I did a bit of research of our top scoring players from the past 30 years or so. Got the stats from Wiki so likely not 100% accurate.
A few things that strikes me from these stats. Firstly we have only had 3 players in the past 30 years to score 100+ goals. I thought it would be more.
Only 8 players have a goals per game record of better than a goal every 2 games.
Also the fact Larsson is top of both goals scored and goals per game highlights that no one is even remotely close to his greatness and that's with the greatest of respects to the rest of them. Usually the more games played the average goals per game would drop but his didn't. We will never see his likes again.

Great list buzz. I think the one that surprised me most was Samaras as I hadn't realized he scored that many goals.
Think we could get ed to edit Leigh Griffiths in, as I think he also scored over 100 goals.

Great work Derry Tim - Leigh Griffiths was very prolific fairly recently and was a wonderful striker of the ball. His two free kicks for Scotland against England were very special, but he hit the ball very sweetly most times. Kris Commons and Leigh Griffiths had the most powerful strikes of all our players for a long time.

Thought Griff was genuinely world class at his best. Sounds daft in hindsight, but he was a very fine instinctual striker, a decade or two out of time.

Sorry yes forgot the Thumb. can't believe i missed one so obvious.
His record is 261 games and 123 goals which actually puts him 2nd most goal. 0.47 GPG which puts him 9th i think.
Great record but what a waste of talent he was. Could have been so much more.

Great list of strikers there DerryTim ?.

thanks, DerryTim: we sure have been blessed with some fearsome strikers over the years. Kyogo can hold his head high among them; may we be able to say the same about the next guy!

I reckon if you delved into goals per minute Giakoumakis would jump quite close to the top of that list.

L Griffiths career up to his leaving of us could hardly be called a waste of talent . As well as being a prolific goal scorer o;the pitch, he scored regularly off the pitch . I don’t know of any Scottish based striker had as loyal a female fan base who produced children for him and gave him one big happy family.
