As a supporter my sole focus is on the men's first team. yes that might make me a dinosaur and times have moved on.
However the board have a monster of a business to run and if truth be known they are doing a tremendous job.
But as a supporter I just can't understand there unwillingness to push the team to the next level.
I don't buy the party line of "they are working hard in the background " because there is a pattern that is evident that as a team we are just doing enough to stay a head of rangers.
The board are actually so clever they employ the best managers to work under there constraints and they for the most part are successful.
The fact is they are now taking the piss out of BR for the 3rd window of his return.
I for one wouldn't blame him for getting itchy feet again.

How long has the window been open. are we to believe that in the whole world we can't find a quality lb cb striker within our budget that can help the present squad. if they want idah and iam sure brendan does then they have to pay the fee it's a bit like our valuation of mor atalanta have been rebuffed twice but if they pay what we want they'll get him. baffling way we do things never understood our philosophy.

The board are giving Brendan more control, last summer we signed loads of players, all very quickly, and for decent sums of money. Since then Brendan has insisted on acting as quality control (which is no bad thing) . But it means signings are much harder. It's easy to sign players that clubs want rid of or who are desperate for a move and their agents are hocking them around.

It's much harder to sign players that are settled and their clubs not wanting to sell - surely this is obvious? What's the point in just signing the first 9 players that agents offer us? Most of them will be terrible, that's what rangers have done and they will fail miserably as a result.

Signing good players takes time, and is often not possible owing to fee/ wage negotiations, other suitors, etc.

But idah is the opposite of settled so pay the money. we have one striker going into the 2nd week in August you'd think that it would be a necessity and top of the agenda to give the manager another option. look at kyogo o sun he looked as if he wanted off but we had no-one and that's a sad indictment of our club.

Trying to see the bigger picture here (maybe poorly) . I'm with Gerry on this. Yes I distrust the men at the top but getting better players to take us to the next level takes time, patience and negotiation with the selling club and the players agent I trust BR.

A club with so much money they are declaring it to the stock exchange must have the funds to at least buy three quality players, not to mention installing sell-on clauses that can be in place when they leave to protect and even multiply their investments.
There are plenty countries out-with the major leagues where quality players can be found to suit our budget as we have done in the past.
We have even sold or discarded others to accommodate financially and numerically any additions that the manager has identified.
The polar difference between recruitment last season and this makes me wonder who are the real problem?

Idah wants to come and we want to buy, but Norwich don’t want to sell, and they are a wealthy club so what are we supposed to do? Pay more than we think the player is worth? If it’s true Norwich want over £10m for him then surely it’s a stalemate. We can’t just throw money away because we are cash rich.

This is Idah in isolation but applies to any player where a club doesn’t want to sell. MOR being the perfect example. Atalanta maybe feel £15-18m is a fair price (maybe it is) but we have no interest in selling at that figure.

Honestly, some folk on here would have us happily pay 150% or even 200% of a realistic valuation just to get a deal over the line. Is that how you manage your own budgets?!

Thats not what iam saying. iam saying if we truly want the boy then surely we push the boat out the money is there. nobody knows what norwich want so that's just speculation. times batching on something has got to give. if they don't pay the money for idah we could always do what we usually do and get an inferior player for less money.

Celtic must be confident that we can still sign Idah or we would’ve moved on to Plan B by now.

I would still rather be in our current situation waiting on decent Brendan Rodgers approved signings,
Instead of what we witnessed last year.
Although it is very frustrating to watch.

Last year we signed several players, who struggled to get decent game time and it’s similar to what Sevco are now experiencing.

Not a mathematician but holding onto MOR makes utter financial sense even to our money mad board.

Even if we pay him £100k a week, he is our only reasonable chance of getting into knock out phase of champions league. One home tie would pay his wage for the whole season. His value would be enhanced and he gets a bigger move.

Not difficult decision for me.

Buzz I agree with you regarding Idah, to me it seems that it has now became a blinking contest with Norwich, they want a figure, we are relying on offering them a lot less than they value him for but don’t want an unhappy player on their hands. If so, leave it on the back burner and move on to work on a left back, another centre back or the winger we want. Why not move to sign the third forward rogers wants? I read today o Shea prob won’t come to us now as Brentford are coming in for him for 7 million and we can’t afford his wages. Surely the club know roughly what sort of a wage these players want, if we can’t shop in the epl, don’t as we can’t entice players with wages . Or was it another name drip fed to us that we are sniffing around, around renewal time. Just like last season when the rumour was we are ready to move to the next level of player ( similar to red bull) averaging higher fees to bring in better players and higher sell on . We all know how that went . What little faith I’ve had in this board to deliver has obviously disappeared for me .

JJ how can you claim the board are doing a tremendous job and then rhyme off multiple ways they are holding back the manager, the squad and the club as a whole?

Kev we are one of the best run business in the country and by far one of the best run clubs in the uk.
My point was that only if the saw it from a supporters point who only cares about the team.
The business has many strings to it but a successful team on the park is the key to the whole business being successful.

I get where you're coming from but I can't agree. Domestically there's very little you can grumble with, the trophies speak for themselves, but we've been given a fantastic opportunity with back to back groups and made a complete mess of it. Lawwell said we budget for Europa League but when you do that, you end up getting skelped in the Champions League. And the Europa League. And the Conference League.
