When the manager says he wanted to keep Taylor but the player and club are apart in terms of contract who decides what a player is worth? Whilst I'm not a massive fan he has done a job and if the manager says he likes him it seems strange to let him go.

Greg turned 27 in November and is at a good age for a defender.
Potentially the next 3 years could be his best years.
It’s only a guildline but according to Salary Sport -
Greg Taylor gets about £15K a week.
I’m assuming he’s asking for £20K a week which is a reasonable request.
Maybe Greg is asking for more and Celtic are refusing.
Or Celtic could be offering a similar deal to his last contract and Greg is refusing.
It doesn’t seem as if they will be a million miles apart in their negotiations.
It’s also possible that Brendan wants to replace him with KT.

Rogers will decide how he spends the player budget.
He may like Taylor as a squad player on a certain level of salary but won’t go above that as it’s highly probable his game time will reduce.
The same way he likes Ralston however AJ is first choice.
I said it a few times on here, GT was told in March the contract offer and that he was viewed as a squad player.

I could be wrong but i get the feeling Taylor may be getting offered more of a squad player role similar to ralston with someone to come in and go ahead of him. Im just reading between the lines, as you say rodgers seems to want him to stay but it seems Tierney is on his way. Does he see Tierney as 1st choice with taylor as back up?
The more i look into it it seems the tierney move has been in the works since way before the start of the season. Maybe why we just brought in Valle temporarily til tierney became available.
Not my preferance but id say that's a likely scenario.
Also Taylor looking more money is very plausable too.

He's been a great servant, deserves a new deal, for the sake of 5k per week, £780k extra over a 3 year extension, it's surely a no brainer.
I was never a fan of his to begin with but he's proved me wrong, gives his all, get him extended, doesn't mean we shouldn't be looking to improve, every position can always be improved, all the best for 2025 everyone!

Taylor must be away or why would he not have signed by now. word on the street is because KT coming back.

I think GT has been offered a new contract with an understanding he will probably not be the number 1. BR is making it clear he wants a step up in quality in each area.
GT will want to be first choice but realistically that will not be with us.
We do need better but he would be a good enough back up.

KT is better than GT IF fit. A risky 'if'.
Whatever happens, I trust Brendan.

Happy New Year Ed and to all the bhoys and ghirls on the site.
On GT, I've always said he'd be an ideal back up to our starting LB.
Clearly he's been our starter in that position in recent years but I don't believe BR thinks he's the man.
Therefore Celtic, I don't believe, will offer him a first choice/ starting 11 wage when they view him as being a squad player.
If I'm GT, I'd be putting the case forward for everything I've contributed in the past few years as an established first team player, also, he'll looking for some sort of guarantee that he'll be first 11 if he resigns.
This is where I see GT and BR disagreeing.
If GT doesn't mind sitting on the bench and picking up £15K plus a load of bonuses per week, as well as winners medals, then it's an easy call. Another 4 year deal worth the thick end of £1M per year.
However, if he decides to move, as I don't see too many options for him to be honest, were will he get guaranteed first team football on that kind of money - the Championship in England perhaps?
He's just married, would England be ideal for the next 3-4 years for an extra couple of quid?
