I think today's poll could've been expanded slightly, ie:

Will Deila's success be based on how well he does in Europe?

a) League only;
b) Domestic Cups only;
c) Europe only;
d) League + Cups;
e) League + Europe;
f) Europe + Cups.

Personally, I'll measure his success based on competitiveness in Europe + Cup Final appearances and/or wins!

{Ed001's Note - sorry, it is difficult to expand a yes or no question! The polls of the day are really limited because of it, but finding questions for all of the sites takes up so much of my time we had to find a way to speed up adding them to the sites. Would you like me to set that as a normal poll?}

HB, unless we invest BIG there is no way we can compete in Europe. Let him be judged on the style and the way he gets our beloved Hoops to play. Domestically I think he will demand we win the Treble but as for qualifying for the CL we will have to see who we draw. He will demand a better showing than we gave last campaign. Hail Hail

Exactly - you have to look at everything. You have to give him time to implement his ideas, but we have to be fair. As I said previously, I hope he guts the whole youth set up, for years we have been bringing through players who end in the lower leagues, That's the young lad Miller away to Morton today, (Mikey, not Calvin) but something doesn't add up. Why can we not produce a player that could play for any of the huge clubs? Every other big club in Europe can produce them, we spend a fortune on the academy, although maybe we don't spend as much as others. Personally I think the coaching and application is very average! Another worry for me is the size of the squad, it is huge, especially with Watt/Rogic/Irvine/Mcgregor etc etc all returning from loans. We have far too many numbers, no where near enough quality. Neil Lennon has to take the blame for this, along with Park and Lawwell.

Hi edd and all not been on for a wee while, partly because the chat was getting a tad bitchy lol and partly because end of season/close season can be very repetitive. First off a speedy recovery timbo the site needs guys like you. Nxt a farewell Neil can't believe you tolerated things so long. Welcome Ronnie I'm sure your not naive enough not too know the enormity of the task ahead. Anyway the reason I've jumped back in is the previous post from Paul struck a cord in regards to the depth and quality of the squad, I believe we won't spend that's a given but Ithink this appointment is because of this, heres a guy who could streamline things and improve from within, heres hoping, just my humble opinion

Absolutely Thommy - I was just reading the Sutton article a minute ago, is it not terrifying that Celtic have only produced 2 strikers who have represented club/country in 25 years(Charlie Nic/Maloney) Nicholas was top drawer, Maloney is a good player. If I was involved at Boardroom/senior level I would be asking McCart/McIntyre/Frail and all the rest what is going on, why are we constantly producing 2nd rate players. I wouldn't include Kennedy, but the perception that we have a great academy is a perception - the rest of the academies in Scotland are so bad it's making us look good. I said recently that Southampton have brought through Bale/Walcott/Shaw/Lallana/Oxlade-Chamberlain/Chalmers in the last few years - £200 million of talent, they aren't even a top club. I hope he guts the place - all the top clubs in Europe bring through world class players, we bring through players worth a couple of hundred grand, it's a disgrace!

Well said Paul, the problem is we pander for signings but our ceiling is 2.5m or there abouts and what does that get you a gamble like the Dutch pretender.then you have commons for300g and does us a turn, we all know his limitations but for that investment its money well spent. We can't spend 6-7 m for real quality so why risk the funds we have it's time to invest what we have in young players we can put time and effort into on the training field because we as a club can't compete with minnows in other leagues when in comes too wages and transfer fees so why try, youth is the only way forward for us I think, so let's hope ronnies appointment is a sign were going down this route

From 2006-07 to 2012-13 we've reached the Last 16 on three occasions, why can't we make that more consistent? Why can we not compete in the Group Stages to at least get the Europa League spot? I don't buy the "we're out our depth" or "just be happy to reach the Group Stages" propaganda! It's time the club and our supporters shift this wee club fever / mentality and start acting like a global brand again!

Apologies Ed, just noticed the note at the bottom. Aye please, could you setup a normal poll to see how others feel they'd measure his performance?

{Ed007's Note - I'll get that set up HB.}
