Anyone in the know with regards to Turnbull and what has been picked up? Not sure how long medicals normally last but papers are reporting 5 days of testing which seems excessive. To me this seems like the issue is a touch and go affair and the medical/ board are not sure to stick or twist. 3mill plus seems like a lot of money to splash if the player is not right but by the same token some epic players failed medicals before becoming household names.

Remember the sevvies experience with Prodan. If our medical team are being thorough then I have no problem with that. They would be negligent if they did not highlight their findings to the board. Its then up to the board to take a decision on the risk.

Got to say i said a few weeks ago Brown's legs had gone but thought he was a colossus for us yesterday. Sorry Brown you covered every blade of grass and put in a captain's performance. I take my hat off to you. After the defence taking pelters especially after Cluj I thought man for man the defence were exceptional. Hardly gave a sniff all day.

Good result super happy with that. Can't wait to find out who we get in the groups. What a difference between Cluj and AIK. Right at the end last night you could see tactically we had a neat 451 all players in line where they should be. Round pegs in round holes. I think we were naive tactically against the Romanians but we were astute here. I don't think Lenny could risk resting players I think it was imperative that we got through, job done, just unfortunate we picked up a few injuries. Good to see the other side through also, I think it is good for Scottish football, will boost the country's co-efficient and a strong challenger to us keeps us on our toes, hopefully making us better. Good night all round. Now for a couple of signings! There must be at least 20 million to blow with the Tierney money and qualification money banked. I assume a left back will be coming be it Taylor or someone else. Still would like a younger Brown type coming in, a cb and a left winger though I would be happy that Sinclair gets a run (this bamboozled me) . Also is Griffith's done? Seems to have dropped down to 3rd choice last couple weeks. Maybe Bayo is smashing it in training. He seems to be getting fitter after being way off the pace. 3 good strikers is always a good headache to have. Just hope Griffs doesn't throw his toys out the pram. Going to be hard to keep all our strikers happy.

Well not commented for a while and to be honest most of what of what I have to say has been commented widely already. I think the loss was a culmination of what everyone is saying, which has created a perfect storm as you will. Poor tactics. Poor team selection. Poor signings. Poor board management. Poor scouting. The Romanians were no mugs but to me they were just average and there for the taking. We are so weak at full back it is unreal. We have a creaking captain who has lost a yard and to me echoes Roy Keane's last year at Man United. So talismanic for many years I fear he is going to decline rapidly over the next season. I honestly do not know what he was thinking handling it in the box. Bain was poor. The penality was pretty weak and his jelly hands just let it through him. Fine he can play a pass but if you can't keep the ball out the net effectively what is the point. Most technical player at the club in McGregor at left back? Come on. 10 million quid of signings benched. Really? Even sticking on Bayo at the end chasing the goal. What? Boy is probably one of the least match fit players in the team. Piss poor. I watched Lennon with his hands saying to settle. Fair enough but surely he should have been shouting and making tactical adjustments when we got our nose in front. Sitting a bit deeper, playing 4 at the back and hitting on the counter as the Romanians became more desperate for a goal. Can't always be swashbuckling hitting teams for 6 especially at champions League level. We have some good players but we also have positions overloaded with rubbish and positions that are as skeleton like as the hanging up in a biology class. We need a balanced squad that is flexible and can play a few formations, a starter and good back up for each position and a philosophy. At the moment I don't think Lennon has this and knows he wants to play. The danger men for the Romanians were on the wings so why we never played 4 at the back is beyond me. We played into their hands and got mugged off for it.

That cluj side were no better than a hearts or Aberdeen tbh.

Well said Amigo. Marco that's nonsense. They were a good side but ae should have qualified after taking a one all away draw to Parkhead.

Rumours have been fairly light on the full back positions coming in and with this Tierney rumour gaining more traction are we holding off signing full backs as Lennon wants to change the formation? He was talking in the media about different styles and formations. Wouldn't surprise me if he was looking into the O'Neill identikit. We had success with the 352 and potentially we could play 343. I think Forrest could certainly play the Agathe role in this formation. Of course Tierney would be ready made for the other side but if 30 big ones are thrown at this board, I think they would find it hard to resist. The mad thing for me is Wan Bissaka is rumoured to be in the 50 million bracket. If Tierney did make the move his value would be instantly in that bracket before a ball is even kicked. Also if 352 is the way forward we will need pacey strong centre halfs. Is the where the McKenna rumours are coming from? To play left centre back. The French man we have been linked too, is he the new Balde?

Im no tactician but 3-5-2 is outdated and easy to catch out with long balls.

2.) 23 Jun 2019 15:05:44
Get what your saying but I would argue if your playing 4 at the back and have two bombing full backs you can be countered with long balls. I would assume in a 352 if you are defending it would be more like a 532 with the wing backs going into full back or a 4132 with the central defender stepping out to act like a defensive midfielder the wingbacks going into full back position and the attacking midfielder dropping back to hold shape. Also the extra centre half gives you the added protection for long balls if they are set correctly. Pretty sure England played a 3322 the world cup that didn't do too badly. All formations have their strengths and weaknesses but I am just suggesting if Lennon fancies playing more direct and quicker that he may look at it to accommodate the second striker.

I got round to answering that Steph (Y)

4.) 23 Jun 2019 19:05:06
Cheers jamie.

5.) 23 Jun 2019 19:12:41
Cheers for taking the time to do that jamie, I'll show it to my mate n see if it makes more sense to him after reading that. At the time he bought them he had no intention of selling them but needs must right now so he reluctantly sold them. It just doesn't seem right that shares can be diluted like that, but because he had no intention of selling them he probably didn't pay much attention over the years. Done now tho, I was just curious. Thanks again.

6.) 23 Jun 2019 20:15:38
Your welcome Steph anytime, That is a long time to hold on to shares not to have made on them buddy (Y)

Glad to see the Turnbull transfer fall through. I like Turnbull, think he has had a good season and has a load of potential but his wage demands were steep. Good luck to him but I think if he was clever he should have joined us, improve his performance and skills and in a few years look for that bigger contract. Celtic to me would have allowed him to grow on a good wage and would have given him the perfect platform to test himself in the champions league etc and gain a winning mentality. We move on though and to be frank we have other positions that are more pressing. Midfield and the wings ain't bad but right back, centre half and left back are required more urgently. I would fire in a bid for Taylor (Killie) for left back. I think he would help Tierney push to new levels and I don't think he would cost an arm and a leg. Probably a problem recruiting here though as most players know they are going to be understudy for Tierney with perhaps leaves options rather limited. I think we should definitely be looking for a solid centre half and right back. Most of our budget should be spent in these two key areas.

I think wee need better than Taylor’ mate starting to believe tierney could be on his way what your thoughts lads?

2.) 20 Jun 2019 07:16:53
I agree that Taylor is not the swashbuckling sexy signing most of us crave but my thinking was Tierney has that position nailed and as long as he isn't sold I think he would be decent back up without costing an arm and a leg. If Tierney is sold then it is a different ball game. For number 1 left back I'd expect a much better signing but I am hoping Tierney stays for at least another season. A decent understudy for him would allow for rest breaks in the cups or easier league games. The bigger hitters in this squad are playing a power of games because the squad as a whole is terribly lopsided and the back up is pure pish. I think a few solid signings for the problem positions and strong young up and coming squad players is the best we can hope for.
