You cannot disagree.

Looking at other selections, I realise it must be an age thing, because unless you seen him, I do not think people know just how good Bobby Murdoch was.

Also, Lennox was phenomenal.

APcelt

Apparently Helenio Herrera said after the European Cup Final let’s talk about the player who’s the best in the world in his position at the present Bobby Murdoch.

It’s fantastic when you hear the discussion across older and younger generations of supporters. When I’m raving about Paul McStay there’s an older gentleman in my local in Coatbridge who always says you didn’t see Bobby Murdoch.

I had Boruc in my best ever Celtic X1 but it was a toss up between him and Simpson. Simpson was athletic and agile and a great shot stopper. He was also fearless and gave his centre half (McNeill) and sweeper (John Clark) confidence. The only reason I went for Boruc was that he was all that Simpson was but he was also spontaneous - he could react to bizarre moments - like the Telfer back-pass/ header which I don't reckon Simpson could do.

I was also had Nicholas in as the left midfielder but it could also could have been Lennox. The thing Lennox had over Nicholas was that he was that fast he could head in his own crosses.

Murdoch was an unbelievable footballer, every part of his game was nearly perfect and on top of that he had some patience as wee Jimmy dribbled round and round and when finally chopped down, Jimmy insisted on getting a short free kick as he said he can’t chop me down again .
For fullbacks, I think Tom Boyd and Danny Mc Grain as they could both play right back and left back . The saddest case was big George Connolly who was immaculate but really had hardly half a career.

{Ed007's Note - What about Davie Hay, where does he rank as a player with you more mature/cantankerous posters? I was amazed today to read that he became Celtic manager when he was only 35 and considering I was 9/10 at the time he looked ancient to me! He reminded me of the guy out of Only When I Laugh (James Bolam) that was on TV at the time.}

David Hay was a fantastic footballer who played in nearly every position on the pitch, probably best at right back or centre half . He was very close to big George Connolly and maybe big Jock thought separating them may have helped George and his demon . Alas opposite was true . Big Jock looked after players salaries and he didn’t seem to like players looking for increases . A lot of Celtic fans felt Jock was too quick to move players on and we always thought KD, LM McC. and DH all left us far too soon, as did many of Lisbon Lions.
