Lads, thoughts on Mccarthy against them. I thought he came on and played well, a few crunching tackles. I think he'll do a job for us in the tougher arenas where we need to dig in and battle through a 10 man midfield.

The best clear cut chance from Sevco came in injury time, with a Goldson header.
The chance came from a very poor headed clearance by McCarthy.
James might find himself 4th choice in our defensive midfield role.
Calmac, Bitton and possibly Ideguchi could be ahead of him.
I think McCarthy will be lucky to start another game this season.
To be fair, I still think he’s great to have as backup.

Tbh he could have started and wee still could have beat them the hole team was up for that on Wednesday . But this game on Sunday just as important ?.

When we had Idiguchi, Rogic, Turnbull and Bitton missing and he can't get in the starting 11 I think that tells a story. I agree with Buzz, can't see him playing much this season, or the next 3! A club signing that sadly doesn't look like it will work.

Personally I hoped for more from him but he's exactly the type of squad player I like loads of experience (pass knowledge to younger) and happy to play his part. From the bench.

There's no way McCarthy came here to sit on the bench so I can't see that going down well though agree he's well down the pecking order.

To be honest I think Rogic and Turnbull will struggle to get their places back. The two new lads have been outstanding.

{Ed007's Note - Giakoumakis didn't have any preseason and is only now getting up to speed with Ange's training and systems, McCarthy had no preseason and then had a Covid issue to deal with so he is even further behind.

"We signed them when they had already left their clubs. They hadn’t done a pre-season and they were training on their own. The difference between them and Kyogo, Jota and Carter-Vickers…all these guys that hit the ground running came in very early and had pre-season with us.
James and Giakmouakis came in late. Any footballer will tell you pre-season is the most crucial part of the year so we’ve just got to be patient with them, give them time to get up to speed. They’re both training hard. They’ve had some little injuries which isn’t surprising because they haven’t done pre-season.
The intensity and tempo of training is super tough. It takes players different times to get adjusted to that.
James will get an opportunity and I’m sure when he does, he will show his quality."
