McGinn looks like he is heading to Aston Villa.

BigBhoy

1.) 07 Aug 2018 13:18:56
If he goes to Villa for £4m, the same fee we paid for Broony 10 years ago, will we think the board have played this right? A year down there and he will move on for three times that at least. A dangerous game we are playing.

2.) 07 Aug 2018 13:28:34
It’s terrible MP. Celtic standing around kicking the dirt with our hands firmly in our pockets. Somethings not right in my eyes and it’s begginig to bug me. The weeks keep going by where we are no stronger than we were. Lost 2 stand out squad players. Not replaced them, and potentially going to lose our “best” centre back. I guess they will not be replaced any time soon.

3.) 07 Aug 2018 13:42:48
We want top dollar for our players, but don’t accept others want the same. To me £4m is a snip. The fact we could get him for £3m is a worry that we don’t pay that. It screams cheapskate and all the talk of adding quality is bollocks as he is quality and a good price. It will come down to Hohn but you actually want to be wanted. Typical Celtic in my view. And nowhere near good enough. Let’s hope sense prevails we sign him and move on to the others we need.

4.) 07 Aug 2018 13:56:47
Well said MP!

5.) 07 Aug 2018 14:56:01
He's not going to go to the championship. Relax.

6.) 07 Aug 2018 16:38:00
Why should we pay 4 million for a guy on the last year of his contract.

17 Jun 2017 11:26:07
Hello ed

Do Celtic still have any interest in James McCarthy or is the interest long gone?

BigBhoy

{Ed007's Note - Celtic and McCarthy are still hopeful a deal can be done with Everton.}

1.) 17 Jun 2017 12:09:40
Great to hear. Would be some signing.

{Ed007's Note - I think so too.}

2.) 17 Jun 2017 13:42:08
Duverne, Roberts, McCarthy, Onyekuru.

We'd win the CL haha.

3.) 17 Jun 2017 14:02:40
Any idea how much they want for mccarthy?

{Ed007's Note - No.}

4.) 17 Jun 2017 14:04:15
How does that work ed, are both Scottish and English teams not governed by the same home office rules regarding work permits?

{Ed007's Note - He's a much better chance of using the exceptional talent rules to gain a work permit for a Scottish team than in the English game. We've used it for Wanyama and more recently for Eboue Kouassi.}

5.) 17 Jun 2017 14:19:25
Never seen the bhoy but hope he's a good yin quite a big fee for a youngster but hopefully worth it.

6.) 17 Jun 2017 14:25:24
Cheers ed.

{Ed007's Note - (yes)

7.) 17 Jun 2017 16:23:53
Signing Onekuru could bring problems for us in the longer term . If he didn't improve his % of international appearances we may have a player who doesn't qualify for a work permit in England and hence resale value may not be great.

8.) 17 Jun 2017 16:16:25
Ed007 . Thank you far clarification that a work permit for a footballer can be easier to obtain in Scotland than in England .
I think it was two years ago when I tried to make that point but I was laughed at and sneered at .
Long runs the fox but in the end he is caught.

05 Apr 2017 17:57:11
Celtic supposedly interested in Ovidiu Popescu who plays as a midfielder for Steaua Bucharest.

They are looking for 8m though so this transfer would be highly unlikely.

BigBhoy

1.) 05 Apr 2017 18:35:43
I already had a post on this on the others page . A statement from his chairman said he has just had a wage rise but expects to loose him soon for around 3 million mark . The club won't stand in his way . My thoughts are where does he fit in? Why another centre mid after buying eboue?

2.) 05 Apr 2017 19:20:36
small change to us bb lol.

3.) 06 Apr 2017 15:37:33
Is he a CAM? Because his stats aren't too clever if he is.

18 Feb 2017 11:53:24
I heard Celtic are interested in Benoit Costil who plays as a goalkeeper for Rennes. He out of contract in the summer so can pick him up on a free.

You heard anything about this ed or is it just bs paper talk?

BigBhoy

{Ed007's Note - I wouldn't be surprised at all if we're interested in him but Fiorentina who thought they had a deal done in the summer will probably make another move along with Nice which the player would prefer as it means he stays in France.}

17 Feb 2017 17:19:17
Just seen on the Chelsea page that we are interested in Dominic Solanke.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and can play up front, on either wing and even attacking midfield.

BigBhoy

1.) 17 Feb 2017 18:08:16
Nice shout but he is looking for £50K a week for a new contract
from Chelsea and apparently Arsenal and Liverpool are looking at him.

2.) 17 Feb 2017 18:56:42
He would be a fantastic player, but not a chance he will arrive in the summer, if he does then BR will make him better.

3.) 17 Feb 2017 23:02:33
Having had my FM cap on, looking at who I would like, who is a free etc., this would be the ideal signing up top for me. Good pedigree, a bit versatile, and maybe somebody that could come in not expecting to be nailed on, but willing to make an impact. Chelsea pay their youngsters top dollar, but the overall package would be worth it imo.

4.) 18 Feb 2017 00:52:44
No way, obscene money, for an average player, there are kids starving all over the place, so some people want to pay these guys more money, so they can put another few Ferraris in there garage, changed days from the red clydeside.

5.) 18 Feb 2017 01:48:06
Apparently he turned us down in favour of Liverpool.

{Ed007's Note - That's not true, he's not been given permission to talk to anyone but he didn't need permission to talk to Celtic -different FAs and the 6 month rule. Ed002 explained it on Liverpool or Chelsea earlier. I'll try and catch up with her tomorrow to ask a couple of obvious questions like why even meet Celtic if Chelsea don't think he's worth the money he's asking.

6.) 18 Feb 2017 01:44:17
Aindoh, whilst I can totally appreciate money may be better spent in a football sense, by a club. Don't go using the 'there are kids starving line' dude. It's too blase really. All over the globe and throughout society money could be better spent. You might as well say somebody's season book money could be 'better spent'.

7.) 18 Feb 2017 11:38:14
There could be legs in this. Same circumstances as MD come up here for no fee play a couple of seasons in Champions League make a name for himself whilst winning trophies with the best team in Scotland then leave for a large transfer fee. It's a win win for everyone.

8.) 18 Feb 2017 11:41:03
Think there's a chance of getting him ed? Can't see us paying the boy 50k a week tho.

{Ed007's Note - I never thought we would have ever signed Dembele so there's always a chance. I'm still waiting to ask Ed002 about it all.}

Hi Ed's, do you reckon we'll ever see anyone else other than us and the zombies competing for the league? Even when one of us has a poor season we're still clear of the rest of the league. Would Aberdeen, Heart, Hibs etc have the resources to compete at some point?

BigBhoy

{Ed007's Note - I don't think anyone outside us and the Old Firm FC are capable of winning the league or ever will unless there is a smaller version of a Man City or Chelsea type of takeover.
There is more chance of Aberdeen or one of the Edinburgh clubs challenging Old Firm FC for second place, their whole business model is base on director loans and that is never a good way to run any business long term, without all that "investment" they would definitely be dragged into that group.
I'll never understand why chairmen and owners of other SPFL clubs don't push for FFP Regs to be brought in to even out the playing field.}

1.) 14 Jun 2022 15:56:27
Yes Ed.

Let's not forget their one and only 9 in a row. Celtic were an absolute basket case during that and, if memory serves me right, for 7 of those seasons other teams beat us to 2nd place. It's not beyond other teams to get a season of exceptional success but that would have to be coupled with us and OF having a disaster. However, a Leicester only comes around once in a generation.

My contention is that most teams don't try a leg to beat us or the OF and until that changes they have no chance what so ever. The owners/ managers of these teams should all get round a table and vow that whatever else happens in the league the MUST give us a game EVERY game. But then again I believe in unicorns and pots of gold at the end of rainbows.

{Ed007's Note - A point against us is like a win for the smaller teams and could be the difference in a relegation battle or the fight for European places so you can understand why managers play like that but it isn't pretty to watch.
Would extending the league giving us more so called "meaningless" games allow & maybe even encourage teams to play a more expansive game?}

2.) 14 Jun 2022 20:22:42
I doubt increasing the amount of teams would have any impact on how most teams set up against us Ed.

I get it if the season is half way through and you find yourself close to the relegation zone - but not from day one. The season just gone for example Rangers lost 3 games - and two of them were against us so that means in the other 34 games only one team beat them. Whatever the rest are doing is clearly not working. Sitting back for 90 mins waiting to get beaten is a total lack of ambition by the other 10 teams. And you are correct - it is horrible to watch. Celtic and Rangers are not invincible and it is very much noted that when teams pressure us (the few that might for 10 mins a game that is) we are not as comfortable as we like to think.

Like I say - the rest should come to an accord where they ALL vouch to give us a game - at least bloody try. If they all do it then it's a level playing field and the details could easily be worked out. I can gaurantee you that if they did that then Rangers would lose much more than 1 game in 34. Imagine the entertainment ( and all the ancillary benefits) that actually trying would generate?

I'm now off to do my family tree to see if niavety is hereditary ED.

{Ed007's Note - I had to Goggle "ancillary" ?

3.) 14 Jun 2022 20:54:16
And I had to Google Goggle!

How much more attractive would our league be though Ed? Fans might just come back to these grounds if they thought there might be a chance of being entertained. A better TV package would almost certainly result (A good topic for your podcast Ed as I believe we have a contract of £30m and the EPL have just signed on for £1.6 billion) . Players would progress further and quicker. etc etc.

Dictionary textbook terminology:
Goggle - verb - to not pay your dues, to leave debts unsettled.
Eg. In 2012 Rangers goggled the face painter for £16.

{Ed007's Note - That spelling mistake was a test to see if you were paying attention ? Would more money/better players make managers change their tactics? Look at the Pub League, the smaller teams still pack the defence when they come up against the bigger/richer teams and try and nick something from the game.}

4.) 14 Jun 2022 21:22:38
Ffp regs were brought in one team would lose out the rest of chairmen so that as a Biggar gap (wrong as it is ) its thesfa/ spl OMI HH.

5.) 14 Jun 2022 21:35:06
Ed - when it comes to sorting problems out in football you'd have better success teaching calculus to a horse than getting coherent arguments from me!

The only way that money would make managers change their tactics is if there was a substantial win bonus for both them and the club for every game. Otherwise, as you allude to, all you get is better paid players doing the same things.

What they need is a manager like Sensei Angelos. In the CL next season WE will be the smaller team (resource wise) but I fully expect Angelos to espouse my ethos. I firmly believe, as history has taught us with Angelos, that it doesn't matter your reputation, it doesn't matter your resources or history, Real, Munich or Juventus, Angelos is comming for you. Angelos is going to have his team set up to get a positive result. We may take a Rodgers hiding or we may get a result. But, all in, I believe we will end up with more points doing that than sitting in hoping to knick a point. I can't wait.

What about you (or other posters) ? Where do the other 10 improve the product and their chances?

{Ed007's Note - Money would help to an extent as let's face it the rest of the league are scrambling about for free transfers and loans - they're looking at what's available rather than bringing in players the management team actually want to bring in. After that I'd look at the coaching at youth levels which is a problem across the board in Scotland, better coaching brings through better youngsters which will improve the overall standard of players.
The most important thing is for clubs to be structured properly with everyone on the same page and a progressive modern manager/head coach that will play attractive football AND be given time to implement the ideas - that's why I said about more teams/games if 2 teams are say midtable but well clear of a relegation fight the managers might allow the game to be played more openly - manager's aren't going to to be adventurous if they know if they are 2 or 3 losses from the sack.
Owners, chairmen and CEO's etc need to take a back seat and realise that they aren't the stars of the show, there's too many clowns running clubs in Scotland who have no serious intention of progressing their club but love the perks that come with being a chairman, with serious investment a club like Aberdeen should be able to challenge for 2nd place.}

6.) 14 Jun 2022 22:04:20
Well - I see you just nicked all my ideas Ed!

On a serious note you are bang on. Youth, youth, youth and time, time, time.

I can't for the life of me understand the minnows that run our game not facilitating a vehicle for our youth to develope properly. Whether that is through an established league for them or whatever they are being sold short. What do the minnows that run our game actually do with ALL the money they get in? How much is sitting in a bank doing nowt?

{Ed007's Note - It is unbelievable and unforgivable that we don't have a reserve league mate, why are we paying money to get into the Lowland League? They've turned that league into a joke.}

19 Jul 2021 22:22:18
Sergio Romero for the GK position anyone?

BigBhoy

1.) 20 Jul 2021 07:15:27
Good Shout👍.

05 Aug 2018 19:08:13
Hi Ed. Not a really Celtic related post.

I just wanted to know which players you rate in Scotland out with Celtic?

BigBhoy

{Ed007's Note - I like Stevie Mallan, Florian Kamberi and John McGinn from Hibs. Chris Cadden at Motherwell and Ziggy Gordon at Accies could play at a higher level, say for a Hearts or TRIFC but not for us. Uche Ikpeazu at Hearts looks like he could shine for them and Scott McKenna could turn out a player but for now Hendry is superior to him.}

1.) 05 Aug 2018 19:38:26
I think Cadden could be coached into another Armstrong quite easily, in fact i would be surprised if we never had a nibble next season.

2.) 05 Aug 2018 20:03:40
A thought he was more of a wide player fg.

3.) 05 Aug 2018 22:02:19
And there is young Cochrane at Hearts as well.

{Ed007's Note - Folk from Larkhall don't count.}

4.) 05 Aug 2018 22:54:14
Now I'm not sure if folk is the right word for the breed you are referring to.

{Ed007's Note - That's my 'keezins' you're talking about!! I'll be telling my mam you're badmouthing her family. :-D

5.) 06 Aug 2018 08:16:16
@mally . I actually think the boy would be a revelation at full back. good engine and can tackle. Could cover our right side nicely.

6.) 06 Aug 2018 01:41:29
Ooft ed is your lineage from out Larkhall way? How did u manage to escape their clutches? Was it luck or intelligence? never mind I guess it was the rub of the green. 🍀.

{Ed007's Note - My mum comes from one of the biggest and most notorious Larkhall familys and when she married my dad most of them cut her off except her wee sis who's the only one I bother about, years later when they all buried the hatchet and tried to talk to me I told them to bolt.}

7.) 06 Aug 2018 20:59:13
Aye your quite right mate anyone who cuts their kids out there life is not worth the hassle, it would kill me if ma kids never spoke to me, it would never happen tho cos I wouldn't let it.

{Ed007's Note - Exactly, Steph. (yes)

13 Jun 2018 16:36:35
Hi Ed's

I was reading on the European pages about a possible European breakaway league happening within the next 10 years.

What would this mean for the future of Celtic FC. Would we be a part of this league or would our future lie in a sort of united British league?

BigBhoy

{Ed007's Note - We would probably be involved in any future second tier to the breakaway league but we wouldn't be part of the initial breakaway, and there's no plans for any British league.}

1.) 13 Jun 2018 17:15:17
Any preference for what you would like to happen ed?

{Ed007's Note - Honestly, Kev I wish they would all just pi$$ off and get on with it and leave the rest of us to get on with it. And unless it was only a midweek league we were joining I'd hunt them and tell them to stick it. I would never support any plan for Celtic to leave Scottish football, it's one of those be careful what you wish for situations for me.}

2.) 13 Jun 2018 17:32:58
Lawwell said as much. I seem to remember this cropping up a few years ago due to big clubs, us Ajax, Porto etc not getting a bigger slice of the CL pie. Did they not try to call UEFA's bluff and threaten to form their own league?

Something has to change, basing it on viewing figures is laughable.

{Ed007's Note - It's all to do with the top clubs from 'The Big Five' leagues England, Spain, France, Italy and Germany wanting more money and control of their own TV rights and advertising revenue.}

3.) 13 Jun 2018 18:28:41
ED It's a bleedin disgrace that the Champions of country that is a member does not go straight in. You now have the situation where, in some countries, finishing FOURTH is as good as winning the league.

{Ed007's Note - And we were lucky to get them to keep the Champions Route, these clubs don't care about us, they don't care if we're in the CL or not with their condescending pish about how Celtic Park's a great arena etc.}

4.) 13 Jun 2018 19:03:47
Spot on Ed Celtic are a Scottish team that should always play in a Scottish not a European or God forbid a British league. As long as teams who are not domestic champions can participate and potentially win the Champions League it will remain the farce it is. I watched Liverpool fans watch the Champions League final in Santa Ponsa and I’ve heard more noise in the chapel what a soulless league and fan base which if you removed the sky money from would die on its arse. The Real Madrid fans were videoing the Celtic fans singing their hearts out for 90 minutes while asking the Liverpool fans ‘Whits the goalie daen Tam’ and pissin themselves laughing much to the amusement of the Real Madrid fans. And was Stevie G string no half getting it tight. They are as much interest to me as Kenny Dalglish’s knighthood.

{Ed007's Note - If we ever leave Scottish football and aren't regularly winning trophies the stands will end up full of tourists and the prawn sandwich brigade and we'd become just another plastic club with money being the only thing we can brag about.}

5.) 13 Jun 2018 19:50:27
👍 Spot on Ed.

{Ed007's Note - Cheers mate.}

6.) 14 Jun 2018 11:02:55
After a couple of seasons in a british league with the tv money on offer we would be challenging for the title.

28 Aug 2017 20:06:20
What would your ideal team (realistically) be for the champions league group stages?

Mines would be:

Ward

Lustig Simunovic Skrtel Tierney

Brown Ntcham

Roberts Rogic Sinclair

Dembele.

BigBhoy

1.) 28 Aug 2017 20:34:27
Damn yes to the new goalie.

2.) 28 Aug 2017 21:10:27
I'd have Ward for sure. I'd also take a punt on Karius. Surely something could give there.

3.) 28 Aug 2017 22:10:51
Switch Dembele for Griff.

4.) 28 Aug 2017 22:31:19
At the moment think I would still give Armstrong the nod over Ntcham. Just feel that he offers more going forward and changes the way we attack as a team.

5.) 29 Aug 2017 18:05:29
Agree on armstrong. I think ntcham should rotate with brown for league games as i feel he is browns replacement. Only play them both together in champions league.

What went wrong for him? Thought he would have been at one of the top European sides by now and not being linked with Fenerbahce and Southampton.

BigBhoy

{Ed007's Note - It wasn't long ago Man Utd were pushing hard to get him out of Lyon and I know Moyes was keen to bring him to West Ham a while back as well - I think West Ham would be a better option for him if that chance is still there and at 26 (Dembele turns 26 tomorrow) I think any move to the Pub League would be his best option to catch a bigger teams eye.}
