals Rangers2012 scored against us recently . They were allowed all the time in the world to place cross where they wanted . I think AJ puts too much effort in the first 60-70 mins and then isn’t capable of defending properly at end . Teams who make massive changes take the most of a season at least to gell and would find it hard to retain SPL.

Sure Shankland has done nothing against Rangers2012 and shouldn’t win award . Tav and Butland are nominated but neither have contributed any more than a small fraction of baby Dallas on VAR and Beaton with whistle.

Although we have a small playing pool available BR has a choice to make every week and he usually gets it right and so he should as he sees his players at training every week . With the use of 5 substitutes per match, the use of substitutes is very important this season and sometimes BR may be holding back a player as he hopes he can do a good job during last 30 mins.
