Celtic Football Club today announced that it has applied for planning permission to launch a hugely exciting major re-development of its Training Centre in the East End of Glasgow.

The intended re-development of the Barrowfield site, located near to Celtic Park, would see Celtic unveil another first class training facility, including one of the largest indoor football arenas in Scotland, featuring a FIFA approved top of the range full sized artificial surface.

The new re-development will also feature a fantastic state of the art gymnasium, as well as brand new extended parking and changing facilities.

A further phase of the re-development would also see the construction of new refreshment and grandstand facilities for spectators.

The new indoor facility will allow excellent training opportunities, particularly in poor weather for the Celtic First Team. The complex will also be used by Celtic’s women’s teams and all Academy teams.

Ultimately, the new site will feature 2 full sized outdoor grass pitches, 2 first class artificial pitches, both outdoor and indoor, aswell as an outdoor warm up area.

The new development will complement Celtic's established First Team Training base at Lennoxtown, which was opened in 2007 and has been a huge success.

These new developments will further enhance the opportunities for all Club teams, offering hugely improved facilities and a brand new, first class training environment.

Sounds good.

Kev. If wanting us to spend our money on improving the first team squad is seen as negative then I am afraid I am negative.
I couldn't care less how many hotels or state of the art training facilities they want to build but it doesn't sit right with me that they can find the money for these projects whilst looking for the cheap option regarding transfers.
Last season we fell short in trying to qualify for the Champions league, giving us a better chance of getting there this season should be the clubs priority. Looking at the players we have been linked with doesn't inspire me with confidence that we will do any better in the qualifiers this year.

Is there not some great quotes from tommy burns saying his biggest chalets was not letting the theee amigos see barrowfield before they signed!

Great news for the club

With the over inflated transfer market that we will never be able to afford to compete in Celtic should be seen as a centre of excellence for developing players especially young players.

Gerry if you can't see how good this is for our club I truly despair for you.
This is going to improve our club at every level.
Help us bring even more of our players through.
Look at how teams like Ajax benefit form the millions they plow into this kind of thing and their youth.

The first team could train at barrowfield and it's 2 mins from the park it's a no brainer and an indoor facility is the way forward. How can this be negative.

This is great investment for the future, we probably won't see it's benefits for a few seasons but it will give us a better chance of bringing through our own. Great if they build a stand and we can get to watch the youths and woman regularly in comfort. Funnily enough i heard a while back something along these lines and that Scotland were looking to take up Lennoxtown and ourselves looking to be more 'CP' orientated. Could well be utter garbage and it ain't exactly a rumour but that's what was said. If true though and we have this latest development done, add to it 'another Lennoxtown' plus the Hotel, Museum and Superstore it really would be quite something. A new South stand would be the icing on the cake and although some will moan this will all ensure we stay ahead of the rest. It will bear fruits a plenty and add some much needed extra revenue each season.

Kev. The point I'm making is that spending on the first team should be the priority. I don't see how Celtic should not be able to qualify for the Champions league year on year, but we constantly fail to strengthen from a position of strength. Even in the 3 treble winning seasons the quality of the football has declined in each of those seasons.
Under Ronny Deila the club tried to do everything on the cheap and it took us getting humiliated by Sevco at Hampden to convince the powers that be that something had to change. I don't want to wait until something similar happens before they wake up and smell the coffee.
As I said previously I'm not against these projects, but I would have been happier if we had paid the £5m for John McGinn first.

Few points here.

1) most of the treble treble players were ronnies or lennons players

2) if you think this affects the player budget you've no idea how the club works.

3) why should we have paid 5 million for mcginn when we had a bid of under 3 million accepted?
He turned us down and has spoken about why recently.

This myth the board don't back managers needs put to bed.
Rodger got backed for 30 million before any fees (agents lawyers or signing on) were added on.
He also got a new surface he demanded and a load of improvements to Lennox town.

Kev last season we played important Champions league qualifiers with 2 teenagers playing in central defence. We sold Dembele on the last day of the transfer window with no replacement, it was madness, and if we had been playing in a league of any quality it would have been disastrous.
We need to start and buy players who are better than what we have, with the odd exception this is something we have consistently failed to do over the last 6 or 7 years.
I know full well how our club works and bringing on players to sell for a profit will always be an important part of that, but it shouldn't be the only strategy.
You say Rodgers was backed with £30m, but in his time here he qualified us for 2 Champions leagues, got £20m for Dembele, got the sell on fee for Van Dijk, and got compensation when he left for Leicester, so the club is raking in the cash, and that is not taking into account the better sponsorship deals that the club got owing to his higher profile.
If we make the mistakes of last season and seasons before that, we stand a fair chance of not reaching 9 in a row far less 10, for a club with our financial advantages in Scotland that would be absolutely criminal, and I hope the club are not as complacent as you seem to be.
