Is tonight a litmus test for our side with regards to where we think we are as a team?

We are about to play a team that employs a fast flowing high press - something Anges new team has not really been up against much.

I don't think it is so much for our midfield to front but our backlines performance will be interesting for me. Playing "hot potato" with the ball at the back against a high pressing team worries me.

There is goals in this tie - but how many?

We won't underestimate this team, ange will have done his homework, apparently they're decent.

{Ed007's Note - This is Bodo/Glimt's first competitive match of the season - their league doesn't start until April - and they have lost 14 players from the squad that won the league last year, it would be a shocking result if Celtic don't make the next leg a formality tonight.
How come when Celtic go into qualifiers in July we moan about the timing of them, the players that have left, players need time to come in and bed in - some people even talk about summer football to help out in them ffs - and yet when we face a team that would be a lower standard than us at their best suddenly none of that matters, none of that will affect them the way it does to Celtic?
This is a team that is not only rebuilding they are SIX weeks away from their season starting.}

Hopefully we end the tie tonight.

Think you're doing bodo/ glimt a disservice Ed, they're a really well run and well drilled team. We should be beating them but i don't think it will be a formality.

{Ed007's Note - So Bodo/Glimt are 6 weeks away from their season starting and you know how good they are and how well drilled they are - how could anyone possibly know that, they have only played friendlies and have lost most of their star players from last year like Patrick Berg. The team that got them this far in the tournament has been dismantled.
Maybe if the show was on the other foot and we were playing them in July but at this juncture Bodo/Glimt should be easily beatable at Celtic Park by a good enough lead to kill the tie.}

You are, of course, correct Ed. In a perfect world we should do them like other teams have done us under the same circumstances. I too think we will do them but just because we are a better team.

As for them having lost 14 players, well am I right in saying that 9 of the team we put on the pitch recently were not part of Lenny's Lemons? A good manager can do wonders in a short space of time and by all accounts their manager is more than half decent. I just hope he has never heard of the J League or watched one of Ange's coaching videos!

We are Celtic and we should believe we can get a result against anyone if we set up right. However, some people get nervous and who can blame them after our Galacticos were humbled by Lincoln Red Imps! That takes a while to get outa your blood.

were cophenhagen and zenit not in the middle of a break when they knocked us out of europe?

{Ed007's Note - Are you asking or telling? Either way it means nothing, we beat Barcelona and we beat Liverpool so we should see off Bodo/Glimt - that's same sort of argument.}

I'd like to think that we can beat any team from the Norwegian league, regardless of whether they are up to speed or not, and regardless of whether they have lost players or not.
We had a pretty good showing against a good Leverkusen and a good Betis side so surely we can do over Bodo/ Glimt?
Then again, we have lost to worse so who knows.
I'm just looking forward to some European knock-out football again. Feels like it's been a while.

Agreed @ed007
That team are in pre season just the way it is. It will never change its up to managers coaches etc to get players ready for knock out games whether it's the beginning of the season end or what ever.

You can never assume anything in European Football. A glance at the half time score in Germany shows that.
Never the less Ed, I (and no doubt all the others on here) hope you are right, but Stubbsie has a point. it might not be that easy.
?.

{Ed007's Note - It was only last week people were talking about how far we could go in this, maybe even the final and now we've got people flapping about a team that are miles of the pace fitness wise and hardly played together. ?‍♂️
If Celtic don't win tonight it will be the biggest f**k so far under Ange and I just don't see him or the players dropping the ball like that.}

Don’t think anyone is ‘flapping’ Ed, certainly not me. Just taking nothing for granted, and I hope the players don’t either.

We go at them lads and smash them both ties. We play one way I like that.

Let's believe we can do this.

Not sure we could have played any worse first half. Also not sure the team selection is quite right. Hatate would have started for me. Passing pretty slack and Rogic looks like he has lead in his boots.

{Ed007's Note - We've been awful.}

Quite simply not good enough. This has happened the last 4-5 years if I am not mistaken. Copenhagen, Zenit, Valencia, and now Bodo. Not one has yielded a performance fitting the occasion never mind a result.

It used to be a champions league team we considered ourselves to be, then Europa League, now conference league…. what now? Just hope they bring back the tennents 6’s?

Hopefully a wake up call for those that get far too carried away over domestic success that is obliterated literally every time we step up even a fraction of a level.

I don’t think we have a divine right to beat these teams but we are consistently failing to show up for these games and put up a good account of ourselves.
