Just read an article there about how subbutteo is making a come back and gaining popularity again since lock down. I haven't heard of it for years but as a teenager in the 90s, I absolutely loved the game, and even played in a league. A big part of the hobby for me was building the stadium. In my loft was a pretty decent replica of the original Celtic Park, that I was very proud of. I spent all my paper round money on that stadium and spent hours painting crowds members etc. Just wondered if anyone else on the site was a subbutteo nutter back in the days too? And did anyone else build a replica parkhead? Cool game, I might get another set.

{Ed007's Note - I've got and old version up the stairs.}

I got one of the first sets for Christmas in the 60's with the 'flat' players on the heavy bases and went on to collect a lobby press full of teams, pitches and accessories. Great game back in the day and I'm sorry I never kept any of the original gear as it must be valuable?

{Ed007's Note - I can remember in a comic. Roy of the Rovers?- that was like wee snobby private school kids playing in a league. Subbuteo was amazing till computer games were invented.}

I was never really into subbueto wheni was a wean but when you seen your pals had celtic players you wanted it. The hoops were a standout from the rest. Just dreamt you'd wear them one day for real.

Nice one Ed, get it dusted off. You're right, it was killed when ISS and FIFA came out on consoles. I became distracted myself and my paper round money started going to N64 and PS1 games. I'm going to get another set though. Maybe get my young lad into it and away from his consoles. @ONCEABHOY, I've never seen those but just looked them up. Before my time but very cool. It's easy to see why people got so into collecting the stuff. I had every team set from Italia 90, for example.

{Ed007's Note - You're just making me feel old now lol I'm talking about ZX Spectrum & Commodore 64 days with Match of The Day and Kick-Off then Sensible Soccer on the Amiga.}

I cut my gaming teeth on those same machines Ed. My first football game addiction was Football Manager of the year 2 on spectrum. I stayed up many nights coring that game, then would go to school with an hours sleep. and do it again the next night. Always been terrible for manager games, so now I just don't play them at all. Too old for all nighters now.

{Ed007's Note - Football manager games cost me a few sleepless nights as well but I was a complete Elite - the space flying/trading game - nerd and had loads of A4 pads of notes etc.}

Yup I was that same nerd, Ed. Pages and pages of notes, and many many hours spent trawling through them. The last manager game I played before my self imposed ban, was FM2016 and I have a Celtic game saved on it that was into season 2049. Anyone who has ever played one season on FM knows the hours involved, so to play 33 seasons on one save was just ridiculous. I really had to stop playing, but I miss it.

{Ed007's Note - They were the days, sitting there eating cereal out a casserole dish at half 3 in the morning ?
