Evening ed, just been messing about on YouTube watching some old footage of really really skilful players from my fav era i.e hagi., stoichkov, Baggio, right up until now and I can't see anybody in my opinion who was skilfully on a par with ronaldinho, do you and my fellow readers have anyone in mind from these periods in time cheers

{Ed007's Note - Gabriel Batistuta, the Angel Gabriel is one of the best strikers in history, 300 goals in 516 matches and 56 in 78 for Argentina. I was also a huge Lothar Matthaus fan, Emilio Butragueno and Hugo Sanchez was my favourite Real Madrid players when I was younger before Raul came along and Predrag Mijatovic was some player as well. I could talk all night about old players lol.}

Know what you mean, Lombardo, zidane, okocha was class Romario, rival do was awesome aye could go on right enough my boy always on about messi ( we won't go there ) told him go look at players that I can clearly render from 1982 onwards, have to say the greatest I've ever seen has to be maradonna ( unbelievable )

{Ed007's Note - I agree with you about Maradona, he's the best player ever to play the game, nobody comes even close to him imo.}

Ronaldinho for me too falkirk. I'm guessing I'm younger than a lot on here but his individual brilliance was/is second to none for me. ZZ being another fairly obvious one. Never reached the level of the players you menchioned but Jay Jay Okocha, some tricks that lad pulled off, my goodness. There's got to be a good compilation of him somewhere. Bergkamp being another, was behind the goal when he turned Dabizas, first and only time I've seen people around me applaud an opponents goal.

Zidane was some player had the pleasure of being right in line of his hampden goal, Rudd Guillit was another had the pleasure of telling him this (in London) he asked me where I was from and told him Paisley he informed me that he had played in Love St only to be spat at in the face as he was leaving the park! he felt it was racial, George Weah at his peak but plus marks too Hagi, Matthaus too think the purest would take someone who thrill/skill rather than pace any day , Although not in there league would have adored to see Lubo in a Celtic shirt 5 years ago oddly enough ZZ said he was the best no. 10 he had ever seen if a remember?

Here a thread from it on our topical new coach the last two who were "strange" appointments were Dr Jo and Wim the Tim and they gave us Lubo and Henrik . no pressure then RD lol all the very best in your new quest HH

The player who always sticks in my mind is the baldy Bulgarian Letchkov. Brilliant midfielder, who's headed goal against Germany in the world cup in 1994 was fantastic! Just one of those players who very rarely put a foot wrong and just got on with it.

No one has mentioned the mighty Archie Gemmil yet

Ok answer me this if you can . How come all the greatest players skill wise were nt tall ie, maradona, hagi, lubo, gascoinge, jinky, etc etc low centre gravity? Practice, or just a god given talent we were able to witness

{Ed007's Note - They have a low centre of gravity. A footballer, with a low centre of gravity, can run about changing direction, accelerating and decelerating more easily whilst still maintaining his balance. Have a read at this. That should explain it better.}

@falkirkbhoy I agree mate. Messi and Ronaldo have the stats on their side but Ronaldinho was the best player to watch for me. Almost every game he did something that just beggared belief and the main thing is he did it with a smile on his face. He just loved playing football. The ultimate showman! Although Zidane wasn't far behind.

Might be a lot of Rafael Shidte, but I'm sure I've seen a quote from Ronaldinho saying he would love to play for us one day. Surely a deal like that would pay for it's self through merchandise and exposure in South America. Could it ever happen? I wish lol.
For me the greatest ever is the original Ronaldo, totally unplayable during his time at Barca and Inter. Even at Madrid when he put on the weight he was awsome. He would be closely followed by Zidane and Ronaldinho.

Loving the old player talk tonight. For me Ronny was best ave seen at parkhead with barca, prozneski near him with Zagreb walkin about with fag one hand drink the other nutmeging folk, my fave from football Italia days was the wee cf ruban Sousa at inter. Plus big Mark was a joy when he was not stressed out his nut and in oz

A man I can remember watching when I was growing up (not technically gifted, but his headering ability was out of this world) was Oliver Bierhoff. Especially his time at Udinese! Back in the days when Football Italia with James Richardson (sitting in wee cafés in different Italian cities every week, reviewing the Italian sports pages, etc) was on Ch4.
