Interesting reading the comments on here and the rangers site re the winter break brought forward, st Mirren game, winning the league this season etc.

I didn't get a chance to see wednesdays game but when you look at the statistics 8th hard to see how the bhoys didn't win. Football however is a funny old game - i'm reminded of the 2019 league cup final which was the beginning of our quadruple treble. In all honesty it was a game we never should have won, big Foster was the man of the match. Rangers played us of the park and history records a 1-0 victory to us. Thank God wednesday was an inconvenience and not a cup final.

I definitely would not consider myself a bigot but i am definitely biased in celtics favour so yes i agree with the winter break coming early as it gives some of our injuries a chance to clear up, bed in some new players before the league resumes. Strange that supporters of all teams don't think like this. Of corse the other reasons like fans at the game etc are also perfectly valid but don't efect me personally and because Im particularly busy at weekends it has been years since i was at a game.

Can celtic win the league this year: of course they can and i hope they do. Interesting if we look at the teams of the 2019 league cup final - with rangers all starting 11 are still at the club and play regularly, apart from a couple of long term injuries whereas only three of celtics starters are still at the club. For me its obvious that a team which has been playing together consistently for 2+ years shoul be ahead in the league at this point but as Ange's team get more and more used to each other i would hope that they kick on in the new year an win the league.

Well it looks like Hampden is going to be green and white on the 19th of December.

I know donjim I'm as gutted as the next man that we have play an extra game more than them!

Some of those Cabbage players were great tonight - showed just how to hang onto a lead.

Game on greens - game on.

It has been an interesting week! Group stages of europa league, beaten by the rangers but honestly this did not surprise me and then as many have said a good window.

On sunday i hoped Celtic would beat the rangers and now I hope these new players gel and a team is formed capable of taking back the title. Things look promising but over the years so many promising players haven't turned up for us.

We have lost three great players in this window in Ajer, Edoard and Christie and I wish them all the best in the future. Are we now stronger, I really don't know but I hope so. We certainly have a better manager in my opinion so that gives me confidence for this season.

The three players you mentioned didn't want to be here so good riddance now we can start the charge in earnest now with players who actually want to be here all on decent contracts too.

2.) 01 Sep 2021 12:50:12
What you say is true Marco but I'm pretty positive that the three players I mentioned wanted to be here when they signed. As i said in original post i am full of confidence and hope for this year but ghe fact that someone wants to be here isn't enough for me. Who wanted to be here more than Duffy last year. My point was that 3 grat players left and those that came in have to prove themselves. I am hopeful as new players at start of window are great.

I know we can still win the cup and give Broony another trophy for his impressive haul but I'd rather give him some of our youth players on loan so that they can continue their development under the watchful eye of Broony. He can get them ready to challenge for the starting eleven. Must say Im looking forward to next season even if a little apprehensive with regards to recruitment. On the bright side can't see thjngs being any worse than this year ( hope that doesn't come back to bite me)

I am certainly looking forward to this season ending. I will wait and see who the manager is before i tell you if i am looking forward to next season.

Looking forward to next season. New players to watch, new manager and a new era. I will be there with my green tinted specs on regardless of who the manager is.

Don't know how long I've known about this site, which I read for years daily before eventually beginning to occasionally post. Was thinking that the site is more anonymous than an AA meeting. At a meeting you may not know a friends name but you can see how old he is, whether male or female, you can guess a little bit to social status or economic stability helped by how he is dressed, type of car he drives etc. Even his accent can help place him geographically and there are other markers for sure.

Why did i say this? Because in here all I have is a type of nickname and nothing else to work with to create a mental picture. In a way it's good as it stops me from judging when i read opinions that i don't agree with as it could be written by a young teenager who can't even remember the last tme Celtic lost the league and therefore finds the idea of being runnerup unthinkable.

I am the wrong side of 60 and have experienced it all, good and bad. I grew up when my only contact with celtic was reading the reports of the games in the mainstream press or the celtic view, listening to matches on radio and occasionally getting across to Paradise with my old man or seeing a game on tv. Now with streaming i rarely miss a game. I think that whilst i love being able to watch celtic it has taken away some of the mystery and magic of listening to a game on the radio or checking how the game is going with teletext.

Over the years i have read a lot of anti-Lawell, anti-Lennon etc and whilst I agree their time has come I can honestly say that in my opinion no Celtic team has achieved what Celtic achieved under Lawell. We have had great teams, better than the invincibles in my opinion, who achieved little. We look about the team today and think they should be better because they are worth millions and bring a good profit when sold etc but is there any of our starting eleven who would have gotten into the Lisbon Lions team, the Quality Street gang or even more recently Martin O'Niells team?

A bunch of inferior players have achieved 9 in a row, a scottish invincible year (all competions) , a quadruple treble and all on Lawell's watch. I have to be honest and say that if i were neutral I would be glad Celtic imploded this year as they have taken the magic out of football. Is there anything magical now in winning a treble which until 5 years ago was like the holy grail? In every other league it is boring watching Juve, PSG, Bayern etc always win and i'm sure for the neutrals also Celtic winning everything was boring.

This has been a bad season for us all round but it can help to take away complacency or a feeling that we have some sort of divine right to always win. Paradise is no longer a fortress. The team needs a complete overhaul. don't think i will long enough to see any of our records broken. Celtic have brought us to the heights and as a consequence the fall has been hard and fast but we start again next season. COYBIG.

Totally agree donjim and I'm closer to 60 than I am a teenager. HH.

Must say I was half expecting Anne Robinson to make a post on this thread. If I think back, as someone else has said, anyone of our players could at some stage or other been considered the weakest link. It is true that at the moment the backline is weakest but ceertainly since Jow Hart came in that has been changing. In the game against hearts Celtic had 74% possession with 19 shots but only 7 were on target resulting in 1 goal for Anthony Ralston. Perhaps the forwards are the weakest links because if they scored with their shots the fact that hearts got two goals wouldn't have mattered as we would have scored more. Interesting that our goal came from a defender that until his recent performances most would have considered not good enough for Celtic.

Agree with you Corey that NL's departure was overdue but better late than never. I believe he finally realized that he wasn't the man to turn things around. I am glad he resigned rather than being sacked as I hate the way things are going, particularly in football with managers not really being given a chance and getting sacked within monthesof their appointment. I know this is not the case here but I am glad he chose to resign.
Agree also that he should be thanked for his services to Celtic both as a player and a manager he can hold his head up. Both appointments as manager came at difficult moments with the departures of Mowbray and Rogers and I don't think he did too bed until things unravelled this season.
This is a strange season without fans etc and the effects can be seen around europe with various teams one would expect to be winning easily being upstaged such as Liverpool but also Juve who are going for 10 in a row this year (and are still in a position to do it) are 8 points behind Inter.
I just hope Celtic don't rush an appointment and get the right man for the job as he will have to do some rebuilding and get the players who want to stay on board and also win over the celtic fans who are not the easiest to please.

There are bombscares all over the pitch it's just that general opinion is that if a defender makes a mistake which costs us a goal and ultimately the match we are all over him even though in the same game 2 or 3 sinners missed by a forward are overlooked. We never think that it was the 3 mistakes of the forwards which cost us.

The first £1m player Trevor Francis was over 40 years ago now so although possibly not as good as Francis honestly I don't think £3m is too much at todays price for a tested player and not sa prospect. Considering we spent £5 for Scheidt over 20 years ago the price tag doesn't look too bad.

The one thing going against him is that we don't seem to fortunate when we spend money on players whose surnames begin with "B" ie Bangura £2.2m ; Boerrigter £3m ; Balde (almost £2m if I remember right) and of course also Barkas has proved to be another expensive flop beginning with "B" ;-) that said if Ange likes him I don't think £3 is too much by todays inflated prices.

Agree with this post Buzz as I believe man for man we have the better players but we also had the better players last year and lost by a country mile.

A team for me is the best all round unit not necessarily the better players. Celtic are getting there the more the bhoys play together but the various injuries have not helped the blending of these individuals who just a few months ago didn't know each other into a team. Rangers on the other hand have been pretty much the same for several years now, because they don't have the money to bring in new players and also the fact that their players are priceless and therefore not even the PSG's of this world can afford them. Rangers are also undoubtedly playing better under their new manager.

Now after the january window more players have to be blended into our team and scottish culture, weather etc, so whilst I agree that Celtic are good enough to win the leaague this season (and I believe they will) it is not a foregone conclusion as some on here think and will be a hell of an achievement if Ange manages to pull it off in his first season.
