Got to say today we stepped up to the challenge and absolutely put them in their place, to a man every single player played their part today but the one man indeed to single out is boyata, I've slated this guy for a week now and today he was absolutely immense, I'm not excusing what went on the past few weeks with him but today he was absolutely phenomenal.

Should have been my prediction, at least 4.0. Pissed all over them. Shell shocked, hype bubble burst.

Cants were lucky to have that dirty bassa McHacker still on the park. Does it every game.

Given the transfer window we've just had and the disappointment of not getting in the quality that Brendan wanted, I hope between now and January the players Brendan doesn't fancy long term are told and get them out the door ASAP. Come January we MUST have significant funds to to go get the players that we need in certain positions and strengthen. Congerton and co ( if they're lucky enough to still be there need targets identified pronto and realistic targets at that. no more pissing about.

Of course Gerry there needs to be sufficient money for the right players . In total we have wasted nearly £10 m on Compper and Kouassi .
Needless to say we can't afford to continue doing that . We must have money available for Ntcham and French Eddy standard of players.

2.) 02 Sep 2018 08:15:29
10 million?

3.) 02 Sep 2018 09:10:47
Kouassi was £3 mill and Comper £1.2, however add on Hayes, Hendry, Allen etc and we have spent over £10mill. We could recover maybe half and that's what we should do.

4.) 02 Sep 2018 09:20:26
OMC, That is why I am not too upset at this window. Wasted £10 million but a lot of fans were happy we spent that kind of money. I am ok with the current squad (albeit we need to strengthen our defence but failed there) . However, I also believe we have approached some quality players who have politely rejected coming to our wee league even although it would have been to Celtic who are known worldwide. Our Geography is against us regardless how massive a club we are. If moving to a bigger league was a possibility I am sure there are leagues out there who would take us in a heartbeat.
Anyway, I can dream. Have a great day and I hope a good celebration this evening.

5.) 02 Sep 2018 09:34:45
Only £4m in fees unless you mean wages too which I doubt would've been £6m since they've been here.

Brendan has said all summer it's about quality not quantity regarding signings. Well if losing Armstrong and dembele, two top 1st team players who Brendan and the fans rated highly and bringing in Benkovic (loan) , Arzani (loan) , Izzy (freebie) , mulumba (freebie) , Edouard (£9 million+ was here last season so had a fair idea what he could offer) . if that's the quality Brendan was referring to then he's had a cracking window. somehow though I don't think that's the kind of window he would have imagined having.

Armstrong out - mulumbu in
Roberts out - arzani in
Benkovic in to boost defence.
Lewis Morgan showed promise before injury, could be a new 'Armstrong'.
Rogic signed.
Izzy hasn't looked bad so far, decent cover.

We lost moussa but he couldn't stay n no replacement which is poor.

But now the window is shut I'm looking at the positives and it may not be the most inspiring n we're a little short upfront but I don't think any of the guys brought in are poor players and maybe BT has a plan for the guys that are there. Mulumbu ntcham and brown away from home in Europe is solid n the big CH may turn out to be a player.

Also have unknown quantity in arzani and Morgan, I'm feeling more positive about it. Bring on the sevco.

If what Brendan is quoted as saying last night that Mulumbu and the centre half from Leicester are the only two coming in then that disappoints me. We're in desperate need of a right back, and while I'm not suggesting we go out and spend £15/ 20 million yet again it's a player who's been kicking about all summer doing nothing, played all season in Scotland last year and a centre half on loan that'll head right back down the road next season. Great scouting I'd suggest from congerton and co. The usual running about at the last minute panicking trying to get players in. The hierarchy at Celtic Park really need to have a look at our scouting set up once this window slams shut, just not good enough for me and they're probably in a decent wage. I mean how much scouting went into the Mulumbu deal? Guys been playing on our doorstep all last season.

Worries me that mulumbu has went to the end of the window before finding a club that would take him, why no pre contract last xmas or any of the months up till the end of last season, guy looked a player with killie so why did no one else sign him up, I know Swansea were interested at the end with us, but they bought John from sevco, so that shows their standard of player.

2.) 31 Aug 2018 07:36:33
Morning all I wonder what today will bring hopefully a good draw for the Europa league group stage. Hopefully quality players in (2/ 3) if lucky and will Dembele b at the club? I say yes the odds are with Celtic but you never know?

3.) 31 Aug 2018 07:56:34
I don't think we "desperately need a right back", gamboa has been great so far this season with lustig as back up, it's probably one of our strongest positions if gamboa keeps up his form.

4.) 31 Aug 2018 09:12:05
Robdoc 21

Do you actually watch Celtic. Gamboa is a bombscare. Maybe looks ok going forward but can't defend.

The away game against Suduva he got took off as he was all over the place.

5.) 31 Aug 2018 09:14:14
If BR does not rate Gamboa, he could always work on Hendry as right back as I think he could do a better job there than centre back.

6.) 31 Aug 2018 09:45:15
Once a boy

He played Hendry at RB a few times. When Hibs turned us over at their ground last season he was brutal. He is was worse at RB than CH.

Simply not a Celtic player at any postion.

Afternoon ED, what's your take on our dealings this transfer window and what's your gut feeling on what could happen in the next 2 days? As it stands we've lost Roberts, Armstrong, possibly boyata and now looking like dembele. We've brought in a £9 million project in Edouard ( no disrespect to him) Morgan, Bain and re signed Izzy. Now to me that makes us considerably weaker than last season and while I do appreciate we need bodies out the door, I never thought we'd be sitting with 2 and a bit days left of this window in this current situation when it's abundantly clear to most where our squad needs strengthened. I do understand there's still time for bodies to come in but by god there's not much so I hope we're well down the line with a few targets as for me, if we sell dembele, possibly boyata and don't bring in the 3/ 4 players that Brendan says he wants then that's unforgivable for me.

Garryc1967

{Ed007's Note - There's nothing I can really add to that, Garry, I agree with every word mate. The next couple of days should be interesting.}

1.) 29 Aug 2018 17:20:51
The thing is, I appreciate we needed to offload some players but I don’t think any of our fans would have thought it would have been four of our main players. I know some will say Armstrong wasn’t a main player last year but he was a big squad player where if he was needed we weren’t weakened in any way.

2.) 29 Aug 2018 17:15:21
Cheers ED, absolutely gutted with this news regarding dembele. I new he’d go at some point but not this window and certainly not this close to the window closing, and to top it off all this on the eve of the suduva game ( which I fully expect us to win convincingly) but the weekend of the game against that mob.

{Ed007's Note - When the Pub League window closed I thought we had a great chance of keeping him as Marseilles - who are long term admirers of Demble - were/are planning to sign another player, Balotelli was one and Giroud I think it is from Chelsea who they will be meeting in London on Friday.}

3.) 29 Aug 2018 17:38:09
Selling dembele with 2 days of the transfer window left is diabolical. I hope he doesn’t get sold but the way this window has happened we will probably lose dembele and boyata and no one coming in. I want at least 8 million spent on a replacement for dembele but that won’t happen because of our wage structure 🤬.

4.) 29 Aug 2018 17:42:49
Totally agree Quinn1888, there’s quite a few players in our squad that shouldn’t be there and have been around for the last 2/ 3 years and haven’t made a stamp on the team, but to lose Roberts, Armstrong, possibly boyata and looking like dembele? That’s shocking from us, granted there was no certainties with Roberts, Armstrong wanted to go south ( and that’s fine, what isn’t is we’ve not yet replaced him. If we lose a quality player we MUST have someone ready to come in) the situation with boyata is a joke, we knock back £9 million on a guy that clearly doesn’t want to be here and has no intention of signing a new deal, now there’s this crap with dembele? With griffiths and Edouard’s injury history we need 3 top strikers and that was before rodgers said he wanted 3/ 4 players in, so if dembele does go is that now 4/ 5 players rodgers wants in?

5.) 29 Aug 2018 18:05:31
I know we are supposedly after only “quality “ players but for us to look to get in 3-4-5 players in the last day is a joke . Say what you want about the huns but you have to say they seem to go after a player and get him quickly. We seem to be linked, then distance ourselves, link again, go for a loan . Then scramble around at the end saying we ran out of time. They sign 13 players and we run out of time! Just pay the going rate and accept it, it’s doing my head in how inept we have been.

6.) 29 Aug 2018 18:06:53
We are in a bad place now with transfers and possible transfers, but really for the sake of our sanity we might as well wait until the window closes to evaluate just how bad or otherwise the window has been.

7.) 29 Aug 2018 18:41:01
Quinn I’m no worried about what rangers have signed or how many they’ve signed, I mean they needed a clear out and Gerrard has definitely improved them which to be fair wouldn’t have been hard, what infuriates me is we sell Armstrong, Rodgers says we must replace him, hasn’t happened, Stevie wonder could see we need 2 new CB’s and a new RB yet we’ve still not addressed the situation. Brendan has consistently said we’re weaker than last year, he’s consistently said we need 3/ 4 signings and it hasn’t happened, now 2 days before the window closes we’re on the brink of losing dembele? I do understand we’ve players we need to get out the door but we need to improve also, we’ve gone stale.

8.) 29 Aug 2018 18:50:33
Rangers have repeated what they did in summer window 2016, 2017 this yr 2018 . Only lunatics repeat the same thing and expect different results.

9.) 29 Aug 2018 19:51:05
I see your point Chris but if the window shut now surely you can’t deny that the people have closed the gap on us, through our own work and some of the players they have recruited. Can anyone be confident here that we are going to bring in these 3/ 4 players that Rogers wants by Friday? And a possible replacement for moose?

10.) 29 Aug 2018 23:04:00
I certainly would not be convinced . The Scottish Media and Rangers 2012 have told us how wonderful they are . Funny thing they told us that in 2016 and 2017 .
Remember the future England keeper with the next England Manager and also Joey Barton and the Croatian midfielder . Was there any point in us turning up? Last season was just the same a team of stars with a £13 m striker .
At least the last two seasons they had managers and even under 20 manager filling in . Now no manager, just an under 18 boys coach.

11.) 29 Aug 2018 23:08:29
OMC, Rangers will be up with us, if not in front of us this season.

12.) 29 Aug 2018 23:30:35
Good luck Johhnymac, I always like a good positive Celtic man . Even Rangers2012.fans don't expect it, they are going for 2nd.

If the fee is £20 million plus I’d go with that, if not they can jog on till January and try again.

With the £9 million we got offers for him and stupidly knocked back, no one will convince me otherwise with that kind of money we couldn’t have got a better centre half in? In fact I don’t believe we’d have had to spend anywhere near half that £9 million to replace boyata.

Who was the 3 man ex referee panel. Hugh Dallas, mike mccurry and willie young by any chance 😂😂. absolute joke of a decision. the sfa would be as well getting nominated players from every spfl team up to hampden and give each a chance of booting someone up the backside till they decide who’s boot was excessive and who’s wasn’t.

I don’t see how Celtic have done the right thing here. Rodgers said himself “ no player has ever been given a time they can leave” so what’s dembele’s tweets all about then? I don’t care what anyone says, dembele signed the 4 year deal, respect the contract, respect the club, respect the fans. taking his moods to social media to force a move is pathetic.

We’ve always known that possibly 2 years into his 4 year deal dembele would probably go, Brendan has said as much numerous times which makes me wonder why have we been so short sighted in seeing this coming? What on earth is our management team and scouting network playing at? We should already have a list of potential targets for this situation if and when it arises. I fully understand it leaves us with no time to do much but , we’ll eventually agree a deal to let dembe go today which no doubt should get us an substantial fee but it’ll be the same old crap from Celtic in that “ we had to sell but had no time to replace”. very very poor from our side if that does indeed end up being the case. after tonight get shop of Lee congerton and his scouts and start again. At this rate we’d have been better sticking with John park.

Totally agree, whilst everyone would love dembele to stay it’s clear the lad wants to go. I can see Brendan’s point regarding us needing a quality replacement for him but what happens now is looking like us having 2 unhappy first team players ( boyata and dembele) the thing is dembele must realise celtics position though as it’s not as if we’ve weeks to get a replacement for him. If he doesn’t go by tonight then one things for sure is that his time has come to move on so we must actively look to replace him and let the boy move in January/ next summer. £20 million plus for a guy we bought for less than £500 grand plus has countless problems with his hamstrings is good money in my book. If he’s still here come Saturday morning could an option be to give him a new vastly improved contract? Give him a good wage rise, add a couple of years to his current deal and safeguard us for maximising a future fee? If he stays we’ve got to have a happy dembele not a dembele that’s face is tripping him, and also guarantee that come January/ next summer a bid that Celtic find acceptable, the player finds acceptable then he must be allowed to move.
