A bit under the radar signing but Celtic have now signed 17yr West Ham defender Justin Osagie. Fighting off interest from championship clubs aswel Justin can etheir play for England or Nigeria and has represented England at youth level. This is a big signing for our youth academy and comes highly recommended down south.

At last a bit of class in the Academy, will make a lovely change. We might even see him play for the team. If he’s got it that shouldn’t be long, if he hasn’t it will he the same as most, a couple of sub appearances then never seen again. It’s the way we roll.

Magicpole, I agree and disagree with what you say.
If our past is anything to go by then the lad will breeze in and probably breeze out again because that's what has happened with a lot of our young talent.
I do think however that Ange is beginning to put a lot more emphasis on our B team with the appointment of Stan as coach. Many may see it as a demotion for him but in many ways it can be viewed as a promotion as it means he'll be in a position to make a very positive difference in an area where we have been lacking for so long. HH.

Time will tell, let's Hope he makes it, make a change.

Bestbhoy the Academy needs a drastic shake up. One player who holds down a position every ten years is a effin joke. I watched the B team highlights and have to be honest and say they not two looked to have a chance and even then they won’t make it, not with us anyway. We produce eff all. Right now only McGreggor is an automatic first team pick. Our Academy is a monumental underperforming farce and has been for 30 years. Ange needs to read the riot act.

Welsh, Forrest, Mcgregor and Ralston all first team players or at least in the squad, as well as MJ, sold Tierney for a scottish record. Not sure how that can be seen as a farce.

That’s five players in over a decade. If you don’t think that’s a farce crack on. Do you work at the Academy?

{Ed007's Note - Or about 1 every 2 years. There's clubs out there spend a tonne more money than us on youth development don't have that number of players in their squad.
I agree it's not ideal but you have to look at the bigger picture, Lennon had no interest in the youth players and KT and McGregor would have been sold or even just let go if he had stayed. Ronny came in and he did like to plan a future where youths would be given a chance but his name wasn't fancy enough and he was forced out and then The Messiah arrived.
Brendan Rodgers was, is and always will be a chequebook manager with no interest in youth development and "Brendaned" more than one youngster's career at Liverpool and when he scuttled out the back door we went full circle and arrived back at Lennon.
In the past 10 years until Ange we only had one manager who had any real inclination to promote youth players. We've recently lost youngsters to Liverpool and Bayern Munich so it's not as if the talent and quality isn't there, politics, egoes etc all come into play and under many of our managers there is no clear pathway or route to the first team. If Ronny had been here longer I have no doubt there would have been more success in youth development and I fully expect that to be the case under Ange over the next couple of seasons.
Everything needs to align with different departments working together for youth development to work and probably a wee bit of luck helps.
Look at Stephen Welsh, he's deemed by clubs to be good enough to play in England, France and Italy but we've got Celtic fans writing him off, where's Andy Robertson and young Hickey now?
The academy is and will get an overhaul but you can't blame the Academy as such, like so many mistakes over the last decade or so has to be laid at the door of Peter Law well and the biggest mistake he made was not appointing a DOF or someone to oversee the entire footballing department and ensure everything was running smoothly and in tandem.}

How many players have our direct rivals produced from their academy in that time magicpole?

{Ed007's Note - Probably more than us, BB but that comes down to necessity rather than choice imo. We've always got money to spend and a lot of fans demand that. Look at the reaction to Welsh or the suggestion that Kenny - a player the same age as Abada when he joined - could be our 3rd choice striker, maybe even 4th behind Maeda.
Fans in general simply don't give young players a chance, we've had posts writing off Bosun Lawal after him playing minutes in a preseason friendly.
Imagine the reaction to Henrik's first couple of games if the internet had been as easily accessible back then? ?
