Just seeing the up coming documentary Mark Walters the racism he faced which I’d horrific but I don’t recall Paul Wilson who played for Celtic getting a mention, paul sadly died suddenly aged 66 in September 2017 he was the first non white to play for Scotland when he was used as a 75 th minute sub against Spain in Valencia in 1975, the abuse that bhoy took you can well imagine nothing short of horrific, Paul was born in India his father was Scots/ Irish his mother was Indian from a Dutch / Portuguese background therefore he was eiligible to play for other countries apart from Scotland, he was still a school boy at St Ninans Kirkintilloch when Jock Stein signed him in 1967 farming him out to Maryhill Juniors the done thing then, in 1970 he made his full debut off the bench v Dundee and scored in a 5-1 Scottish League Cup at Celtic Park, it wasn’t untill 1973 he forced his way into the first team, in 1974/ 75 season he won his solitary Scotland Cap he then created a record scoring in 4 different Hampden Cup Finals, Paul scored in the Drybrough Cup final in August v rangers, he then scored in the league Cup Final v Hibs then in May he scored in the Scottish Cup v Airdrie then the Glasgow Cup against rangers to become top scorer with 29 goals that season ahead of Dixie Deans and King Kenny Dalglish, Paul had a good relationship with Jock Stein he knew Paul Wilson kept his best for games v rangers were he was constantly on the receiving end of racist abuse, Paul said it wasn’t just them who gave him abuse, indeed a former Celtic player thought he was just a guy who took a great tan untill he picked Paul up and Paul introduced an Indian Lady as his mother, Paul said in an interview in 2014 Jock would say don’t rise to them baiting you answer them by scoring against them which Paul took great delight in doing. Paul won 6 leagues, the Drybrough Cup, 4 Scottish Cups,1League cup in his 11 year Celtic career he joined Motherwell in a £50,000 transfer played for 2 years at fir park then joined Patrick Thistle where he retired at the age of 29, he had a go at the licence trade but 3 years later Jimmy Johnstone persuaded him to come out of retirement playing along side him at Blantyre Celtic where he showed he still had it earning a Scottish Junior Cap to make him one of unique in the fact he won his senior cap first, moral of the story their second to everything Celtic have
YNWA.

Paul Wilson took terrible abuse when his mother died it was particularly bad . I was at Walters first game at celtic Park and the abuse he got was shocking . bananas thrown on park, monkey chants and even a prick in a monkey costume outside .

Remember them being sold from boxes outside the ground.

I’m glad I never grew up in that generation as it was almost the norm to be a racist. The fact there was less people to stand against racism back then must’ve been absolutely appalling.

The Walters game was the only time I can remember a concentrated amount of racism at a celtic game . honestly can't even really remember isolated incidents . the prick with the monkey suit took a few punches and a lot of verbals but others laughed though never took part in the any racist abuse .

The Celtic fans gave changed for the better from a generation ago.
And if the Scottish Government are serious about stamping out anti Catholic abuse,
They need to close down all the Orange Halls and stop all the Orange walks in Scotland for good and only then will their next generation have a chance to also change for the better.
