Stephen Welsh has signed a new 4 year deal which will keep him at the club until 2025.
I’m glad because he’s earned a bigger wage packet.

The boys reading of the game is really good, good passing qualities, certainly has potential but think he would be/ is better suited playing in a back 3 beside to dominant centre halves.

I remember on his debut away to Hamilton when Welsh started on the right side of a back 3 and then when Celtic went 2-1 up, we moved him to right back in a flat back 4.
It showed how versatile he can be.

I’m probably in the minority here but for me Gallagher has proved he is better than Welsh over a longer period of time.
Welsh has played many times as part of the worst defence I can remember at the club and looked decent, but who wouldn’t when rest have been so awful.
We still can’t defend set pieces with him in there.
I think he will improve but personally I’m happy to extend his contract on better terms but think loaning him out to other top flight Scottish team would benefit him more as I don’t think he’s ready to be 1st choice in our defence if we want our title back and good run in Europe.

I agree but that’s what I’m saying Welsh is at similar level and should be loaned out to defend in a team that’s defending for longer periods of each game and a new £5m standard of CB added on summer.
