Personally I think the number 7 should have been retired when jinky passed away. Might sound silly to some people but would have been a nice gesture for the greatest ever celt

To me its only a number, to young players it could be something to aspire to, our shirts where famous for not having numbers, when did we actually start wearing numbers on our jerseys, I remember uefa forced us to wear them for Europe was it het early 80s?

Sorry thought i'd posted full reply. Meant to say I disagree cause some of the greatest players to play for club have started with number 7 on their back.

Also to say it should be earned could cause problems. What if there are 2/3 players who are all playing amazing football who want number 7, who do you pick?
