Ed, Just out of curiosity do you know if MK Dons are due anything from the O'Reilly sale?

Celticmad73

{Ed007's Note - I'm sure I read they had a 10% sell-on clause when he signed.}

1.) 26 Aug 2024 22:46:44
There is no sell on as we met Riley's release clause when we bought him.

{Ed007's Note - Yeah OK then, we'll believe your first ever post on here over the MK Dons manager and board ya diddy!

2.) 27 Aug 2024 08:19:00
There is no way our board did not have a sell on clause added, not a chance.

Guys, How or what was/ is the requirement to get into this Club World Cup? I am a bit miffed that our great club has not been mentioned while I see names of clubs from across the globe that I have never heard of, thanks to DAZN! ONE LOT OF UTTER, COMPLETE DROSS in my humble opinion. Glad we are nowhere near.

I agree that the 'invitation list' is very random and puzzling and I reckon the RSVP included some sort of cash remuneration as is usually the case with FIFA. However, I am happy enough for Celtic to steer well clear and have a proper close-season to prepare for nest term. Many football people are complaining about too games and there will be a fair chance of injuries to players who are over-stretched.

2.) 23 Jun 2025 10:03:46
There’s been a handful of non competitive games but most has been a not bad watch, because was first tournament there was criteria for an invite I’m sure based around each organisations versions of champions league, Europe was so many previous cl winners and some others with highest co-officiant, think idea is good but timing and location is rotten, not sure it will catch on, but as someone else said, it’s not cricket.

3.) 23 Jun 2025 10:58:46
You'd think Liverpool and even man utd would be in it, but somebody mentioned it was the last 4 years co efficient points nut not sure, but deary nectheres some dross in it teams I've never heard of and amateur teams at that.

4.) 23 Jun 2025 12:35:02
I feel sorry for the players involved in this tournament. I get that their being paid funny money but on a human level, it's terrible they're being forced to play these games without proper rest. I thought the players union would have done more to stick up for them.

{Ed007's Note - I wouldn't want Celtic anywhere near this sham of a tournament but the players fitness/fatigue issues is the main one. Plenty of FAs, clubs & players didn't want this to go ahead and come the turn of the year I expect that a lot of top managers will be blaming this tournament for their players being burnt out & tired which can lead to injuries - just as it gets to the business end of the season and the trophies are up for grabs.
Last month FIFPRO (the worldwide players union) has raised a legal action FIFA that you can read about HERE but I've not seen any updates on that.}

5.) 23 Jun 2025 12:59:43
I have absolutely no interest in this World Cup competition and have no knowledge of the criteria used to invite clubs to enter .
I am wondering is it an attempt, maybe foolhardy to give small clubs from not well known associations an opportunity to earn millions and thus divide football wealth around.

6.) 23 Jun 2025 19:16:25
I can't be assed with it either. I think we all need a break from football. Players and fans.

12 Jun 2025 23:43:15
Guys, I genuinely think BR has no intention of extending his contract. He will be here until next may/ June. He will have come back, recognised he had unfinished business and I am sure he will lead us to 56. The constraints at Celtic are clear. We have to plan ahead.

Celticmad73

1.) 13 Jun 2025 08:11:24
Neil Lennon for a 3rd time. It's the easy option ?.

2.) 13 Jun 2025 08:50:54
Devil's Advocate here. Hope he does get the 56 before that mob does but what if he doesn't? Will he be here until he gets one more over them as he'll have more unfinished business to do?

3.) 13 Jun 2025 09:34:01
I've got a funny feeling that Postecoglou will return one day, maybe after Rodgers has another year up here.

4.) 13 Jun 2025 10:18:51
Business in this transfer window (both ways) could give an indication of what could influence his decision either way. However, I always thought he made a declaration on his return that it was for 3 years.
A better run in Europe and further domestic success against yet another Sevco manager may be his final bow.

5.) 13 Jun 2025 11:13:34
He will sign an extension if the Board give him what he wants for this transfer window.

6.) 13 Jun 2025 11:14:32
Europe is what he's after games like bayern stimulate him so hopefully we get a good run this year.

7.) 13 Jun 2025 11:22:28
The Board may know BR’s plans after his contract expires next summmer . However 12 mths is a long time in football and neither Board or BR want to actually commit themselves to something starting in 12 mths .
Board maybe aware B R wants to leave in a year and maybe busy planning for that situation. It’s easy to talk about such planning but it is exceptionally difficult to really have a concrete agreement with a much sought off manager to come in force in a years time .
If we had Director of Football, he may bring stability, but again if we were too successful D o F could be lured away with a big bucks EPL, offer
Our best hope is to get Ange and B R to work together in 3 year cycles as Manager / DoF.

8.) 13 Jun 2025 11:35:15
Thing is, Wee Des, if AP is in a helluva good job and is motivated where he is, do you think he'd step down to come back to Celtic? We've been pretty lucky with managers over the past few years and that's down pretty much to DD. I know some on here would fancy Davie Moyes but he's not for me. There, we're speculating on who's going to be replacing BR before we all know whether he'll be away in a year's time or not.

{Ed007's Note - I don't see Ange ever managing Celtic again, why would he want to? He's been here, used the Celtic job as a stepping stone to the richest league in the world and will now be looking for his next adventure - maybe Spain, even Turkey or the riches of the Saudi League. I'll be surprised if he manages another English club tbh.}

9.) 13 Jun 2025 11:54:23
Ed, do you think Ange's potential is higher or greater than BR's? Cos I do, by far.

{Ed007's Note - I think just with Rodgers name & reputation, his time in the limelight as such in the Pub League and his ties to that league that he will always will be held in a higher regard than Ange- who turns 60 this year so that's going against him for potential - and who is seen as a bit of a flash in the pan by the English media and possibly only as a short term option by clubs, maybe a newly promoted team or a club battling relegation in a few months might fancy him to gee things up a bit. There's no way say a club like Brentford would consider Ange to replace Frank, he doesn't suit that type of set-up and a lot of those mid-level PL clubs are ran that way, more a head coach role. The EL win is massive for him to have on his CV, especially at a club like Spurs so that might get teams on the continent interested.
I don't think either of them will ever get a "top" job, although Rodgers has years in front of him, but I do think if there was a job going, especially in the Pub League, and it was between Rodgers & Ange then Rodgers would get it.}

10.) 13 Jun 2025 12:06:03
ED007 my thoughts too, he used us then walked away for CASH (no problem in that but the way he did it left a sour taste)
If present Board still in place no way will they even consider him
You saw Pedro and the other Board members faces on his last game for us they were all like thunder.

{Ed007's Note - ????

11.) 13 Jun 2025 12:43:45
I'm actually surprised at that Ed, but fair comment.

{Ed007's Note - ????

12.) 13 Jun 2025 13:47:20
At least ange waited until the end of the season to leave but I don't think we will see him back at celtic as manager.

13.) 13 Jun 2025 13:54:40
BR will do what benefits BR, he doesn't care about Celtic, other than to raise his profile,

14.) 13 Jun 2025 14:06:34
I was obviously meaning if he was still without a club he would return, not if he had went to another club, I'd take his football over Rodgers backwards, sideways boredom any day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

15.) 13 Jun 2025 14:46:12
Personally am keeping an eye on Craig Bellamy at Wales, so far he’s doing really well and he’s mentioned how much he loved his time at Celtic. doesn’t seem the type to mess about with, you never know.

16.) 13 Jun 2025 17:06:56
I am sure every reasonably successful manager will do what suits them best . It would be the height of stupidity for any Manager to put a club ahead of himself or even his family .
Most managers know that a wee spell of bad results and they know they are in trouble .
I mention the Ange BR rotating 2 or 3 year Director of Football / Manager as 2 people who have recent success at Celtic and yet nobody sees either committing themselves long time to Dir of Football .
We can be certain sure if either of these or anyone else were successful Directors of Football, the pub league moneyed clubs would have them away within months.

Sorry if I've missed it but has anyone heard of even got a guess how many will travel down to Birmingham for the day without tickets?

Celticmad73

1.) 26 Jan 2025 05:54:15
I’m hearing 15,000 going but surely that can’t be true. I have tickets for two different fan zones. What I do know is Luna Springs venue has been extended several times, and I think it was an initial 3000 person venue. Only what I’m hearing and seeing so may be well wide of the mark. What I do know is I will be on my train down from Carlisle 08:07am Wednesday morning with an over excited 13yr old daughter what she doesn’t realise is her auld da is more excited than her lol ?.

Hail Hail ???.

So guys, we have virtually spent nothing so far. Now it looks as though Kuhn is going (Great bit of business in my humble opinion) how much do we realistically think we will spend this window. I know spending doesn't guarantee you success, but I would like the board to show BR that we want him to stick around. I think he will be away next summer anyway, but if we can now go out and part with 25/ 30m that would be a statement.

Correct. I've never understood that, either. Our Sky box looks quite lonely up there on it's own. I like my stadia. ☺️.

Let's be honest. The main stand needs upgrading big time. I may be in the minority here, but I think 60,000 is fine. I would be very happy if most of our available funds were spent on a total renovation, not necessarily an expansion. The stand inside is too small. Better facilities for European nights is a must. More corporate boxes/ hospitality would pay for itself in a few years. For the sake of a couple of million quid you could get rid of the pillars in the north stand. I read somewhere that we needed these because of the cemetery behind? Remember it already overhangs. Celtic 'bought' the air/ space from GCC back when the stadium was being redeveloped. And finally, major upgrades to the concourses are needed. Kiosks etc. I am ready to be corrected on anything. Cheers folks. HH!

Oh, the pressure is getting to Ed. That was a bit harsh, mate.

{Ed007's Note - What do you expect me to say, sorry that there's a rumour that won't go away I don't know is true or not? Posts like that is one of the reasons I keep my powder dry during transfer windows nowadays.

It's got to be done. With the cash reserves we have. Half of it along with borrowing and maybe naming rights would see it become doable. Maybe this is what the board have been saving up for Putting it off for another 5/ 10 years is just going to make the issue worse and far more expensive.

This squad needs a really big refresh. We all need that. Engles in my humble opinion should go. Should get our money back on him. Hatate also. I think with what they would bring in, along with all the other usual suspects then we can really improve in areas we all know have been put off for far too long.

Bit of a depressing post considering we have just won two trophies, got 4 in a row and performed admirably on Europe?
