With Luca Connell's departure confirmed, I wonder if it will make young players think twice about joining us. We pick up a good number of breakthrough players who never seem to be given a chance in our first team. Shaw, Uroghide and Kenny are probably in danger of falling into the same category and it just seems a bit of a waste.

Kev, I don't believe it will make young players think twice about joining Celtic and for me, neither it should, as the challenge is no different at any other club in Europe as far as I'm aware.

Any player with the ambition to play at the highest level and who truly believes in their own ability, should be looking to sign for Celtic.

Many may never make it as a first regular but can still continue to play, earning a good living at another club with the experience of being on Celtics books having helped them on their way to becoming a more rounded professional player.

Whilst in recent years, the pathway to the first team has been very limited, we now have a manager in Ange who gives youth a chance but they need to earn it.

An example of this must surely be Tony Ralston and look at the season he's just had, signed a new 4 year contract and has been capped for Scotland.

Could it be better, yes it could, and you'd hope with improvements in the youth set up and infrastructure that a higher percentage of our young players will progress to and star in the first team at Celtic in the future.

Of the starting 11 players in last seasons first team, as far as I can see, only two were Scottish and only one of those came through the youth set up, which tells me there's some way to go but I'm optimistic we'll get there.

Every big club is the same, there's always a huge turnover of players, but young players are always going to want to come because they're mindset will be that their good enough to make the grade.

I agree with you guys but when you look at Connell, Bolton were gutted to see him go and he was pretty much guaranteed first team football - although I understand they were ein financial trouble. The big move is always going to be tempting but sometimes it's better to stay put and get games under your belt than potentially set your career back a number of years.

Kev Jim Goodwin the Irish U-21s manager said Luca wasted 3yrs at Celtic. He didn't improve as a player because he was out on loan for 3 season instead of being involved in the fitst team under Lennon. Luca was always in the Irish U-21s team and hasn't been involved with them for last 2 seasons. Luca is a very talented young player and I still have high hopes for him as I was delighted Celtic snapped him up.

You summed my thoughts up perfectly Paul. I don't think the club are in the wrong in any way, it's just a shame to see a young lad not living up to his obvious potential. Such is life.

He wasnt good enough. It happens. Watched him a few times in the B team and he looked nowhere near Celtic class. Was worth the punt but unfortunately didn't work out.
