Buzz mate, when and how will the split and the fixtures be decided? . I would look it up but you always explain it perfectly. Thanks in advance mate.

The first game after the split should take place on the weekend of April 23/ 24th.
( The Scottish Cup Semi-Finals will be the week before )
There’s only 4 weekends until the last weekend of the season ( May 14/ 15th ) .
So there will probably be one midweek fixture in the schedule.
The SPFL will announce the post-split fixtures after the 33rd league game of the season.
I would guess we should know our remaining 5 fixtures by Monday April 11th.
Celtic will have 3 home games after the split and 2 away games.
It’s looking like there could be an imbalance in the post-split fixtures because Celtic might have already played too many clubs away from home twice this season.
I don’t know who makes the decision on the remaining fixtures.
I suppose the computer will get the blame anyway.
If the SPFL decide to send Celtic away to the lowest ranked team left in the top 6,
Celtic will be forced to visit Hearts for a 3rd time this season.
Hearts will probably be ranked 3rd next season if they finish 3rd in the league but Hearts were only ranked 11th this season after gaining promotion. ( Dundee 12th )
Celtic could still be forced to visit 2 grounds for a 3rd time this season if 2 clubs from Aberdeen, Hibs, Motherwell or Livingston get into the top 6.
It will make it more of a farce because for example,
If Celtic are forced to visit Tynecastle for a 3rd time this season,
Sevco will play Hearts a 3rd time at Ibrox this season, meaning they will only have to play Hearts at Tynecastle only once this season.
It will be a scandal if Celtic are forced to visit 2 grounds for a 3rd time this season because it’s a possibility.
Sorry for the long reply but it could turn into a complete shambles and the SPFL could’ve prevented it.

Basically it underlines that our league-split is an absolute farce. You can argue that it makes for a more exciting format, but when you can end up with a team (s) in the bottom half possibly earning more points than those in the top half, causing prize money anomalies and the situation above where a team ends up with a clear advantage, we have to ask questions about the integrity of our fixture format?

I recall something similar happening a few years ago and hearts complaining and as a result getting a favourable verdict regarding their fixtures.

Let's hope st mirren pip livi to top 6.

I hope your keeping well Rob.
The SPFL will need to changed the sequence of the fixtures at some point.
( I hope it’s not next season )
If Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts all get into the top 6 for the next 5 or 10 years.
There will be an imbalance to the post-split fixtures for the next 5 or 10 years.
That’s how stupid a decision it was by the SPFL to have Celtic visit Hearts twice before the split instead of Dundee twice.
The SPFL had a 50/ 50 decision to make and they decided to make it harder for Celtic because in my opinion, Sevco need the Champions League money next season or Scottish football will go back to watching Showjumping.

Buzz - your posts are great to read very enlightening- you always answer everyone’s questions- you’re statto of old if you can remember him. Keep up the good work.

{Ed007's Note - ?? I had the pleasure of briefly meeting Buzz - and of waving to his wife - last week and he's a really nice guy. I for one massively appreciate all the work he puts into his posts on here and not just for the information in itself but it saves me having to look all this stuff up and work it all out when people ask questions.}

I don't understand why they just don't do it the simple way? To my mind it is easy to make it fair.

I assume after 33 games we have all played each other 3 times. The perm is obviously that we have played all the teams either twice at home and once away, or once at home and twice away. So is it beyond the wit of man to play the team we only previously played once at home at Celtic Park after the split? Similarly, if we have played them twice at home already then we travel to theirs. Am I missing something here? I am willing to be schooled here lads.

At the start of the season everybody agrees that this is the format. It means no travelling to each others grounds 3 times a season - that is bonkers. I can only assume they put way more emphasis on teams playing 19 home and 19 away games - regardless of the insanity of it. If one team plays 20 home games and 18 away in a season surely that is the better option so that the top six have an even field against each other?

Somebody? Anybody?

Stubbsie, I can understand why you think of it that way but consider this. Doing what you suggested could result in a team playing an unequal amount of home and away games and a season ticket holder could end up only getting 17 home games instead of 19.

{Ed007's Note - We've spoke about this on the pod a few times and if we do away with the split we will need to play 44 league games a season or promote/relegate to balance things out.}

Thanks AAW for pointing that out - never thought of that.

I suppose it could work the other way too - where a season ticket holder might get more than 19 home games too. That is why there has to be an agreement by all beforehand I suppose.

I still think it is a price worth paying though so nobody goes to a ground 3 times as I think that is the greater evil in the fixture list.
