Looks like we'll be without ccv and Taylor for Sunday. hopefully both OK for after the international break.
04 Oct 2024 15:48:33
Really hate International Breaks, but it may be an opportunity for rest and recovery on this occasion.
04 Oct 2024 16:01:53
Taylor playing on with an injury was probably the reason for such a poor performance on Tuesday.
04 Oct 2024 17:24:56
Buzz not often I disagree with you however it’s clear to most fans Taylor is nowhere near representing Celtic on the European stage. he is consistently targeted by the opposition in Scotland never mind Europe.
Valle will now be given an opportunity and rightly so in my opinion.
Heart is in my mouth every time he has the ball and we need much better than Taylor if we don’t want scudded every time we meet a quality team.
04 Oct 2024 17:28:48
Taylor Scales CCV AJ aren't good enough for CL football. The millions we have wasted trying to put out a decent back 4 is terrible.
04 Oct 2024 17:58:07
Tough shift for all in defence but Taylor was up against Adeyemi who is absolutely rapid. He done to Taylor what Maeda does to defenders week in week out. He is out his depth in Europe as well as the rest of the defence.
04 Oct 2024 18:35:19
It’s not often that Taylor makes blatant errors.
We now know why he made so many basic errors in only 45 minutes on Tuesday.
04 Oct 2024 18:40:46
Loads have tried and failed to take Taylor’s place over the years.
The same is happening with Scales and I don’t see anyone taking his place any time soon.
I believe both players deserve their place in the Celtic team.
04 Oct 2024 19:19:05
That's a terrifying indictment of how far we have fallen buzz.
04 Oct 2024 19:25:41
You must enjoy hammering in Europe then buzz, because that's what they bring against quality opposition.
04 Oct 2024 19:26:31
Did anybody watch the feckn game you’re singling out Taylor why?
04 Oct 2024 19:41:56
JFP of course I watched the game. he gave the ball away several times and invited Dortmund on to us frequently. he cost us the goal v Slovan and apart from playing SPFL dross is out his depth.
I don’t believe he will be a first team regular much longer. he will either run down his contract or sign a new deal and will be sold.
In my option Taylor hides in the midfield playing the inverted role.
I know for a fact he was told in March that he would not be a regular starter going forward.
04 Oct 2024 19:59:45
Since just last season,
Celtic have paid decent money signing Trusty, Lagerbielke, Nawrocki and we also brought in Phillips from Liverpool but none are as good as Scales.
Taylor has also seen off half a dozen left backs including a player from AC. Milan.
The Barcelona youngster will be a decent back up to Taylor but I don’t see him taking Greg’s place.
It’s not Taylor or Scales fault that Celtic have fallen Dc,
It’s our inability to recruit defenders that are better.
04 Oct 2024 20:28:33
Dud maeda not gift them a goal should we get rid of him. valle looks decent going forward but if you think he'll be better defensively than Taylor I think you may be disappointed. id be having the wee man a new deal whilst looking for better.
04 Oct 2024 20:49:24
That's what I'm saying buzz its terrifying. With the greatest respect to both they should be nowhere near our first team.
04 Oct 2024 22:32:46
Buzz have you written Trusty off after two games? Do you think we spent 6 million to be back up to Scales?
Pretty sure the board would not have signed off on that basis.
That’s the same spend as CCV. He will be in the team eventually with Scales the back up.
{Ed007's Note - What did we spend on Nawrocki & Lagerbielke to replace/challenge the CCV and Scales partnership? Scales has been our best CB this calendar year.
04 Oct 2024 22:37:26
Mally you may be right as we haven’t seen much of Valle. He is unproven at this stage.
One thing for certain is we can’t put Taylor in against the very top teams.
04 Oct 2024 23:07:12
Edd CCV and Scales became the partnership due to injuries at the start of last season. Nawrocki and Lagerbielke were signed to replace Starfelt and were allegedly signed by the club before BR had his feet under the table.
Trusty is a Brendan signing and I believe he will be a first team regular in the fullness of time given that transfer fee.
Time will tell if that money was well spent or not.
Scales does a reasonable job at times in domestic games but not good enough against the top European teams.
{Ed007's Note - Shouldn't it be CCV we need to replace for the CL? At least Scales turns up, CCV when he is fit to play in the CL is honking, along with McGregor and Kyogo, the 3 biggest myths in the Celtic team at European level and who are meant to be our star men but yeah, we'll blame guys that turn up and give 100% in EVERY game eh?
Trusty might very well replace Scales but that's not going to improve us in Europe what so ever, who comes in when CCV is inevitability injured again for the big games, is Trusty going to make CalMac a better CDM?
Let's start blaming the big names that let us down and go missing in Europe, starting with our captain and the manager. That performance was abysmal and to target Taylor & Scales - the usual suspects - is ridiculous, what did our Belgian wonder kid do, AJ was lost, did Kyogo touch the ball, even Schmeichel was stinking out the joint.
On the performance against Dortmund there wasn't a single player worthy of wearing that jersey, our captain talks the talk but when the chips are down - as we seen last season from him too - he can't step up and drag the team up or show any leadership on the pitch.
McGregor as a lone CDM is the weak link in our Euro performances, he can strut about the SPFL but at a higher level he is simply incapable of defending and protecting the defence, until Rodger tweaks that tactically we'll just need to "hope" CalMac retires if we are serious about being better in Europe.
I've been saying this since Scott Brown left, we either needed to sign a CDM to keep playing 4-2--3-1 or sign a CDM and move CalMac up the pitch, McGregor is a fantastic footballer but he has never fulfilled his potential as the player he should be by playing his current role against top opposition in Europe or with Scotland.
There isn't a player at Celtic we couldn't buy better to improve, but every time we get beat it's the same 2 players that get blamed while our "star" players get a pass for letting us down by their performances - if they're even fit in CCV's case.

Good article on the Celtic blog on this very topic.

Edd some valid points as even Real Madrid can improve hence the signing of Mbappe. In my opinion you start to improve the team by dealing with the glaringly obvious positions which for many are Taylor and Scales. For the record I was not blaming them solely for Tuesdays defeat though as to a man we were very poor and lost SEVEN goals.
{Ed007's Note - The biggest problem the other night was the manager's tactics and approach to the game, as for who needs replaced and the glaringly obvious one at CL level is McGregor, both Scales and Taylor are better and more reliable in their positions in Europe than McGregor is.}

Hi Edd my reply never got posted. have i done something wrong?
{Ed007's Note - No mate, not at all ??

? good to have the debate. We will all have different views however we can all unite in the passion for our great club.

I have sympathy for McGregor because his managers keep sending him out to do a job he simply isn't capable of doing against the top teams. I said on here before it was a lazy attempt to copy the Scott Brown blueprint. In fairness to Rodgers, he was after Diawara from Lyon who might have given us more of a physical presence in midfield.
