Just back from the Tommy Burns Story.

Fantastic. Not a dry eye in the house.

It reinforces how much Celtic and Tommy are just part of our lives and collective experience.

I'd recommend it to anybody with green and white blood flowing through their veins.

What a team he put on the park. Ange is the best football I've seen since.

God Bless Tommy Burns.

Well said JFP and that’s great that you enjoyed the show.
I still think that Tommy Burns deserves more recognition at Celtic.
Maybe name the training ground in his honour because he was brilliant with the youngsters at Celtic.
Or go a step further and call the North Stand - “The Tommy Burns Stand”
The fact that it was the old Jungle and everyone knows how much it meant to Tommy and how much Tommy meant to those Celtic supporters.
It’s nearly 15 years since Tommy sadly past and everyone still talks about how wonderful Tommy was.
In the next 50 to 100 years there will never be another Celtic man like Tommy Burns to wear our famous hoops.
I would rename the stand ASAP.

{Ed007's Note - 100 million percent, Buzz about TB. I've been saying for years that something - I said the training ground and I'm sure there was a petition started by Celtic fans about it - should be named to honour the man. Maybe the fans could pay for the next statue on The Celtic Way to be of TB?
I've spoken at length on here over the years that we should put up a new fan-funded and voted for new statue say every season to honour one of our greats or a great group achievement, a walk up The Celtic Way could be like a walk down memory lane.
I also think Johnny Doyle and Phil O'Donnell should have some sort of recognition on there asap.}

The football we played when he was manager was and still is the best I've seen!

I agree Ed.
Modern day football is different and Testimonials will be a thing of the past.
We should honour the players who have done the Hoops proud.
I think using the Celtic Way as a memory lane for our fans is a brilliant idea. ?.

{Ed007's Note - Willie Maley, Jimmy McStay, John Thomson, players and staff that served in the wars, something for the 1938 Exhibition Trophy & Coronation Cup (trophies that'll never be won again, the 1970 EC Finalists, Paul McStay, the 1998 League winning team, the Seville team, the Quadruple Treble winners to be going on with, and in years to come what? Does Lennon deserve a place in the future for services as a player & manager? Scott Brown?}

Buzz/ Ed

I agree 100%.

Name the north stand after him and erect a statue.

Legend.

I loved Tommy but even I was taken aback today just how our lives were intertwined and what he did for Celtic as a player and as a manager. He died the night my mother was taken to chapel and we won the league at Dundee.

Ed, he says in the play tell Johnny Doyle and Jinky I’ll see them soon. We’ll have some team.

The way they brought his famous quotes into the play was something else. ‘When you play for Celtic - you play for a people and you play for a a cause’. After the 88 cup final ‘They’re there and they’re always there’. I was there.

The play covers his funeral and the audience joined on with ‘Walk with me oh my Lord’. I went to Celtic Park when he died.

Fittingly it ends with a ‘fan’ touching his heart and saying ‘Tommy Burns is there-and he’ll alway be there’.

Then ending with you’ll never walk alone with everybody standing.

I’m always proud to be a Celtic supporter but even more so tonight. I think I was even taken aback just how much Celtic, my fellow supporters and Tommy mean to me.

Thanks lads.

{Ed007's Note - Paul McStay is my favourite ever Celtic player but over the years TB has became my favourite ever Celtic man, we always knew how much he loved the Club and how much of a good person he was but what we have found out about him since he passed, the things he done behind the scenes from Scott Brown sister & PoD's family when TB himself was seriously ill, to wee Feruz and even lads like JP McBride has shown he was a special man and Celtic and the world in general is worse off for him not being here.
The world would be a far better place if there were more men like TB about ?

Ed

100% as a man he is the greatest ever Celt for me.

Paul McStay is still the first name on my best ever Celtic 11 in my lifetime.

Boruc

McGrain Elliott Van Dyke Tierney

McStay and no idea who else but Lubo and Murdoch must be a shout.

Larson and Dalgleish.

Manager: Stein. Assistant: Tommy Burns.

{Ed007's Note - I'd have Tam Boyd in before KT for a start ? even our past podcast guest Jackie McNamara.....}

Ed

Point taken it pained me even putting KT in but I’m going on ability rather than service he’s certainly a long way from being a Celtic legend for me due to his relatively short time in the first team.

I don’t actually remember him much other than singing with the green brigade.

It should probably be Tommy Gemmell who scored in 2 European Cup finals and maybe even Dariusz Wdowdzwk for me.

{Ed007's Note - Wdowczyk was a cracking player as well to be fair.}

7.) 09 Jul 2022
09 Jul 2022 21:29:31
PS: Jackie is ma laddies choice from his generation.

{Ed007's Note - I think a lot of it comes down to who you've seen playing. I know Big Billy and Jinky etc were different class but I never seen them playing. I wouldn't have Dagleish anywhere even near my bench ?? Never seen him playing for us, I hate Liverpool and Blackburn and he has made some questionable career choices and public statements over the years.}

Fergus McCann is another who doesn't get the recognition he deserves, what he done for this club should never be underestimated nor forgotten. He would be on my Mount Rushmore of Celtic Legends.

Ed

I don’t like Dalgleish and wouldn’t have him in my house.

I remember Celtic and Liverpool winning the league and Dalgleish being asked about his old club Celtic also winning the league.

His answer was ‘Whit are ye asking me fur am the Liverpool manager’.

I remember thinking I’ll no forget that comment Kenny.

Then we had him golfing when his buddie was manager.

An ar$e of a man and by all accounts a miserable ar$e of a msn.

But he was some player.

{Ed007's Note - The fact he is labelled by some as a "Celtic legend" always sticks in my craw, for me you can only really be a legend and one club and Liverpool got the best of Dalgleish.
The only thing I can compare it to in a generational thing I think is when Charlie Nick left us, imagine how a wee(ish) 9-year old me felt when that happened and look how he turned out.}

Where is that JFP? We have tickets for the musical again in September but not seen this advertised?

Ed

There is a lot of commonality here.

When Dalgleish left Celtic I felt how you felt when Charlie left.

Neither are too bright.

And neither are Celtic legends.

Both are fuds.

Everything Liverpool boast about was at Celtic first.

Their best player and their best ever centre half and their song.

{Ed007's Note - ?? YNWA was actually sang first at Old Trafford in a game just after the Munich Disaster but I think that was more the Carousel version than the Gerry and the Pacemakers one.}

Aye Ed. KD was a Liverpool man.
I remember reading where Big Jock stopped him before he went in to sign for Liverpool and Kenny turned him down.
Says it all for me
(he did very well for Liverpool and can't take that away from him but Celtic Legend? NAH! )

{Ed007's Note - Probably deserves legendary status in Blackburn more than Celtic and let's face it Blackburn have feck all else to brag about!}

JFP,

The Tommy Burns Story sounds wonderful.

Just like you and so many other supporters, having watched him play, many times, I've always felt that Tommy was so much more than just a talented player and great servant to the club.

He was one of us, he was a supporter, a supporter who realised his greatest dream and that was to play for Celtic.

Despite his many great achievements over the years he never forgot that, and he never, ever, took it for granted.

I believe it's because of this, that so many supporters took Tommy to their hearts.

He also had grace and humility in spades both on and off the park, what a man.

I agree that the club should honour Tommy and the values that he stood for. The renaming of Lennoxtown has been muted over the years and I think that and possibly some sort of scholarship perhaps, would provide a fitting and lasting legacy.

He twists, he turns, Tommy Burns ?

☘️ ? ☘️.

To be honest, I'd preferred she got me tickets to that. I'll condole myself with Gerry Cinnamon, then the musical though ?‍♂️?.

Agree the pundit. If ever there was a Celtic Mt Rushmore me personally I'd have Brother Walfrid, Jock Stein, Fergus McCann the 4th is up for debate as the most influential figures in Celtic's history.

17.) 10 Jul 2022
10 Jul 2022 07:07:30
What about Tosh McKinley for the left back slit I loved him every time you seen him running and putting in a cross for big Pierre it was nearly always a goal.

Good player I thought about Tosh.

He could certainly hit the byline and cross a ball.

DLBIA,

If there was a Celtic 'Mount Rushmore' equivalent with the same four places available, I'd agree with your 3 and I'd propose to add Willie Maley.

☘️ ? ☘️.

10 Jul 2022 09:20:05
Tosh McKinlay would be my choice at lB, absolute wand of a left peg!

Willie Maley, Jock Stein, Fergus McCann are nailed on imo on the Mount Rushmore of Celtic greats, the 4th? McNeil, Burns, Larsson? Maybe ed could have a multiple choice poll to decide the 4th?.

21.) 10 Jul 2022
10 Jul 2022 13:14:46
The Pundit,

If Brother Walfrid never founded the club there would be no Celtic.

Sorry I meant Brother Walfrid instead of Malley as being nailed on?.
