Seen wee paddy Roberts is staying for the final good wee boost for us, I'm hoping this is a sign that he will be staying long term and a deal has been agreed, I can but wish.

Wee1888

1.) 05 May 2017 22:20:22
Maybe he's going to sign and that's the big announcement in cup final week 👀🙏.

2.) 05 May 2017 23:19:04
Now you reign it in that optimisim 😀.

3.) 06 May 2017 10:00:27
Defo we 1888 it could be a little hint that playing for Celtic is what he wants 🍀.

4.) 06 May 2017 10:02:01
The big announcement is said to be Armstrong signing a new long term contract.

5.) 06 May 2017 11:23:37
Paddy did say he felt at home here with Celtic!

6.) 06 May 2017 08:32:42
Ed how does this work in Roberts situation? can we try n convince him to stay outside the transfer window? Would that not be considered tapping up? N how come Liverpool only got banned from signing development players when they got caught tapping up the other day? Pretty sure Barcelona got banned from signing anyone for a bit for the same crime.

{Ed007's Note - We can talk to him about the specifics of a contract if we have gained permission from City which doesn't mean a fee has been agreed, a lot of players and their agents hold talks with other clubs before any financial offer is made to their parent club. City know we are hoping to entice Roberts and they wouldn't have any problems with us talking to the player about it.
Liverpool have a history of tapping up players and have been in trouble for it before, there's a 16 year old left back from Fulham called Ryan Sessegnon that Fulham are refusing to even talk to Liverpool about because of their conduct.
Barca were found guilty of repeatedly breaking transfer regulations regarding youngsters, it wasn't just tapping up.
FIFA rules state that international transfers are only permitted for players over the age of 18 - unless the individual players meets one of three qualifying criteria.

Under-18s can move to a club in a different country if their parents move there for non-footballing reasons, if they are from another nation within the European Union or European Economic Area and aged between 16 and 18, or if they live within 100km of the club.

7.) 06 May 2017 13:29:26
Cheers.

{Ed007's Note - (yes)

16 Jan 2017 21:33:40
Anyone know anything about this 22 year old bhoy from Portugal we are looking at?

Wee1888

1.) 16 Jan 2017 22:32:55
He doesn't look particularly impressive on YouTube which is rare.

2.) 16 Jan 2017 23:49:21
Who is he?

02 Jan 2017 20:00:33
Ed have you had any information passed to yourself concerning any January signings? We done well last January with Paddy Roberts and Erik the Viking, another two signings of this quality in the window I would be happy.

Wee1888

{Ed001's Note - if you reply to this I will hold the message for Ed007, so he can give you what he knows as well, but, as he is not about at the moment I will give you what I know. That is that you are after a keeper, as you were in for Vito Mannone before Pickford picked up an injury. That deal is now gone for January, I would assume there will be other options being looked at, but I don't know who they are.}

1.) 03 Jan 2017 08:41:26
Glad to here that as personally think Mannone is a total bombscare.

21 Aug 2016 19:09:43
I see we are being linked with James McCarthy from Everton for £5 million.

Wee1888

1.) 21 Aug 2016 19:25:01
5 million! Aye right then. think u can add a 2 in front of the 5 and u mite be a bit closer to what he would cost!

2.) 21 Aug 2016 19:44:49
Saw that as well mate, stormed out yesterday apparently, 5 mill would b a steal.

3.) 21 Aug 2016 19:52:08
Appently he stormed out of the stadium after being subbed off yesterday and only has a year to run on his contract, will be on a fortune as a weekly wage but could happen if he wants to come back up the road.

4.) 21 Aug 2016 19:58:22
Has been told he's no place at Everton. Only playing just now covering for Coleman at right (wing) back because he's out.

5.) 21 Aug 2016 19:59:10
Sad that he was a player we could have bought for half of the 5 million years ago.

Just can't see this one but some great rumours the last few days.

6.) 21 Aug 2016 19:59:23
This rumour seems to be picking up a bit of momentum,
He is not getting on with Koemen by all accounts and left the stadium early after being subbed. Don't think we can afford him and is he what we need? I know he is a big big Celtic man so we would not need to convince him to come!

7.) 21 Aug 2016 20:07:12
Agree with him being a supporter part gaz just can't see him wanting to come back to scottish football at this early stage of his career can honestly see him ending up at someone like west ham we're arsenal not interested as well.

8.) 21 Aug 2016 20:33:31
Listen lads this ain't happening he is on 70K a week and if leaves Everton will have plenty of premiership teams chasing Arsenal being 1. Maybe in a few years he may come to Celtic but not now.

9.) 21 Aug 2016 20:49:35
He won't be short of offers if Everton do sell him! Either way I would expect him to be in the EPL next season.

10.) 21 Aug 2016 21:11:08
I think the closer we get to ten in a row we might attract bigger and bigger names.

11.) 21 Aug 2016 22:18:59
Not saying any of this is true but he's been in England for 7 years maybe he wants to come home and win trophies with the club he supports.

12.) 21 Aug 2016 21:22:23
He's on 50k per week and under contract until 2020. Nearly the whole Everton team are on 40/ 50k per week, except Barry and Lukaku who are on around 60 and 80k. He's been poor for over a year now, I've also never seen him having a good game for Ireland - even Keane and O'Neil have hinted he's not fit enough, and pulls out with knocks that proper players would play with. He was good initially under Martinez, Spurs etc were interested, like I said though he's done nothing since, he's also only really done it under Martinez! Why does Koeman not fancy him? The lad from Villa that just got relegated has walked straight into the team before him! For me he's decent all round but not great at anything. He's not physical like a Wanyama or Kante, he's not a great passer, and his goal scoring record is a disgrace! He's a 2 goal a season man! Most centre halfs score more than that!

13.) 21 Aug 2016 21:33:07
and why would bigger names be interested in ten in a row? It's CL football and massive wages the bigger players want! They don't care about 10 in a row!

14.) 21 Aug 2016 21:41:22
i don't think he will have lots of offers

his promise has diminished

he has not developed at a rapid rate

he is doing very well at £70k a week but i think it will be down hill from here

he won't be getting £70k elsewhere and I am prepared to bet on that

hes decent …noting more. nothing less…and also very slow for someone so young.

15.) 21 Aug 2016 22:42:07
This time tomorrow it will be Snodgrass. What will be will be gents.

16.) 22 Aug 2016 01:37:40
Stan i'd prefer snoddgrass but if Mccarthy comes up here for less money and wants to win trophies I'd take him in a minute.

17.) 22 Aug 2016 08:33:14
No happening.

18.) 22 Aug 2016 08:50:16
Heaney i'd take both, If we can't get Roberts to sign a permanent deal then Snodgrass should be our target. I rate McCarthy and on his day would walk into our midfield.

19.) 22 Aug 2016 08:50:30
The kind of team I want has no room for him. £5m would get us a better player from Europe or anywhere than the hyper inflated prices and wages England pays for guys like McCarthy.

I have never watched him and hoped he played for us. Not once, so no way for me. Every £ is a prisoner for us and 5million of them then wages is far to much for a player who doesn't have a game changing level of skill.

20.) 22 Aug 2016 13:46:36
It's not Snodgrass.

21.) 22 Aug 2016 14:52:02
Would rather snodgrass than that grass Wallace.

22.) 22 Aug 2016 16:41:41
Mccarthy and snodgrass are two completely different players our need is for a CM player and I think Mccarthy would cruise it up here in there with brown and Bitton.

20 Jun 2015 07:22:30
Ed any news on the Chilean or was that just a load of paper talk rubbish?

Wee1888

{Ed007's Note - The rumour going round is that Juan Delgado will fly in when the team reports for pre-season next week but I'm not 100% convinced. I have a sneaky suspicion that there are some people using the name of CFC to force another club (Wolfsburg) to play their hand.}

1.) 20 Jun 2015 21:30:38
Cheers ed. the whole thing with South Americans coming to the uk direct from over there always sounds and ends up a bit iffy

2.) 20 Jun 2015 22:11:28
Is this guy any good ED.

{Ed007's Note -

3.) 20 Jun 2015 22:34:19
why do players rarely come to britain straight from over ther? mainly going to the portugese league (making quite a bit of money for the clubs they join) is it to do with language less of a climate change better scouting from their league or do we just not want to take the risk?

{Ed007's Note - It's mainly to do with work permits.}

4.) 21 Jun 2015 01:52:00
Cheers ed

5.) 21 Jun 2015 04:10:05
Thanks ed

6.) 21 Jun 2015 11:54:34
Looks a player but can't see it happening as ed said work permit issues,

7.) 21 Jun 2015 12:21:07
The leagues in Spain and Portugal seem to show more leniency in terms of work permits which usually means they can pick up a bargain and sell on at a huge profit. Hulk, Falcao, James and now Jackson Martinez will probably be the next one. We're really missing out IMO.

8.) 21 Jun 2015 11:46:17
Ed again with some nice info. Always keeping it to yourself though unless probed ;)

Vossen this morning saying he'd be up for coming to Celtic. If we got Vossen and Delgado I think I'd be reasonably happy.

Probably been talked over a thousand times but would just be interested to know what everyones thoughts are on what positions we need to strengthen and what stage of development a player needs to be to bring us on to the next level.

Wee1888

1.) 08 May 2018 19:18:55
First of, get Roberts and edy signed permanently. Gk, 2central defenders and a right back are an absolute must. Depending on weather Armstrong, rogic or Sinclair leave these will need replaced also.
I'd love to see him stay but I can't see dembele here next season and John mcginn would be a top signing also.

2.) 08 May 2018 20:58:25
personally i think BR does not need to sign players for the spl, unless there is a significant buying spree buy other spl teams, which is highly unlikely. BR does need to but a certain type and for certain positions for Cl/ El run.

I would like us to be spending at least 20 mil, and sell a few at few mill profit.

Looking forward to new signing and hope we get some quality, what BR buys now is for the run in of 10IAR. Hail Hail.

3.) 08 May 2018 22:56:20
Sign Édouard, but I wouldn't bother with Roberts unless the price was reasonable, Dembelle is the most important one, he will make the difference in Europe, I hope he stays.

12 Jul 2017 19:35:29
The type of midfielder he is buying looks like pure power through the middle of the park, can't be a bad thing let's the flair players play.

Wee1888

30 Jun 2017 19:37:54
Seen an interview there with the new lad Benyu, he is saying that he got the call about Celtic during the cup final, just shows the Papers know nothing about or transfer dealings as it came out quite quick, in thinking this means there is a few irons in the fire and more signings we have no clue about are on route.

Wee1888

1.) 30 Jun 2017 21:58:41
The youngster has real promise. Should have plenty of chances to shine this season.

2.) 01 Jul 2017 09:35:00
What position is he.

3.) 01 Jul 2017 16:23:48
Box to box midfielder from what I have read wyllie67.

25 Jun 2017 12:37:12
I have a feeling that teirney is going to get moved forward this season in to a more attacking position, there has been a lot of talk about a left back coming in and that's the only reason I can see why we would buy one as izzy is sitting as back up, any thoughts on this.

Wee1888

{Ed007's Note - Why would you want to play one of the best young players in Europe out of position? What's next, Dembele at CB and Sinclair anchoring the midfield?}

1.) 25 Jun 2017 13:18:49
Ed if you read my post I never claimed to want to play KT at left back, just have a feeling that it might be Brendan Rogers plans for him because of the rumours about left backs coming in particularly the lad from Leeds and holland, at Liverpool Rogers tried this with a few young players, and it never done Bale any harm,

{Ed007's Note - And they called it 'getting Brendaned' at Liverpool when he done stupid things like that. So you really think Rodgers is considering changing the position of one of the best young prospects in Europe that top clubs would all love to sign to play in that position? If he does he should be sacked for gross stupidity.
And Gareth Bale was honking as a LB, absolutely honking.}

2.) 25 Jun 2017 13:44:26
Ed007 I agree don't move your best players out their position but I am sure I read Tierney played quite regularly on left side midfield at development level did he Not?

{Ed007's Note - Probably, players play in all different positions at those levels.}

3.) 25 Jun 2017 13:45:03
A lot of talk right enough, I'd imagine that you could count on two hands tops the people who know the real situation. Rodgers and Davies, Lawell and Congerton Desmond and a handful of agents. Meanwhile the papers link us with every player available. I'd imagine we'll find out more in the next month. KT will be a revelation in Europe this year and the money we will be offered for him will test his resolve to stay for 10IAR. I think he could do a job on LW but why bother when Sinclair is there and Tierney puts in the best possible shift at LB every time.

4.) 25 Jun 2017 14:14:22
That would mean taking sinclair out of his natural position to accommodate a player not in his favoured pos, can't see it myself.

5.) 25 Jun 2017 14:14:34
no point playing players out of position e.g. Armstrong at him now playing where he should be. I think with Toure left, I think he has identified that position to be strengthened before the qualifiers.

6.) 25 Jun 2017 14:08:47
We're only being linked with LBs because according to some rags we're "struggling to keep hold of Tierney".

{Ed007's Note - And even though we triggered another years option on Izaguirre's contract the Club want to extend that to a 3 year deal.}

7.) 25 Jun 2017 14:46:10
Exactly ed! They are begging for KT to leave, it must hurt them so much that we have arguably the best LB in Britain and he's Celtic daft! With Izzy I'm long term and KT looking to stay for 10 I'd be surprised if we sign another LB.

{Ed007's Note - And let's hope he's binned the Calvin Miller at LB idea.}

8.) 25 Jun 2017 23:30:57
Like the rest of us I read the s#it but when are we going to start believing that. as per years gone by. we do OUR business in a professional and dignified manner and when a deal is done we will announce it. HH. FB.

9.) 26 Jun 2017 00:06:10
Its strange how unsubstantiated rumours in the SMSM can result in such a long discussion on here . We know it will be a complete fluke if rumours like this come into fruition.
What I find it hard to stomach that we should have to read what Liverpool fans thought of Brendan when he was there . Sneering at him they should have been thankful he took them to their highest league position in over 30 yrs .
A manager wouldn't be doing his job right if he didn't experiment with players in different positions . Jock Stein experimented with Billie Mac Neil as centre foreward.

10.) 26 Jun 2017 08:02:37
Klopp has played milner at lb all season and he's the messiah.

11.) 26 Jun 2017 18:20:10
Tierney is a left back end of. However get off the OPs back, remember Gareth Bale was a left back originally at Southampton.

12.) 27 Jun 2017 18:18:13
Yeah Tesla, the difference is Bale was honking in defence.

22 May 2017 20:51:33
alright ed wee question not very clued up on this but I have just read that a London based investment firm who have shares in the likes of juventus and the WWE have upped there shares in Celtic, what does this actually mean? Does this provide more funds towards the club or just the shareholder who sold the shares? Cheers.

Wee1888

{Ed007's Note - Jamie's your man for this stuff but I don't see the club gaining any investment through it but whoever sold their shares will be getting a wedge.
Lindsell Train have been buying shares since 2011 and they see the Club as a good strong long term investment for their investors. They don't seem to take a hands on approach to any of their investments so we'll probably not hear much about them again - unless they get Wrestlemania at Celtic Park!!}

1.) 22 May 2017 21:11:30
No bother ed cheers, just something I read and never really had much information on, it's good that we are seen as a strong long term investment though, the futures bright its green and white.

{Ed007's Note - Definitely.}

2.) 22 May 2017 23:29:54
If anything it shows that someone with an objective view of the club thinks we are moving forward and that our value will most likely keep rising. Juventus are one of the top six clubs in Europe right now so they clearly know where to put their money.

3.) 22 May 2017 22:46:18
Wrestlemania Glasgow has a nice ring to it ha ha.

4.) 23 May 2017 02:04:40
thats just the wummin' lol.

5.) 23 May 2017 12:54:10
Hi Wee,

At the time that Company started buying Celtic shares were circa 38p a share by the time NL took us to CL football they were worth circa 70p

Under RD tenure they stayed "steady-ish"

Today, if you were buying ONE share in our great club it would cost you exactly £1 (Some Scottish football clubs go for that btw)

So that company will already have done very well out of us and factoring in all things like people in charge of the club, forward moves, possible CL football, BR's new deal the overview will be that we are a "safe bet" mate (y)

{Ed007's Note - So if you 1 million bought shares in 2011 for £380,000 they're now worth £1 million? Surely that's seen in business circles as a great performance for shares in a Scottish club, Jamie?}

6.) 23 May 2017 13:27:45
Without a doubt Ed, That's not even factoring in Dembele and KT's transfer "value's" which our manager fully accepts there comes a point " that it's beneficial to naturally part ways" but don't think KT's will be any time soon. But that these things "swell the coffers of a balance sheet"

A just think he is worth more than Lee Wallace pmsl (see sevco posts) (Y)

Factor in future HOTEL revenue etc it shapes up very well indeed (y)

{Ed007's Note - We really are starting to act like a big club. I've been saying for years we had the potential to do this if the board would just have taken a few risks over the years. We've listened to everyone talking down our game and people started believing it and were happy to take the scraps from the TV companies, sponsors or even the CL. Since I started doing this 6/7 years ago I've consistently said our minimum aim in the CL should be 3 spot and a run in the EL and with a bit of luck in the draw we should get a few Last 16 games as well. Maybe not next year - I'd love Last 16 - but maybe the year after I wouldn't mind us dropping down to the EL to see how far we could go in it.
We're leaving the rest of Scotland in our wake and have bigger fish to fry now, the gap between us and the rest of the Scottish teams is far greater, and built on far more solid foundations, than it ever was when Rangers dominated. We're banking serious money and investing it on improving the Club throughout whereas any big paydays they had went to servicing the debt cycle they were on.}

7.) 23 May 2017 15:15:30
I totally agree in terms of the last 16 being our "upper - ceiling " Ed. It was really annoying for many we deviated away from the model we had

If we could achieve that with say at least four from within our own development squad that would be our greatest retention but again you are never ever going to stop someone from earning more elsewhere for ever

This hotel aspect should have been implemented years ago IMO (y)

{Ed007's Note - Lennon stayed on a year too long and then Lawwell took us down the cheap road.}

Think it was more about letting the
GMS getting his career going again great move for him just wasn't good enough for us a free transfer would of been fair on him as he would of sat twiddling his thumbs all season, he was a bit overly star struck when he signed don't think he ever fitted in to the mentality and typing Celtic tv meant the end of his playing days for us.

Jimtim, might be wrong but I don't think you understand the post, we all knew so the manager knew we where going to loose paddy and Armstrong, so why wher the replacements not put in place earlier, jungle John I understand your frustration with the signing policy, I might be proven wrong but a player we loaned out to Aberdeen and a player we signed from St mirren is not good enough if we want to move forward as a club pushing for 10iar and progressing in Europe, everyone can say but we paid out 9m but eddy was here last season so what change/ Impact will that have, the board keep bumping there gumbs about money in the bank and where we are moving, but honestly I would rather have a 4m player than lights and a fancy pitch.

Rant over sorry team it's just my feelings.
