Young roccoVata is there a reason he's chosen to play for Ireland? And not Scotland or Albania as I believe he was born in Scotland and grew up here but doesn't seem to have played at any level for Scotland what's his connection with Ireland.

Kd

There was a comment here that he was Irish but I was led to believe he was born in Scotland his mother is also Scottish and his maternal grandmother was Irish and obviously his dad is Albanian. Consequently he’s eligible to represent three countries.

{Ed007's Note - You're spot on, JFP, Rocco was born (I''ll get to that) and grew up in Hamilton, about 10 mins from me, I see him at Mass with his mum - who is in charge of the Chapel hall - sometimes.
There are reports that Vata's actually eligible to play for FOUR different countries, they say that he is eligible to play for Scotland, Albania and Ireland but that he was actually born in Montenegro which makes him eligible to play for them.
How accurate that is I really don't know.}

He was born and reared in Dublin to an Irish mother, and some boy from Eastern Europe or somewhere took advantage of the innocent Irish girl.

{Ed007's Note - No he wasn't.}

I believe his mother is irish, not sure why he has chosen ireland, I'm guessing ireland were the 1st to call him up, or maybe feels he has more chance of playing at a world cup with ireland.
He's definitely got potential so let's hope contract talks are ongoing.

{Ed007's Note - His mother is from Hamilton.}

Kdog1984,

young master Vata lives 5min along the road from me.

Whilst I don't know his family well at all, I believe his grandmother on his Mums side, may have been born in Ireland.

In terms of why did he choose Ireland, perhaps after weighing it up he thought he could get more minutes playing for the Republic at this time as opposed to Scotland, and given the political issues that still exist in Albania, that was a non starter.

Having spoken to an Albanian man, just a few weeks ago, who knows Rudi Vata well, and who also fled the country around the same time, as a young teenager, when several of his family and friends were murdered by the state, he spoke openly of several of the old regime still holding positions of power in the current set up.

Baring in mind his Mikey Johnson also chose the Republic of Ireland over Scotland.

Thanks was just surprised that he didn’t have cap from Scotland at youth level . I think mj has only chosen Ireland as he knows he would find it easier to get a senior cap with them over Scotland .

I think it's pretty obvious - His name is really Rocc O'Vata.

{Ed007's Note - Vata let the whole of Hamilton down by wearing gloves yesterday! You can tell he's from the snobby bit up beside Ped ?

Well glad we settled that. when's he signing a new contract? He was head and shoulders above the other development lads when I watched them recently though the big centre halfs looked luke they may have potential.

I have to apologise there is no doubt he was born in Scotland.
I remember clearly Dublin papers saying he was born in Dublin with an Irish mother . Clearly these papers hadn’t done their homework right and hadn’t checked their facts . Not a bit wonder Irish football is as bad as it is if they are fighting over players like Rocco
Sorry again.

No apologies necessary CC, the papers rarely let the facts get in the way of a good story ?

{Ed007's Note - I was also disappointed that he didn't speak in our native "Neddish" but you can hear that it was there in the past ?

What happened to my ‘As we Know’ Rodgers post regarding offside penalty before Celtic Calling distracted us all with fables of innocent Irish Colleens being taking advantage of by Eastern European ex- Celtic players?
