There’s a big variation in wages at Brighton.

I read that Lallana and Dunk get £90K and £80K a week but their keeper and Gilmour only get £20K a week.

It’s been mentioned that Brighton are the best run club in Europe.

Classic example,
Celtic could afford the transfer fee for the Croatian keeper but we couldn’t afford the salary he will get in Turkey.

The poor Scotland TV deal is a factor why we can’t compete with other European clubs.
Holland recently signed a new TV deal that’s 4.5 times better than the Scottish TV deal.

Brighton are a seriously well run club, probably one of the best in europe, with one of the best coaches in europe. Their model of buying cheap, nurturing youngsters and selling them for staggering profits is similar to ours only of a bigger scale. The lad ferguson is a frightening talent for an 18 year old and will possibly earn them 200m in a year or 2 if he keeps going the way he is.

Celtic could have afforded both the fee and wages, Buzz. One of the biggest excuses our fans make for the club's lack of ambition with wages is disharmony in the squad, yet you've just mentioned a 400% disparity between 2 starters for a team that's playing unbelievable football and just hammered Man Utd at Old Trafford.

{Ed007's Note - I don't buy into all that stuff about it would cause unrest in the changing room if certain players earn more than others, it happens at every club - including Celtic - and when was the last time there was even rumours about any club where situations like that have arisen?}

still impressive for 20 mill buzz. i get what your saying mate. if wee could pay a bit more wages then we would have better quality in our squad also regardless of the low fee paid.

You’re right United Ireland it’s very impressive.

Your also right Kev, that Celtic could afford the keepers wages but not under our strict wage cap. ?.

I've made the point on here a couple of times Ed. If there was going to be unrest due to wages then we would have it now because there's no way some of our starting XI players aren't on 2, 3, 4 times less than their teammates.

{Ed007's Note - Exactly ?

Surely a tiered payment system based on team standing can only be a good thing to encourage improvement and progression. someone will always pay more somewhere but we need to stay competitive and pay more to less players has to be the way ahead.

{Ed007's Note - I've been saying it for years, I have no problem with the money we spend but it could and should be spent more wisely.}

I know bonuses are probably offered like this but I agree offering a weekly wage increase based on performances actually tied into an existing contract makes sense. It should be offered to every player we sign all relative to initial package.

This notion that we can't afford these players wages is absolute nonsense, we could of easily afforded to sign tete and the Croatian gk, for example Jota cost us around 14-15m for two years service which include lone fee, transfer fee, sell on fee, signing fee and wages. Tete is on around £53,000 a week in Turkey, for two years he would of cost us around 5m in wages with a signing fee maybe taking in to around the 6m mark, it's a no brainer, in my opinion he's a better player than jota, also with a potential transfer of 20m plus which we would of gotten the whole amount.
Our singing policy and wage structure will never move us forward. It needs a serious overhaul.

Brighton are light yrs ahead of us when we look at their TV money and sponsorship. Their buying cheap and low wages would be closer to us buying dear and dearer wages.
I don’t think we should start a transfer window with a fixed upper wage limit set We will know what we expect our maximum over all wage limit should be but we shouldn’t tie ourselves to individual limits . If a player is available to us and the only thing preventing us signing is a pre determined max wage, I think we should examine that policy and see can we not find way round it . It’s difficult to get people who will greatly benefit us interested in coming and we need to do everything to get him . Our captain as he progresses through his 30’s is not a fair maximum wage target.
