Tonight should remind everyone that europe is not easy, and over-confidence a receipt for failure. There were a number of failures tonight.
Firstly an emphasis on attack and forgeting that a good attack starts with a good defence.
Secondly not matching the other team in terms of strengh and physical height.
Thirdly not changing tactics quickly enough to alter the flow of events.
Let me try to deal with these in order.
No.1 Playing both Rogic and O'Reilly together did not work as neither were able to track back and cover. The need to play both to help provide height in defence was ineffective. We would have been better with Bitton and Macgregor in the holding role and Hatate for the creativity and his running and back tracking. Rogic and O'Reilly could have come on later when they started to tire
No.2 playing a average sized defence is causing problems and has been since Van Dyke left but successive managers have failed to solve this. A priority come the summer must be two 6'4 / 6'6 central defenders who can win the ball in the air. Given the number of corners we had tall attacking defenders should have been able to score at least one goal. Also playing both Taylor{who had a rare awful game} and Juranovic weaken any defence
No.3 This is up to Ange to learn and develop as he develops his team.

It is easy with hindsight but it is also easy to look back at successes from past european games. Pick any great night in Europe and you will find Pragmatism in the tactics used power and strengh in defence and midfield. Not losing the game first should be a must.

I know this will be destoy by those of this site who feel any criticism as treson however these are sentiments i have express before and after previous European diasaters.

My team for next week would include Ralston, Scales Bitton, Geokoumakis, Forrest and maybe even Julien.

Juranovic weakens our defence? What has Forrest done to merit playing since returning from injury last season? Abada miles ahead of him.

Slight over reaction, being 6’4 doesn’t make you good in the air or a better defender Duffy was that and he was rotten for us, there’s plenty of good smaller defenders. we were poor on the night and they were well organised, they are 6 weeks away from there season starting so it’s a game we probably should have won. Nobody got pass marks tonight everyone of our players looked a yard slow, the games not over we can go on and qualify for the next round Ad have taken off rogic a lot sooner after 10 mins we could
see he wasn’t at it and your correct the space and time abada had out wide and nobody slotted him through was a waste. We are top of the league won a cup and still in this think where we were in the summer! ad have taken that no bother in august! Keep the faith.

Just shows how far in Europe we've slipped when a team like Bodo can come to Parkhead and skelp us. Still an awful long way to go. Manager has to be able to identify when it's not working and change the tactics. Also a big mistake to park Hatate.
