Seeing that O'Connor is away, it got me thinking about the young players we have signed from down south, the ones for the future, how many have actually made it, we keep signing players between the age of 17 -20 and after a few years there away without a single appearance, just feel singing players from other academies just ain't working, would just like everyone opinion on the matter.

{Ed007's Note - Young players need to be given and shown a clear pathway/plan of their future and their eventual progression into the first team squad but sadly under Rodgers and Lennon that just wasn't happening, neither of them had much interest in our youth players and there was no DOF to push the plans forward.
Bayern Munich flew Liam Morrison, his agent and his family over and showed them a presentation of their plans for the player and how they see his career at Bayern progressing over the next few years, Celtic simply put a contract down in front of them with no discussion of their plans for him.
This isn't anything to do with the quality or ability of the young players, it's another failure of the Club behind the scenes and one that hopefully Ange can change before too long.}

I agree totally with that Ed.
A lot of talented young players won’t/ don’t make it for a variety of reasons, however if clubs did provide a career path and the facilities/ expertise to allow them to follow that path it would be much more encouraging for the youngsters and must be in the clubs interests too.
I think that investment combined with some curtailment of the loan market (the loan market as it is currently used/ abused by most clubs does my head in) would definitely be in a club like Celtic’s long term interests and would help football in general.
?.

{Ed007's Note - I think loans can be a good thing for young players to help their final progression, get them out there playing regularly and toughen them up for the future but the system definitely needs a shake up.}

O'connor is a very good young player who was never given a chance.
He should have had a chance to compete with Frimpong for the RB position instead of all the other players we brought in.
There were a lot of Man U supporters who were very unhappy that we got him as they felt he was ready to break into there 1st team squad.

What's your opinion with our youth players? I'll admit I don't take much youth football in so don't no if anyone has a real chance of making it, is there anyone that stand out. Talking about Morrison how is he progressing in Germany, and the other lad who went over, if anyone knows how there doing I'd like to hear.

Ed
Calm down the board are giving Ange money in this window. Everything is rosey behind the scenes. We are lucky to have a forward thinking board who plan for the future. Next we will be getting Hotels and Museums.

So are our young players Not getting a chance.
If we don't rate them but other teams do are we doing something right as other teams think they are good enough to play for them. Is this not a gd thing for the young lads coming through to prove them self's.

I know it’s the old saying if they don’t get a chance, how will we know if they are good enough. But apart from Robertson how many have slipped through our youth system and gone onto better things? Probably not many, as much as we want youngsters through into the team, ultimately the coaches are seeing these players every day and stat wise they haven’t been wrong on a lot they have released.

{Ed007's Note - But they weren't getting a chance under Rodgers and Lennon so you'll never know how good they could be - would Andy Robertson be as good a player as he is if he didn't take the route he took, nobody knows but I doubt it as he went out and started playing every week rather than kick his heels in the Celtic youth/reserve system..
Look at young Dembele, he was told by Lennon that he would get game time last season - I have said it would have put a lot of pressure on the lad going into a struggling team - but he never got a sniff, even in Lennon's first spell, if he hadn't left when he did both KT and McGregor would have been sold and probably for peanuts.}

Another thing with youngster where I no people will most likely disagree, they might have ability and the right attitude but they have to have a bit of luck going there way, if it's injuries to first team players, having the right manager, luck plays a big part off young footballers careers.

{Ed007's Note - Spot on ?
