I'm all for jota coming back, but to basically swap kyogo our main striker for a winger I don't get it.

{Ed007's Note - Why are you all for Jota coming back?}

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Jan 2025 19:48:23
Do you not rate Jota?

{Ed007's Note - I did, what's he done since he left Celtic that you still do?}

23 Jan 2025 19:53:08
I'd rather Kyogo had stayed. Bit fed up with us constantly selling our best players.

23 Jan 2025 19:57:21
Tried and tested proven goalscorer reqd not a project or was good x amount of years ago and hope he can return to that . would jota bring more to the team than maeda? Hopefully maeda isn't leaving and jota is his replacement.

23 Jan 2025 20:05:58
Deep river boy. Meada could be Kyogos replacement got a feeling he might play through the middle and jota on the left. I think meada is our top scorer this season.

23 Jan 2025 20:10:32
Ed, he's went and made himself a fortune, a fortune no sane minded man wouldve turned down. in football termsbhes done nothing, but if he comes back and plays like he did in the main last time round I'll take that. what I don't get is why we basically swap our best striker to get him. but I respect your opinion on jota Ed, same as KT, doesn't mean we all need to agree.

{Ed007's Note - That's my point, Garry, Jota has been away for 18 months hardly kicked a ball in anger and we're all hoping he's stalled and is still that same player of 18/24 months ago... he was miles off the finished article when he was here and I don't see why he will have improved in his time away.
So if we can have the KT of 6 years ago and the Jota of 2 years ago everything's dandy?}

23 Jan 2025 20:11:37
One report I've read suggests we sold Kyogo for 12M Euro and Jota cost 10M euro.

Whatever the fees, I'm sorry to see the wee man go as he's been great for us and some of his play and goals have been brilliant, top drawer and played every game with a smile ?

If we replace him with a quality striker it would soften the blow.

As for Jota, if he signs and can find anything like the form he had with us previously, then he'll win games on his own.

We just need someone up front to stick it in the pokie.

☘️ ? ☘️.

23 Jan 2025 20:31:05
Was thinking that but can he consistently deliver as a main striker? So pushing him out of a position he's doing great in this season to accommodate Jota could prove bad move.

23 Jan 2025 20:37:50
Agree drb. Let’s hope we go and sign a quality striker as one is badly needed.

23 Jan 2025 21:06:48
Idah plays ahead of Maeda through the middle surely. Although Maeda playing on the shoulder of CBs that aren't pinned back is an interesting one.

Jota WAS a better than Palma is. I'd back him to still be. That's what I'm thinking about Jota. Better competition and better depth is better for us. However 10m for depth is steep and this just seems a bit odd.

23 Jan 2025 21:23:44
Think you are being a wee bit unfair on Jota ED.
He went for life changing money which would set himself and his family up for life and then his manager got sacked a couple of months later.
I'm sure the same thing happened at Rennes, that could happen to any player.
I for one am buzzing that Jota is back and can't wait to see him on one wing and Khun on the other.

{Ed007's Note - And all that improves him as a player and us as a squad how? He's rich, the Saudi move mess was nothing to do with a change of manager and the current Rennes manager says he is lazy and a poor trainer... but all that can happen to any player, maybe Celtic can find more like it.
People are asking why Kyogo would leave Celtic to join a team struggling in the French league but I'll ask why Celtic are signing a player that can't get into a team struggling in the French league, he's 26 in March and has done hee-haw for 18 months, we've actually managed to find a player who has played less games than KT in the last 2 years.
Does anyone have Boeriggter's number?

23 Jan 2025 21:30:28
@ed - there is always an unknown element with every transfer, even a player who was here previously.

I am happy to give Jota a chance, although I am slightly uneasy with such a big outlay on him and would have possibly went for a cheaper option.

23 Jan 2025 21:42:07
Ed other than what looks like KT and Jota, any idea on who else is likely to come in?

{Ed007's Note - I really don't mate apart from what's out there, sorry, I thought this was going to be a quiet window with a winger and maybe a CM brought in but in the last 24 hours it's went crazy with rumours.

23 Jan 2025 21:48:43
You seem a bit raging about this ED, maybe you are wishing the transfer window shut tonight.

{Ed007's Note - I stopped raging about transfers years ago, there's far more important things in life.

23 Jan 2025 22:15:50
Aye, like Manchester staying in one piece.

23 Jan 2025 22:40:51
The one position that's baffled me and hasn't been addressed is the role Broony played. he left, mcgregor is then pushed back one which in my opinion happened 2/ 3 seasons too early for mcgregor as he's better further forward, how can we not have replaced a guy like broony.

{Ed007's Note - I've said that for years, losing Brown and the switch from 4-2-3-1 has impacted the team and especially CalMac, he thrived with a proper CDM beside him allowing him to get the ball and control the attack.

23 Jan 2025 22:32:28
I’m with you on this one Ed. Disagreed on KT as you know because he was Scottish, but this move is poor. Are you really telling me that we’re looking at a guy who hasn’t played for 18mths and been dropped for two different teams (who are below Celtic standard) coming back and taking us to the last 16 of ECL? This is poor. On a free, yes bring him back- or even bring him in as a loan and see if his heads in it. If we’re paying the type of money that’s been touted then this is disappointing.

He was cracking for us, but surely there’s another young prodigy out there that we could get for 10m and sell for more than double? This doesn’t fit the recruitment model, the financial model, or the seasons ambition.

{Ed007's Note - That's far too sensible an outlook

23 Jan 2025 23:01:43
I think it might be a case of Celtic or rather Rodgers, wanting Jota in, rather than Kyogo wanting away, because of the Japanese work ethic, Kyogo would always give his all untill his contract was up, but Celtic have made a suggestion to him about moving to Rennes, and that takes the all wrath of the fans off the Celtic board or Rodgers, and onto Kyogo, I think it's madness letting Kyogo, we could be kissing the league goodbye aswell.

24 Jan 2025 00:48:13
Celtic could play with a false number 9 for the remainder of the season and still win the title by double figures ?.

24 Jan 2025 06:28:28
I think the reason we haven’t replaced Scot Brown by a similar type player is that in our manager’s opinion, he doesn’t want to . I think. BR is absolutely delighted with Cal and his approach to a game and hid leadership role . Cal carries out BR on field decisions impeccable and I don’t think Celtic are looking for a Brown replacement.
