Young Dembele signs his first professional contract with us until 2021.

Young bhoy is here for 10 in a row.

Superb news, I was just saying I hoped we could get him signed up yesterday or the day before 👌🍀💚HH.

2.) 25 Dec 2018 09:00:14
Need to get young Henderson to sign up now . that would be great news too.

Ryan Christie signing a four year deal before end of the month. M. L. two year extension. HH

Seen that rumour on Twitter. As this is called Celtic Rumours I thought I would stick it up. If true 2yr extension for Lustig seems strange.

He'd be very decent back-up for a new RB Hoopy.

2.) 10 Nov 2018 22:38:17
In all my years of watching Celtic I have had many disappointments when big players leave the club for big money offers, mainly in England. Macari, Dalglish, McClair, Nicolas and in more recent times, Forster, Wanyama, Van Dyke. It’s really encouraging that we’re holding onto the majority of our stars these days and I suspect that’s down to BR. It’s also encouraging that the board are willing to sanction the increase in the wage bill we’ve seen as a result of this. Holding onto guys like Lustig, Izzaguirre, Biton, Hayes etc. are an important part of maintaining our strength in depth.

Who thinks we are going to bring in any first team players for postion we need?

1.) 15 Jan 2019 11:13:12
I would take Mbemba and £14m for Ntcham. That would help solve problem positions👍.

2.) 15 Jan 2019 12:09:07
I do.

3.) 15 Jan 2019 12:25:07
Still half the 'window' left and I would hope to see at least another new arrival and a few loaned out and/ or released.
All I'm interested in at present is getting back to watching Celtic again as it's been really boring without them.

4.) 15 Jan 2019 12:50:52
Need to trim a fair few off wage bill first but another 2 at the back and that's all we need imo.

5.) 15 Jan 2019 14:02:08
Said before with the Burke, Weah and Bayo deals done.

I'm certain a RB, CB and CM will still come in.

And I also expect some money getting spent on these positions which will take abit longer than expected to be completed with teams playing hardball.

6.) 15 Jan 2019 22:16:18
Kev did somebody propose?

16 Dec 2018 18:19:35
Will get slaughtered for this on here but hey ho. Brendan signings have not improved the team. If you go through our squad not many players who he has bought are first team picks.

Goalkeeper Gordon already here. Brendan signing no improvement

RB Lustig. Brendan signing no improvement RB

CH Boyata Benkovic. 1 out of contract and other a loan. Brendan signing no improvement.

LB Tierney. Brendan signing no improvement

Midfield Brown, McGregor, Christie and Rogic. Could argue on his day Ntcham improves team.

LW Sinclair. Good signing not been his best this season.

RW Forrest. Brendan signing no improvement

CF Eduardo. Good player very young and raw. Big price tag for us.

Only real success was Dembele.

Brendan has been excellent developing the players and we play some excellent football. Worry about our signing policy. Is it our scouts, Lawells budget policy. Not sure but this window coming up is massive. HH.

1.) 16 Dec 2018 18:49:09
Said on here after the summer window that I felt the board has backed Rodgers but the majority of his signings have been woeful.

I've always been a firm believer in playing the strongest 11 everytime including keeping the same formation.
I can understand forced changes being made due to injuries and suspensions. That's twice now in as many weeks we made either changes to the starting 11 or formation and we have dropped points to Motherwell and Hibs. If we were playing Barcelona or a Juventus then fair enough I could understand a formation change but in the SPL c'mon?

It was back to sideways and backwards paasing again. I don't think that was a coincidence with Brown and Ntcham back in the team, we look very flat and slow with those in the midfield. Also our CB's just can't play a forward pass. Watching them trying to play out from the back is horrible and Hibs knew it is a weakness in us as you could tell by how high they pressed they were just waiting for one of our CB's to panic with the ball at their feet.

Edouard is never a No.9 and I think he's better out in the left.

2.) 16 Dec 2018 21:07:18
Rogers did not pick dembele either, he had been well scouted and contacted before rogers got the job.

One thing I must say is how many of the players that were here when he arrived have played their best football for Celtic though?

Rogers has improved the team and that can't be argued even if his signings haven't.

3.) 16 Dec 2018 21:20:39
Got to agree kev, there's is a vast improvement with a number of the players who were already here. A few of the signings have been poor but again too many have been "projects" when in reality we have needed to improve on what was already in the squad rather than end up bloated with average.

4.) 16 Dec 2018 21:47:05
Rodgers would have never built the squad Ronnie did. Team is going backwards. All our top players are all ronnies singnings.

5.) 16 Dec 2018 21:57:30
The double treble winning team that has already won the first trophy of this season and qualified for Europe after Xmas for the second year running is going backwards?

6.) 16 Dec 2018 22:17:33
After an 'invincible season' a double treble and another trophy already in the cabinet, it's almost impossible to maintain those standards every week - especially with so many injuries.
I agree several signings haven't worked out, but what about players that were already here that improved, like Forrest, Boyata, KT and McGregor and the improved stamina of Rogic/ Lustig?
Of course we need better quality rather than quantity, but it's not so long ago we were hammering every team in sight, scoring for fun and that includes last Saturday versus Killie.
Edouarde looks very short of confidence, energy and mobility, but the pressure on this guy is immense because of his price tag and the fact he has no other player to share the responsibility.
The goal he scored at Ibrox in the 3-2 game (and others) is testament to what he is capable of; but he needs support.
Sinclair is another one over-relied upon that is capable of better when fully fit and confident and I could mention others in the same context, that will come good because they know they can.
We are all disappointed about the last two games, but we should get behind the team throughout the rest of this month of almost 'hand-picked' fixtures and help get them back on track.

7.) 16 Dec 2018 22:21:14
The team that Rodgers inherited from Ronnie is now weaker in my opinion. Can only mean one thing. It's going backwards.

8.) 16 Dec 2018 22:31:33
Kev

Gave Brendan credit at the end of my comments about developing the players and we play some excellent football. Have 100% faith this is just a blip. Im concerned on transfer front.

9.) 16 Dec 2018 23:41:53
So with a weaker team Rogers is doing better 🤔🤔🤔.

10.) 17 Dec 2018 00:57:43
Every one is entitled to there opinion But I can't see how people can say its Rogers Fault yes we were really poor today terrible to be honest but I think some of our fringe players that were playing are not good enough when we have our best 11 out NO TEAM in Scotland can compete but when you have injures to more than 2 we get punished IMO.

11.) 17 Dec 2018 04:19:43
Surely this is a wind up. Yes our performances have lacked consistency. When we click we click very well. You wouldn't think this team on the spin have just delivered on the spin their seventh trophy and qualified for last 32 of a very hard group. Nope you definitely would not. We are going to lose games. and some days we might not turn up that, that was today. We will be fine.

12.) 17 Dec 2018 06:44:03
Undefeated season
Double treble
League cup in the bag
Euro football after Xmas

Going backwards?

What do you suggest hoppy - sack the manager?

Couple of bad performances and everyone is quick to judge.

13.) 17 Dec 2018 08:56:32
As a fan I have to say that if Celtic were winning every game 2-0, 3-0 etc I would quickly get bored. Of course I want them to win every game but the important word here is "game" and it is not a game if there is no possibility to drop points. One thing is to want to win but another thing is to think you have a divine right to win just by stepping out on the park. was wondering that if i would get bored is it possible that also the players could get bored winning all the time and allow complacency to enter.
Having said this I think the board have to decide if they want to spend money on go-go dancers and cheerleaders to accompany the disco lights or to strengthen the team.

14.) 17 Dec 2018 09:22:29
It wasn't hoppy that said we were going backwards IC.
Hippy I know you gave Brendan credit at the end on the post, I was agreeing with you.

15.) 17 Dec 2018 09:55:35
Island Celtic

If it was up to me i would try and extends Brendan contract. One of the best managers we've had. Development of players and tactically.

Have major concerns over or transfer policy. This isn't just down to Brendan as I stated in my first post. Scouting team, Clubs finances who knows but far to many bad buys for there not to be a underlying problem.

B. Rodgers signings:
M. Dembele
K. Toure
S. Sinclair
D. de Vries
C. Gamboa
E. Kouassi
J. Hayes
K. Benyu
O. Ntcham
O. Eduoard
P. Roberts
M. Compper
C. Musonda
S. Bain
J. Hendry
L. Morgan
E. Izaguirre
D. Arzani
F. Benkovic
Y. Mulumb

Read through that list and consider the money wasted. January is a massive window. HH.

16.) 17 Dec 2018 17:24:06
Roberts and dembele were not Brendans signings.
Robert just extended his stay and dembele was already in contact with Celtic before rogers signed.

17.) 17 Dec 2018 23:31:23
Sorry hoppy it wasn’t your post that said backwards
I reckon half those you listed get pass marks.

16 Dec 2018 09:52:31
Very tough game today on back of Thursday. Easter road is always been a difficult place to get 3 points. Broony back in the team today will give us a bit bite in the midfield.

Happyhoppy

1.) 16 Dec 2018 11:08:23
Hibs down to the bare bones today injury wise so no excuses.

2.) 16 Dec 2018 13:16:06
What a pile of utter rubbish. Center midfield is a joke. Both Brown and nitcham offer nothing. Celtic clearly cannot play three at the back. All over the place.

3.) 16 Dec 2018 13:24:37
Terrible to watch. I’ve loved brown but it’s maybe time he moves on. How often does he pass the ball backwards.

4.) 16 Dec 2018 14:39:30
That was shocking and totally unacceptable today. Once again it proves with Brown and nitcham in the middle of the park we have nothing. Certain players always get called out after poor performances while other get away with. Nitcham and eddy no more look like they want to be there. U can talk all we want about injuried which is fine but this does not stop players who are fit trying their hardest and playing for the jersey and for the team and supporters who go everywhere to see them. It is clear to me if we have to have this midfield and only eddy up front then we are in trouble. The amount if times we pass the ball backwards is unbelievable. They can show all the figures about how much possession we have but l would love to see how many passes in that when backwards. Even with 7 mins left Celtic were passing between Gordon and the defence. Sorry to say l love the guy but Brown is the worst for this and for me slows the game Down too much. Ajer also when backwards repeatedly with his passing. All in all is was one of the worst performances from Celtic in a long time. Time for a few bodies to find new pastures in my opinion.

5.) 16 Dec 2018 14:51:27
Usual finger of blame being pointed at Brown. He was the only one showing any effort. Performance was lazy right across the team. Edouard cannot play up on his own either.

09 Dec 2018 23:39:53
Not had a settled defence all season. Just seen we have only lost 8 league goals. Not bad considering all the upheaval in defence.

Happyhoppy

1.) 10 Dec 2018 01:03:29
Benkovic has made a difference in there. Lad is class. Would be good if we could keep him and Boyata but very unlikely.

29 Oct 2018 09:19:56
Christie out of contract in the summer. Do we offer a new contract or is this the type of squad player we have to get off the wage bill?

23yrs young had a good 45minutes yesterday but over all his Celtic career is non existent.

Happyhoppy

1.) 29 Oct 2018 10:16:12
He's in negotiations with the club already.

2.) 29 Oct 2018 10:33:40
There's many in front of him in the queue to get punted. Tbf he's spent a fair bit of his Celtic career on loan where he was a regular with the sheep, it would be foolish to punt him now. Hopefully he can make the same impact now that McGregor did after he spent a few seasons on loan at Notts county I think it was.

3.) 29 Oct 2018 10:34:14
BS.

My Bhoy set the heather on fire at Aberdeen. He’s the real deal and has to stay and become a legend. Watch out McGregor Tierney and Forrest. Here he comes.

Check out my latest post about UEFA Scots players requirements too.

4.) 29 Oct 2018 11:22:36
It was good to see him make such an impact as up until now he has been unable to establish himself under different Celtic managers.
However, with so many midfield players in the squad we really need to off-load quite a few (including sending one or two out on loan) .
We are crying out for an Armstrong type player and although, Christie is a bit lightweight, he really got involved yesterday and must have impressed the manager, his team-mates and the support. Well done.

5.) 29 Oct 2018 11:23:21
On that form if he can maintain it definitely but he needs a good run of games.

Ed007

How does our European scouting work. Have tried looking it up before but never really found any information. Read a article about Peter Houston hiring a car and watching games over Europe for Celtic.

Happyhoppy

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure how Celtic's scouting works in Europe and it varies on the size of the club. But typically there are a number of people that a club retains or employs regarding the "scouting" of players including a permanent Chief Scout and a perhaps a Head of International Scouting who all will report in to the club via a Director of Football or whatever. There is also be a guy who co-ordinates all of the reports and ensures that they go to the correct person. Obviously no one at the first team level is going to see or be interested in any reports related to kids so there is a hierarchy that deals with young kids, potential academy players up to the first team squad. There are then scouts retained (sometimes on a permanent basis, sometimes on a part time basis and sometimes on an ad hoc basis) by clubs to cover specific countries and/or areas of the world - France, South America, Adriatic & Old Eastern Bloc, Iberia etc.. On top of that there will be freelance scouts (often ex-referees and amateur club staff who will stay within their particular area of expertise and region). Once a player has been looked at a couple of times and reports reviewed, then someone from further up this chain will take a look. Eventually a chief scout will take a look, or if it is a potential first team player, then perhaps a coach or a manager will take a look. Some clubs also have advisors which include, taking one EPL side as an example, ex-managers or highly respected people within the game.

As a good example of this system, there are a number of people that Chelsea retain or employ regarding the "scouting" of players including a permanent Chief Scout and a Head of International Scouting who all report in to the Director of Football (when newly appointed). There is a guy who co-ordinates all of the reports and ensures that they go to the correct person. Obviously no one at the first team level is going to see or be interested in any reports related to children. There are then scouts retained by the club in specific countries and areas of the world - France, South America, Adriatic & Old Eastern Bloc, Iberia etc.. On top of that there are both formal and informal "advisors" who often have an opinion to give - some of these are very well known people.

As for Manchester United, they will look to appoint a Director of Football and have been working hard on trying to persuade someone to come - but it is proving to be a real struggle to sell the opportunity to him. Under him, they will seek to rebuild the scouting structure by adding new people and generally follow the model used by the likes of Chelsea. In the interim they have already started to make changes so they are working hard to improve.

Within the English game, particularly at lower-levels and with youngsters, scouts often include ex-managers and referees at that level across Europe - and it would be reasonable to assume the Scottish sides do the same. There are certainly ex Youth Team referees and coaches who provide scouting services to clb..

With younger kiddies clubs often restrict their search area by distance - Southampton has a fan shaped catchment area stretching out from Southampton and up to Swindon to the Northwest and the outer-reaches of the metropolis to the Northeast. Sunday league and youth games in this area will often see someone scouting on behalf of Southampton as they concentrate on local talent. Further afield they look to local specialists for advice.

The London clubs, such as West Ham, have the benefit of two multi-tiered clubs that have developed numerous players who have gone on to play at the highest level - Chelsea, Spurs and West Ham have always had a good relationship with one in particular - Senrab.}
