Hi Ed, how are you doing?
Do you know if there's any truth in the story that Leeds Utd are trying to sign our young Norwegian CB Hjelde and 17yr old Mathew Anderson?

I appreciate it's impossible to hold onto every young player with potential, but on the back of the bhoys we lost last season this would be a blow.

{Ed007's Note - Yes it's true mate. It's a shame about Hjelde as he looks quality and is only going to get better. I just said to Paul that I think he will become a better player than Ajer.}

Agree2 Disagree0

Since you're saying it's a shame, does that mean he's looking likely to go then Ed?

{Ed007's Note - Yeah it looks like he'll be making the move.

EDITED 14:30. Celtic have supposedly offered Hjelde a new improved contract to fend off interest in him.}

As always, thank you for your response Ed. That was my fear as Leeds apparently made an approach last season when he was on loan at Ross County.

Again, as I don't watch the reserves etc I'm not sure how accurate this is but some are referring to young Anderson as the next KT.

{Ed007's Note - Leeds have been tracking Hjelde for a while yes mate. I think every young LB is going to the next KT eh?}

I was thinking about it today. With Welsh, the swede, Murray, Hjelde, Julian comingback and us looking for another CB how can both Murray and Hjelde expectNy playing time? As a club we should be doing all we can to integrate the academy but we also need to win now. Reslly stuck between a rock and a hard place.

It's getting quite worrying that amount of young talent we seem to lose, why not stick them on 3 or 4 year deals, they don't need to be earning top dollar and reward them if they make the grade.

{Ed007's Note - Most of it isn't down to money, Mally, it's down to the youngsters not being given pathways to progress into the first team. The club had no long term plans for youth players while other clubs set out exactly what's expected and where they see the player being in 1 year, 2 years etc etc until you're ready for the first team.}

Ed, u saying both these guys got better chance of playing first team at Leeds before us, can’t see it. Lost in the U23s . All about £££.

{Ed007's Note - Try reading what Mally said again, then read my reply again.}

Yeah your right ED I worked with a boy from Saltcoats last year and he knew Liam Morrison and his family he said Bayern put on a big presentation for him with highlights of him playin and where they see his flaws and attributes and exactly how they were going to work him into the team eventually, they blew them away with it all. Celtic just gave him a contract offer, no effort put in . Although he did also say we offered him 700/ week and they offered him 5000/ week.

{Ed007's Note - A few of the youngsters that have moved on said the same kind of things, KP. Hopefully this is something that will change under Ange and McKay, other clubs have members of staff and that's their job - Fergal Harkin is Football Partnerships and Pathways Manager at Man City - to plan a route for players progression.}

24 Jul 2021 13:41:49
Without a doubt ED it’s something we need to look into sooner rather than later.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

24 Jul 2021 13:43:26
Thats a fair point ed, we should be giving them more of a chance instead of spending 2 mill on guys like bayo and shved.

{Ed007's Note - Or having guys like Bitton clogging up the bench and keeping youngsters out the squad.}

24 Jul 2021 14:08:07
Assuming what the guy you worked with said Kevpatrick is accurate, it comes down to professionalism and offcourse the internal structure of the club.

I'm staggered that given the crazy transfer fees that are being paid these days that we don't have a Fergal Harkin or equivalent - shortsighted verging on madness.

I hope Ange and Dominic McKay can ensure such a structure gets put in place to retain and nurture the young talent we have at CP.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

I can’t guarantee what mark said was true but I believe he knows Morrison’s dad well and it was a conversation with him and he couldn’t speak highly enough about Munich. I couldn’t agree more with you about employing someone in that department, if any of these players we are losing go on to be superstars it saves us a fortune in transfer fees for mediocre players/ experiments in their positions but also we lose a fortune in what we would have got for them when eventually selling .

100% Kevpatrick - Bayern have been (in my basic knowledge of European Football a very well, professionally run and successful team for the past, what, 40+ years anyway) .

We, Celtic, need to quickly understand we're competing with EVERY CLUB, IN EVERY LEAGUE not just those from Glasgow in order to build future success.
