There was a time when Celtic was my escape from daily life. Just straight up love of my team. For 90 mins it's all about the football. I may be in the minority but I'm sick to death of pauses during the game. Be it political or sexual or whatever. I have my own beliefs and ideas. However during that 90 mins I get a week. I don't care. It's a working man's hour and a half to just follow his club and get a break from the news.

In fairness gerry we just spend it talking rubbish and waiting for brian spoilers?.

I'm with you on that one Gerry. I don't need the GB or anyone to ram their beliefs down my throat.

Celtic park has always been political from as far back as I can recall.

When I was a wean in the early 80s I can always remember there being IRA songs belting out from the terracing. I also remember telling Maggie thatcher to gtf at the 88 cup final. I also always remember there being support for Palestine.

I am curious why people were not bothered in the past but are now? What changed?

I'm not claiming the moral high ground wee Joe, definitely not, I used to belt out IRA stuff in the 80s. I've changed and I'm also not into this pro Palestine stuff. The GB and those who support that cause don't speak for me. I just want Celtic to be successful.

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me.

Powerful words and highlight the need to speak out when you see injustice in the world. For that reason I support the right for Palestinians to have their own state and not be persecuted.

{Ed007's Note - Thank God some of these supporters weren't about when there were collecting tins for the miners, steelworkers & the interred prisoners in Long Kesh, collecting names for petitions against the Poll Tax etc. eh Joe?
I wonder if they feel the same about charity collections like foodbank drives or the Kano Foundation's work, imo you are either for helping those less fortunate than yourself or you're a horrible c**t, especially when it comes to helping kids.

9IAR, when has any Celtic supporter approached you to "ram their beliefs down your throat" and why does it bother you so much what other people are doing?
Does it bother you that I ram down people's throat about my foodbank collection every year? It's a bit political highlighting poverty & child poverty so I hope I haven't offended you.....
When you were singing "F*ck Maggie Thatcher" there were Celtic fans working to help the people of Palestine, this isn't a new phenomenon at Celtic so you'd expect older fans to know and understand that it isn't solely a GB "thing".
I've put in the NC/GB group chat "Just to let you know lads, you don't speak for 9IAR and Gerry from the CelticRumours forum" - they are absolutely GUTTED to say the least.}

Exactly ed. I am proud that some of my fellow Celtic fans stand up to oppression and help the down trodden. It makes me love the club even more. To me the fans are the what makes our club great.
