Who reported that?

23 Jan 2025 20:22:40
£8:4m Edd we must be paying his tax bill in that fee ?‍♂️.

{Ed007's Note - Someone will be paying it that's for sure.}

Totally hyped to see the boy back.
Until we sign another striker we could see Jota, Maeda and Khun as our front 3.
That will terrify a lot of teams.

23 Jan 2025 21:13:27
I'm under the impression that because Jota is not a UK citizen the tax rules don't apply to him.

23 Jan 2025 21:13:48
guys if we sign Jota and Tierney we are getting two UNFIT players

At least Tierney is getting some game time
The Rennes coach said Jota was a poor trainer
We will have a lot of work to get them up to speed quickly.

Hi all hope you are well. Just checking as I'm a doctor Jim not an accountant. But would Jota not just be due the tax bill if he went back to Portugal this window? I don't get what he would be due tax here but not in France.

{Ed007's Note - Jota left Celtic in 2023, tax year April 2023/24 so he was registered for UK tax, if he came back he would be registered for tax in tax year 2024/25 and there needs to be a 2 year gap between tax periods or you are due to pay tax on your earnings.
This isn't news, Jordan Henderson went to Ajax because of it, when Jota was linked with West Ham it was brought up.

23 Jan 2025 21:26:40
Spot on Scotty.
Due to him not being from the UK, the tax rules don't apply.

{Ed007's Note - ???????

23 Jan 2025 22:40:41
Thanks ed.

{Ed007's Note - ????

I understand the suspicion about jota and the tax side but guys comon, surely the club have looked into it and made sure it’s legit before signing off on it, it would be incredibly naive not to. And we’re only fans aswell, for all we know there could be loopholes around this and the club have hired accountants to get around jota returning.

{Ed007's Note - It's nothing at all to do with Celtic, it would be between Jota & HMRC, I don't see why Celtic would need to hire accountants for that or anything.
Why didn't David Murray find a loophole or hire accountants to help Judas move back to the UK? We've beat the drum about Rangers cheating the taxman etc for years and now we're looking for ways on how a player we're signing can do the same.

24 Jan 2025 11:24:15
Jota left summer 2023 (I think) ? . If so, if he returns to the UK before 5/ 4/ 25, he'll be liable to UK tax on all overseas earnings. I'm ex HMRC.

24 Jan 2025 11:27:57
He will definitely need to pay a chunk to HMRC but reading it won't be as much as someone from UK.
Don't know if that's true.
None of it really matters anyway, it's getting paid one way or another.
I ain't keen on bringing players back but if he hits the ground running then he definitely improves the squad.

24 Jan 2025 15:54:29
Let's hope this ends better than the last ex player coming back from France with a tax bill. ?.

24 Jan 2025 21:03:26
Does it make a difference if he resided in the Isle of Man and only travelled to UK to play . The fact that he is injured and also unfit means he probably won’t play much before start of new tax year.

24 Jan 2025 23:06:28
Playing has nothing to do with anything, getting a wage does.

25 Jan 2025 15:55:25
His contract could be pay for your play for ist 3 months as a trial period . His contract from mid April onwards could take into account his period of pay as he played in previous tax yr.

Well, Matondo is available of you don't fancy Jota?
Jota went to Saudi and hardly got a minute of football, his pre season there was nonsensical. From playing no football he's sent to Rennes, a team in the bottom half, who don't retain the ball and counter attack. So they're asking a player with no pre season to speak of, playing hardly any football, to run the length of the pitch relentlessly - anyone watched Rennes? Awful football.
Will Jota be a success? Yes. But unfortunately he'll need time to get fit and adjust, judge him after the summer pre season and fully fit. They're humans not mechanical donkeys.
And Tierney injuries, old news. Anyone who thinks KT and Jota on the LH is a downgrade is not paying attention.

{Ed007's Note - I must have blinked and missed the part where someone explained how signing an injury ravaged player and hoping he will stay fit is an upgrade, would you say the same thing if we were signing Luke Shaw?
Everybody keeps talking about how we will "manage KT's fitness" but there is not one single Celtic fan can explain to me how that'll work, or maybe I wasn't paying attention then either.
