Well, it's finally here. The day that we all get to watch our favourite 11 players kick a bag of wind up and doon a park for 90 mins.

Having seen the progress that Sensei Angelos has achieved in personnel, players, style and mental state of mind in his first year - I can't wait to see what Sensei 2.0 will deliver for us. I think some of our players are going to be elevated to demi god status and if Primark did duvet covers with their faces on it they would sell like - well, duvet covers I suppose!

We are going to hand out a few real drubbings this year, we are going to be electrifying to watch, we may make history this year in some way and certainly turn some of they MSM "reporters" into total spew monkeys.

Today isn't the defence of anything - it's the next progression towards greatness for a team whos potential I haven't seen the likes of since women found me attractive.

It's great being us. Now let's do this.

Nice post Stubbsie, but I must disagree on one point ☝️- the MSM 'reporters' are already ? ? ?.

Arriba le "Toro Verde"

There is a great wee video on youtube showing all the goals we scored last year. My word we really smacked in some crackers from all angles and all distances.

What caught my eye was the set of screamers from Turnbull (not to mention his assists too) . I love a player that doesn't care about how far he is out but just swings a golden peg at the ball. That guy is fearless and really believes in his own ability to hit the top bin. If Turnbull was Brazilian then some of those goals would be on constant repeat. We love the Kyogo, we love the Hatate, we love the Jota, the O'Riley and the JJ's. Sometimes our own home grown go under the radar as they are not seen as a sexy signing (not even going to mention T'bull's haircut) . Turnbull is every bit as good as the guys I have just mentioned and I really don't agree with some of our fans that would punt him for the first £10m bid. This guy has goals, assists and dig to spare. I know our midfield is getting bloated but is that a bad thing?

Go the "green bull". In my opinion he would get at least a half in every game. Give it to him about 20 yards out and be prepared to get your backside off your chair.

1 down - 9 to go.

Turnbull only turned 23 a couple of weeks ago and he has a very good career ahead of him, if he can stay away from future serious injuries.
Turnbull has a 45% goals/ assists ratio in the Scottish Premiership for Celtic.
More impressive is his 54% goals/ assists ratio in European competitions for Celtic.

2.) 27 Jul 2022 15:48:06
Agree Stubbsie.
Turnbull is under-rated in my opinion and has been a bit over-shadowed by our more recent signings.
Ange sure has a problem on who to play, but it’s a good problem.
Similar problem with GG. What a centre forward, yet he is not guaranteed a starting place. Going to be a very interesting season for lots of reasons, including how Ange decides to use the squad. It’s fascinating.
?.

3.) 27 Jul 2022 15:48:55
Thanks BB - on the face of it his stats look impressive - not sure how it compares to the others but it is obvious the boy had talent. As you say, he needs to steer clear of the treatment table but he is only going to get better with age. It wasn't so long ago some wanted the team built around him. I'm not sure football works by building teams around individuals but Toro Verde sure as heck can contribute. Who's place and where he fits into the team is another thing but he is not a second choice for me.

4.) 27 Jul 2022 17:13:43
Our best eleven comprises of about 20 players, long may it continue ?.

5.) 27 Jul 2022 17:15:32

I really fear for the rest of the League this year - I think we are going to hand out a few embarrassing tankings this season.

Last season was close (I predicted that at the start of the season but was a tad worried when we went 7 down) and it was amazing how the goal difference in our favour really helped with our psyche when it was close. I really think that "extra point" the goal difference gave us was crucial at times - we need that again as it's all psycholgical games too - not just the football that wins titles.

Feel free to dissagree but my top 5 goal scoring predictions for the League only is -

Gia (or is it Chaos now? ) - 25
Kyogo - 24
Jota- 20
Turnbull (or is it Torro Verde now? ) - 15.

Depending on game time we might see Abada sneak in there. and O'Riley is my "wild Card.

That should be enugh to get us to our second CL qualification next season.

My only concern is Starfelt - will he ever score?

One down - nine to go.

Stubbsies Horse

1.) 18 Jul 2022 15:33:04
Injuries will play a big part as Jota and Kyogo will be targeted by the cloggers. If Jota GG and Jota have an injury free campaign they will run riot. Maeda and Hatate will also score a good few. I don't know what our top goals scored record (Buzz? ) is but I expect it to be beaten this season. Mooey is what we need in midfield with his experience in the game compared to a project. A risk free signing from Ange as if it doesn't work out we move on if it does extended contract. I can't wait to find out who the Centre Half that will be coming in is Ed do you reckon it will be a loan deal with option to buy?

2.) 18 Jul 2022 15:58:43
There or there abouts Stubbsie.
I can see, being available for the appropriate number of games;-

* Giorgious - 25+
* Kyogo - 25+
* Jota - 15+
* Abada - 15+

Given we scored 92 goals last season in the league, I feel we'll break a ton this season.

I'm going to steer clear of CL chat until I see the draw - too many variables.

☘️ ? ☘️.

3.) 18 Jul 2022 16:22:07
The boy Mooy could make all the difference if he signs but the midfield especially in the champions league worries me.

I read Ice Man’s quote from Ange and that didn’t make me feel any better:

‘When we are playing our football and moving the ball around, we do not need to rely on that side of the game’

(Thanks for the warning to look away Barry) .

How does that work when playing top quality opposition and you can’t get hold of the ball in midfield to move it around to play our football?

The league will be decided on head to heads against them and as I’ve said they bullied us in every game. Game was done at half time in 3-0 game but they had best of second half. Backs to the wall to win 2-1 when Vicars scores at the Bronx. Kicked off the park in semi-final permitted by the man in black. Lucky to hold on to 1-1 at Parkhead in last game.

The middle of the park needs strengthened.

4.) 18 Jul 2022 16:22:41
It's the defence that worries me. I agree with Stubbsie I'm also concerned with Starfelt as he is the weak link in the team. Do we need Mooy? I think a CB is should be our top priority, if we don't bring a CB in the it won't be as good a window as everyone thinks it's been.

5.) 18 Jul 2022 17:20:36
When CCV and Starfelt played together in the league we never lost a game! A CB will be coming in and Julien will be away.

6.) 18 Jul 2022 17:35:44
I'd be hoping for a CB also.
Should Julien leave it only leaves us withh Welsh to cover either CCV or Starfelt and that won't do.

Still plenty of time.

☘️ ? ☘️.

7.) 19 Jul 2022 08:50:23
A couple of weeks ago everyone was saying probably one of best windows, we secured Jota and CCV and now they ate saying maybe not so good. Are some looking across the city and thinking they have strengthened more than us. The CB named is a tidy player and will improve under Ange. I still can't believe some still question Starfelt, he was excellent the tail end of the season. Mooy will be a good signing, he is quality, has experience, doesn't lose the ball and wins tackles. What else do people want.

8.) 19 Jul 2022 15:02:15
Starfelt does a lot of cleatences and should have been MMOTM
A few times.
I think he the fall guy if you watch him his headers etc. Yes he has a blooter in him as I said in an earlier post.
But I think he has vastly improved.

14 Jul 2022 13:19:48
I have really enjoyed the 3 games we have played as friendlies so far. We have scored some great goals and been very entertaining to watch. It must be great for the players cobfidence.

The 3 games have not, however, been what I would consider to be typical Scottish League fare. Not one of the 3 teams just stuck their team behind the ball and tried to stiffle us. The games, to me, look like the type of scenario we will be emcountering in the CL/ Europe - except against better teams.

I have no doubt we will open up Scottish teams like a can of beans as we have exceptional tools for the job - I just wish they had the nuts to play like the 3 we have already met.

One down - nine to go troops.

I don't know anything about the lad - but I suppose we should trust Sensei Angelos. He has identified a gap and shortcomming in our squad and is taking measures to correct it.

If he keeps making signings like O'Riley and Maeda then I won't complain.

One down - nine to go.

I'm with the Rich T on this.

Sure most of it is crudd and junk from the media and scouts etc. As you say Ed some of us have wasted hours of our lives being duped by the "ITK" guys.

But sometimes, just sometimes, all the bait clicking, dreaming and hope does come off - Bernabei anyone? The hit rate might not be high - but when it is.

All power to the dreamers and the easily duped Rich T. Like a stpped clock we are occasionally right.

One down - nine to go.

{Ed007's Note - I wasn't meaning you guys wasting time reading their stuff, Stubbsie - that's what this site is for, to talk about rumours. I'm more on about the hours bloggers etc wasted writing pointless clickbaiting articles as if they are ITK about every player in the world, the wages they'd want, Ange has personally spoke to them etc etc and all for hee haw except for a boost in their advertising revenue earned off the back off attention seeking guys on Twitter.
How can a journalist claim that Celtic are in advanced talks to sign a player when they weren't and not get called out over it by Celtic fans, because it was good news? Everyone was quick to pile on to the guy that said he expected JJ to leave, because it's bad news? Both stories got them plenty of clicks on Twitter and gave the Celtic bloggers plenty to write about yet neither story was true.
I could sit here and make up BS stories - remember Guinness sponsoring Celtic Park? - that are believable and the lurkers that only read the page would lap it up but we aren't a clickbaiting site, otherwise Ed001 would have taken one of Sly's offers to work for/with them post stories and rumours to back up their stories that are only there to drive traffic to their betting site.
Everybody knows how much I hate the transfer window, clickbait sites love it because their revenue and profiles shoot up. It's all about the mighty budo.}

FGA - thanks for the opportunity hahaha

How about this - a bit left field but hey.

Who would be for a "people's player fund"? It would work like this:

Every league game would have an extra £1 (or £2 for cup games past the quaters and all Euro games) tariff imposed on it and the proceeds held in a "people's player fund". The monies would accumulate every game and it would be at the descretion of the fans when to cash that fund in so that the manager could buy a player with it. Now the club just has to pay the wages of that player. Any resale of the player then goes back into the fund until we decide when to release it again. Now given we have a decent cup run and do okay in Europe (the figure would be much higher if we had to do Euro qualifiers too) That fund would generate between £1.5m and £2m a year. We could have signed that Souza lad after only a few years or a great player like O Riley every year. All for the cost of £1/ 2 a game - and who'd really miss that - it's less tha half a pint before the game .

Views on that are welcome!

England winning the Women's Euro Championship would have the same gravitas for me as the World Dung Beetle Turd Rolling Chanpionships. To me it's burger and chips to the haute cuisine of the mens game. It's a side show.

FGA - there are loads of things I would change about the game other than the things you mentioned. Just few are:-

The game doesn't stop for injuries - like rugby a team comes on to treat the player down.

The refs need to find a pair of balls - after a decision if they are crowded out/ hassled then it's a yellow to the closest player and keep it up until sense prevails.

Refs need to make a judgment call about fake injuries - hand out a yellow for the more obvious. No red though. If they are on a yellow already then a pink card should be produced so that the player and the crowd are in no doubt that the player is a p**f. Who'd want that? Watch the Oscar performancies dwindle ( you'll never stop Neymar though! )

Totally agree on the clock being stopped for subs made. It's blinking easy - once the ref says it's okay to sub then the team subbing need to find the opportunity to do it after that when the opportunity arises.

I hate penaty shoot outs. Instead the game goes on but every 3-5 mins each manager has to bring off one of their players after a claxon sounds. It's up to each manager to decide who comes off - we will see which manager has some real balls then and be lauded as either a God or derided as a class A clown for his choices! Takes away the total lottery element of penalty shoot outs and puts the game firmly back in the hands of management. First goal is the winner - imagine the discussions after that happened!

Finally - the bobbins that "run" our game should have an amendment to membership that every member team must offer any unsold seats to the visiting fans team 24hrs before kick off. The benefits to each club (that constanly plead poverty) , the away fans and the over all spectacle that Scottish football should be are obvious.

More options from Obergruppenfuerer Stubbies Horse are available on request.

I've really missed that phrase "penalty to Tav" these last few weeks. I look forward to its re-emergance this season when Rangers are looking likely to drop points. If I recall correctly Tav didn't get many when they were 3 up with 20 to go. With The Buff on the Slimfast we might see Tav end up top scorer this season as falling down without contact is practiced to an art form.

We live in interesting times.

The defence of our title starts here, today - at Livingston.

We have a team that is miles better than this time last year and I can't see us dropping many points this year - certainly not 9 in our first 3 away games. I won't say the titile is in the bag, as my face is allergic to egg, but I'd be shocked if CalMac isn't holding the cup up at the end.

Europe - ah yes, Europe. My first instinct was that to get simply into the CL group stages was success. Having seen Sensei Angelos build a team of exciting new talent and play exhilarating football I think we can exceed my expectations. Last 16 CL would be amazing but a good Europa would be taken as real progress.

Guys - today is the first day of 2 down and 8 to go. Now let's get this party started.
