Bosun Lawal set to sign for stoke in next 24hrs. £2m with addons being mentioned.
Very surprised by this, thought he could have been a useful squad player for us with potential to break into the 1st team.
He obviously hasn't impressed rodgers though so we must trust his judgement. Pity we can't shift lagerbielke and nawrocki as quick.

Don’t be surprised mate, the board will take any money they can especially if it’s someone who came through the youth ranks, business first then a football club second.
As much as I agree we need to be financially stable for our club to survive we don’t exactly need the extra money, I’ve seen enough of Iwata to say I think Lawal should be given a chance instead, but I may be wrong and Lawal may have asked to leave, I wouldn’t be surprised as we rarely give youth a chance nowadays, it’s no surprise these young guys want to move away when there’s no chance of progression, Doak, Lawal, young Daniel Kelly also.

What is it with "the board" rubbish.
Do you think the boy would be going if Brendan thought he had a future at the club.
He is one of the boys along with Holm that Brendan mentioned that had to try harder, he has seen him another few times and has decided that the boy doesn't have it unlike Holm who was in the squad against Killie and came on for the last 15mins.

I agree Mick and as I've only seen a glimpse of the lad against Chelsea, I don't think he's anywhere near our first team.
Good luck to the bhoy.

Mick, there is no way Lawal is anywhere near Iwatas quality. He is slow, clumsy and cannot pass. Good luck to him at Stoke but he is nowhere near good enough for us.

2million foe bosun, well done rhe board for getting 2 million for him.

I never said Lawal was anywhere near iwata’s qualities, I said I’ve seen enough of iwata to comment that I think Lawal deserves a chance. He’s young yes, he’s still very raw with mistakes but let’s face it lads, he’s good enough to play in the Scottish Premiership so why not try him alongside mcgregor to learn the ropes and improve? He’s a different type of midfielder to what we currently have, big and strong and he earned rave reviews at fleetwood last season, worth a try in my opinion, iwata is a poor man’s mcgregor, neat and tidy but not as good.
The point I’m making is that I think he’s off due to the lack of direction he’s going at Celtic, why do so many younger plays want to leave nowadays? can’t imagine because it’s solely they’re not good enough, just my honest opinion.

Mick, I genuinely do not think there is any clear path for them. They get to the periphery of the first team and the path beyond that appears very difficult or non existent.
They get a game or two at the end of the season, may get into the first team squad but very very few will get further.
Unfortunately we do not seem to want to keep many and they see no real future with us and move on in the hope they will get game time elsewhere.
We demand success as a club and appear happier to take other club projects to try and develop them, which makes you wonder if we really value or appreciate the ones who come through our system.
Is it financial or just ticking a box, I don't know but we no longer produce the CM, KT or Jamseis anymore and it doesn't look if we are really trying to.
The whole Scottish setup is poor for young players but as a club we are pushing to have 2 quality players in each position, and cutting the squad size, which doesn't leave many opportunities.

Think this is a mistake, could be the powerful midfielder we are missing.
09 Aug 2024 18:19:22
I don't think we will miss him as any time i've seen any footage of him playing his control is very poor and he just looks like a very average footballer.

We need to remember that most young footballers starting off make mistakes when they get there first taste of professional football, every player needs to start out somewhere so I think it’s unrealistic to really judge Lawal when he hasn’t really been given a chance.
There’s no doubt some lads in the youth set up maybe just aren’t good enough to cut it, but I just don’t think we value the youth players as much as we should. I may be wrong but is this why this new position has been created? Player pathway manager or something like that that Darren O’Dea got promoted to?
The eredivisie is of course a better league than ours with possibly more resources but you just look at the talent Ajax produce from there youth over the years, I know we may not be at that level but I feel we need to start looking at there blueprint and direction and how they actually develop lads from a young age.
We take far too many project players from other clubs that have turned out to be a disaster over the years which has cost a fortune when added up. You might get lucky with the odd one with the likes of wanyama but you lose out more often than not.
