It's a different name every hour via various outlets and these 'sources' are hoping they can guess correctly, in amongst umpteen other speculated 'exclusives' before we announce our new manager.
Personally, I would have hoped that with the way the season spiraled downwards since October, DD would have made his move some weeks ago.
Like the rest of us, I'm just waiting and hoping it's the right man?
Of course whoever he is will not please everyone.

He had said he had been approached about 4 times in the past but he said no, and he came out last week saying he wanted to stay at West Ham.

Thought it was Keane we were getting, his we smile after he said we'll bounce back I thought was telling.

Jonbhoy Keane as manager divides the support, however I reckon if he was here this season instead of Lennon we wouldn't of been woeful this season.

He done well with Sunderland getting them promoted from one of hardest leagues in world and done all he could at Ipswich, a team that is at most bottom half championship side.

{Ed007's Note - Sunderland were in 18th place when he took over and the won the league that same year - even Brendan couldn't win that league.}

Moyes has wh flying can't see us getting him.

08 Mar 2021 20:50:18
What style of play does Keane like to play am guessing old 4-4-2?

Philtim
It won't matter who we get it will divide the support.
People aren't happy with Keane, Moyes or Big Mick. People also aren't happy with Howe or Lambert because they say they haven't done anything.

Ed007 Sunderland is a club like a poisoned chalice these days. To achieve what he Keane did, is remarkable.

Jonbhoy71 I agree mate. Some fans need to be realistic. Just hope we get it right this time.

{Ed007's Note - They've been a poisoned chalice for years behind the scenes, I'm sure it was only that Ellis guy pulling the plug on subsidising the club that stopped Keane's good work there.}

08 Mar 2021 21:11:47
Sorry that should say Lampard and not Lambert.

08 Mar 2021 22:04:36
Ed007 Roy Keane last season in charge, the teams that beat Sunderland were decent teams at the time. Imo better than Sunderland at that time. After Keane left, Sunderland went downhill that season.

I think the Sunderland board were being unrealistic with their expectations. They were expecting too much too soon in EPL. Survival should of been basis to progress.

{Ed007's Note - My memory is a bit foggy but wasn't there an on/off takeover and that's why Ellis Short(?) stopped subsidising the club. I love Roy Keane, Phil, you have no idea lol it's verging on creepy but I don't want him as our manager/head coach- definitely not. But it would have been a different story this year if he had been but if - and that's a big IF -he is going to be involved he would be a fantastic No.2 alongside someone to keep him in check and make sure he's implementing the right processes etc
I would also put him on media duties and do every press conference.}

Jonbhoy71 I think Lampard has potential to be a top manager. Think Chelsea job was too soon for him.

08 Mar 2021 23:14:16
Celtic is equally as big a job as Chelsea as the fans will want instant success and he won't have hundreds of millions to spend either.

08 Mar 2021 23:16:18
Totally agree Phil regarding Lampard.
I've also been reading a story tonight regarding the Man City U23 coach being a target again, I think that would be a really good appointment.

09 Mar 2021 00:21:34
Jonbhoy71 is that maresca? I've genuinely never heard of him until recently, but Man City don't cut corners. If he is part of their set up, then he must have qualities that the club values and that respect is worth a chance.

09 Mar 2021 00:28:51
Ed, I've always thought Keane and deila, which was the plan, would of been a masterstroke.

09 Mar 2021 09:55:53
Jonbhoy, I think it was OAB2 that said it, whoever is appointed will not be everyone's cup of tea.

One thing we can all agree on is that we'd like a Manager/ coach to come in that can combine playing the Celtic way and winning football matches oh and #skelping.

08 Mar 2021 22:44:03
Ed007 I can't remember, all I can remember was the hype that they were going to do this and that which failed.

Ed007 I have a lot of respect for Keane as well. He is a true professional with dignity, loyalty and respect. Have you ever saw his post match interview for Nottingham forest and his response when pressed about transfer to Man Utd?

I think he would be a valuable addition to coaching staff. Joe Jordan never quite made it as a manager but went on to become a highly rated first team coach who Harry Redknapp took to a couple of teams with him.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

09 Mar 2021 09:52:19
Totally agree Ed with your views on Roy. As a number 2 (specialist midfield coach? ) and doing the media work would be great value.

Safe to say fitness levels would be more than allright with Roy keeping an eye on them.

{Ed007's Note - 👍
